Do you have any named versions? Have you done a full compress (all users off - reconcile named versions then delete them - compress - state ID down to 0)?

Yes, you should see an 'Enabled' field that can be set to True or False.

Makes sense, what about the data models, will they be updated to work under utility network?

When utility network comes out will the ESR water models and production editing toolbar be updated to work with it right away? Were putting together RFP responses and need to know this.

Way to go ESRI, 2 weeks and haven't answered this guys question on version support??? Maybe trying contacting your regional sales office/rep, MAYBE they'll know, but I'd even be suspicious of that.

Maybe I'm not understanding the problem, but can't you use annotation with leaders and customize as needed?

We have been using ArcFM for 16 years, model is still relevant today. Very detailed asset driven model.

Just wondering if anyone is aware of good user cases or examples of GIS usage specifically in substations. We have a client that is anticipating a lot of work upgrading their stations over the next few years and we want to use the opportunity to move their corporate GIS deeper into their work processes. We already have a sophisticated GIS, data repository, ArcFM model, geometric network, suite of custom tools, etc. The stations are currently all captured, albeit a bit more schematic than outside the stations.

We use an ArcFM electric distribution model implemented in the ArcGIS environment running SQL server and have been since 2000 (ArcGIS 8.0). I can't speak to the ArcFM tools or software but the model we have is very detailed and extremely valuable, it is very much an asset driven database model and the questions/answers that field crews all the way up to managing engineers can get out of it is impressive. We have in house developers so we've done a lot of custom stuff in terms of tools, we have the geometric network enabled for phased based tracing to aid in planned/unplanned outages. For desktop usage I find ArcGIS very capable of doing a lot of deep analysis, there's things I wish it did better but all in all were able to crank out an impressive level of information, especially when compared with before the GIS implementation. It takes the right kind of GIS person to run and maintain it as it can be overwhelming in detail and is far from a simple "point on a map" sort of GIS. Probably the only thing we fight with is level of detail, how much detail should we strive for and when should we be getting schematic or just link to other documents line engineering plans.

We have a single Mr. Sid file with a file size of 1.6 gigs, covers roughly 28kmX12km. Created a map service of this image and runs great, we will need to serve out to +- 50 active connections and I'm wondering if there is any advantage in caching or not. Imagery is static and will not change. We have very good server hardware, all our previous testing showing the need to cache was done on TIFF's totaling 20 or 30 gigs, this is our first time using a SID file instead. Thanks.

I get this occasionally as well, hung connection or something. Whenever it's convenient, get rid of all user connections to the DB, close all your sessions and launch a new one, then see if it will reconcile and post. If not, try rebooting the DB and then reconcile/post.

I'll look into those suggestions, thanks! I also value real world examples to help spark some ideas in my own world, so I plan on looking at peoples spreadsheets, thanks to all that provided them.

We have a client that is in the process of swapping out all streetlights for LED, they interested in seeing the various light distribution patterns as actual spatial data. So, a dozen or so types of LED heads each emit different shaped cones of light (only one being generally round), we could likely generalize into 4-5 different shapes, but they want to see these shapes graphically with relatively accurate linear distance and proper orientation to the road. Since millions of these lights get installed every year I'm wondering if anything in ArcGIS could accomplish this or if anyone knows of any tools that could be used on many thousands of lights. Looking for out of the box suggestions, I know we could develop internally but client likely won't want to pay the cost to develop from scratch.
