GPS and display screen are major power hunger sources. If you turn on My Location tool all the time, it can drain your battery quickly. If you don't need to look at the screen, you can turn the screen off as well. As a side note, GPS streaming feature collection should still be able to run while the screen is locked. If there are too many feature to display in this area of the map, you will see this behavior. It tries to make sure the display performance. Here are some options what you can do besides zooming in: 1) Set visibility range for the layers and hide some feature layers if you don't need them on some scale 2) Change maximum record count following the instruction at 44060 - Update the maximum record count for feature services in ArcGIS Online 3) Take the map offline instead of online. In ArcGIS Online, check popup configuration and you should be able to get rid of ${SHAPE.AREA} there. You can get some help from Create and share a map for data collection—Collector for ArcGIS | ArcGIS . Regarding 'No valid area', once you have collected valid polygon in collector, the message will be gone. It gives you a hint that you haven't collected a valid polygon yet.   ... View more

I tested basic geometry network long time before in hosted feature service in ArcGIS Online and feature service in ArcGIS Server. Host feature service in ArcGIS Online doesn’t work. If feature service is in ArcGIS Server, iOS Collector will treat it as simple line.
