Do you have ArcMap 10.1? If so, you can sign in using your ArcGIS Online account and then create a service directly from your MXD by going to File > Share As > Service. This will preserve your symbology, labeling, etc, as well as allow you to create hosted map services, along with hosted feature services. You can't create a hosted service out of map or layer packages.

You may have to add a portal connection to your ArcGIS Online organization: 1) Close ArcMap and ArcCatalog and go to Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator. 2) In the ArcGIS Administrator window, go to Advanced > Manage Portal Connections. 3) Here, click Add and add your connection, (it should be http://myorg.maps.arcgis.com/) 4) Once added, click on the new connection and click the Connect button. Close the dialog windows and reopen ArcMap to see if the connection exists when publishing.

This is currently a bug: [#NIM085622 Importing shapefiles into a web map and updating the renderer crashes the application.] Uploading a shapefile into a webmap and changing the symbology will crash the webmap in the ArcGIS for iOS application.

The process actually starts in Windows Explorer. Right click on the .zip file and unzip it using WinZip or similar program. The files inside will be a shapefile or file geodatabase that contains feature classes. Use ArcMap or ArcCatalog to interact with the unzipped data.

I'm not sure what you mean by modeling, but you can use the following links to go through your project. This link will provide information on adding content to your webmap, either by a hosted feature service, service from ArcGIS Server, or file based data. Note that if you're using a personal account or an organizational account and adding a shapefile directly to a webmap, you'll be limited to 1000 features per each upload. Take a look at this forum post for more information on that. Next, you can enable popups for your layers in your map by following information in this link.

You should be able to use only the Iterate Feature Class iterator then the Enable Editor Tracking tool, and that's it. In the Editor Tracking Tool, enter the field names that you want created, and check the option to create fields if none exist. You don't have to use Add Field before, and then use the tool to set those fields as the editor fields. You can have the tool create the fields for you during the iteration. Anyway, I'm glad it (kind of) worked out.

The first problem with this is when I enter the version 10.1 dataset it causes an error saying the dataset is from an earlier version that doesn't support editor tracking. I can reproduce this part of your post. If you're under maintenance, I'd suggest you get in touch with the Desktop team to see if it should be logged as a bug. In the meantime, what you can do is use the Iterate Feature Classes iterator in ModelBuilder to iterate through each feature class within your dataset, and then use the Enable Editor Tracking tool on each feature class in the iteration.

Add the service directly from the REST endpoint using Add > Add from the web and check the option to use as a basemap: Terrain basemap: http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Terrain_Base/MapServer Most of the basemaps in the Basemap drop down have the actual basemap, as well as a reference layer, (the labels), on top of it. Use this site to find the actual basemaps to add to a webmap as a basemap.

You're trying to query from a certain feature in the map service? Hosted tiled map services don't support queries; you can only query in hosted feature services.

You'll want to use the Calculate Geometry function first, which will allow you to calculate the acreage of polygon features within a feature class. You can then right click on the field you just calculated values for go to the Statistics to find the sum of the values within the acreage field. Let me know if that works out or if you were looking for another approach.

Can you explain which route editing functions you would want to perform in your model? Perhaps, using the right geoprocessing tools, you won't need to use them at all?

If all haul roads should start with an m-value of 0 and end at whatever the distance is of the route and you have individual features for each haul road within the attribute table, it seems like you can add a From_Field and To_Field, calculate a 0 for the From_Field and the length of the line for the To_Field, (you can use the Calculate Geometry function), and then create new routes using the Two_Field method. This will autopopulate all of your routes with the m-values with respect to the digitized direction of the roads. You can use this method for new routes only and possibly merge them with the old routes.
