Hm, I'd double check the network traffic in the dev tools or Fiddler. There's likely a network requests that isn't coming back with the expected response and the map viewer is catching that, but isn't able to parse/return the error within the response.

I don't work too closely with collaboration, but I do focus on the DR tool. The collaboration settings are stored in the backup, so the collaboration will continue to work and layers continue to sync. If you have a service at T1 and take a backup, then make some edits to it's at T2, those edits should also sync to Online. If you restore the backup, you're back at T1 and Online should be updated to reflect the data at T1 again. Yes, I would expect items that are not present in the host environment after restoring will be deleted from the guest.

Can you upload a screenshot of the console when the tool runs? You can scrub the hostnames if necessary. The error doesn't imply there's an issue with tokens, but rather file permissions. What user are you running the DR tool with?

Since your deployment is a single node, (Portal, Server, and Data Store on the same machine) and not distributed, you should be able to use a local path for the SHARED_LOCATION. Did you use different users to install each component, or the same user?

Only the portal content and I think map cache can exist within BLOB storage. You can use something like Azure Storage Explorer to access your containers, but I don't think they'll give you the total size of all items; you'd need to write some script to collect that information: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/scripts/storage-blobs-container-calculate-size-powershell

You can also look into storing the content in Azure BLOB containers, which gives you redundancy out of the box. It'll be slower than what you get out of the local file system, but perhaps comparable or even faster than what you see in a shared location, depending on your storage tier.

I assume it was the ArcGIS Data Store that went into read-only vs the portal database, because there is no provision for the portal database to go into read-only automatically. There is a concept of read-only for Enterprise, but this is admin-initiated. The ArcGIS Data Store will go into read-only when disk space is running out, which I assume is what you saw: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/data-store/10.5/install/linux/troubleshoot.htm#anchor12 There's a utility for setting the Data Store to read-write so you don't need to roll back to a backup, but monitoring disk space, (as well as other parts of the software) should certainly be something you should look into.

When you install a patch, the patch installation shuts down the component you're installing the patch for anyway. If you shut down the service yourself, the installation will start it after. There's no way to prevent downtime for a non-HA deployment when installing patches.

Are you familiar with the WebGIS DR tool? The tool, included with the install of Portal, is designed to help you maintain a "warm standby" by replicating content to a separate deployment in a different region on a scheduled interval. If there are issues with your primary environment, you can flip over to standby. https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/overview-disaster-recovery-replication.htm

You can try to run ProcMon to see what folders/files the ArcGIS Data Store is accessing during the restore. It may tell you which directory path it can't reach. You can also reach out to Support and ask them to log a bug that the error should be more descriptive to provide more information to an administrator about what is failing.

This is not resolved at 10.8.1, you can contact Support and they will have a workaround for you to implement.

No, you'll need to run the DR tool or delete the files manually (except for the latest one). We are working on a better story behind those transaction logs.

I'm a bit doubtful that the problem is as simple as stopping and starting the standby. We go through a considerable amount of regression testing and this problem has not been discovered internally. The fact that you had many db folders means that the standby is unable to rejoin; that behavior is not described in the bug. Anyway, we'll need to have a close look at that issue.

You'll need to check why the java.exe process is not starting. You can look at the logs under <install directory>\framework\runtime\ds\usr. They may tell you why it won't start.
