Do you any examples of loading a layer from an ArcGIS map service by using the HERE API? Today we have maps using the HERE API to show the position of service technicians, jobs and driving routes. We also have customers using map services in ArcGIS for managing water utility systems, oil pipelines, power grids and railways etc. In this case, it would be very useful for our customers to load those layers from ArcGIS map services into the HERE map, together with service technicians, jobs and driving routes. Anyone that have tried that?

Shakil, Did you manage to solve it? Do you have the same problem in the Edge browser? If you are in the Chrome browser, try with "Empty Cache and Hard Reload". (Ctrl + Shift + I will open the devloper mode. Right-click on the refresh icon in upper left corner and select the option "Empty Cache and Hard Reload".

The Workforce app works fine. It automatically reports the last know location. It creates a feature service with a layer that I can use. Here is a screenshot where I show the feature layer in IFS. I changed the symbol to use a picture.

Jeff, Thanks for sharing! I'm in a learning process trying to understand possibilities and limitations. So far I've only tried with the Collector App. It it works! But, It only reports the location when the user decide to sync. Else, the location will not be reported. It reports all locations, not only the last known location. I will try to figure out a way to filter to show only the last known locations. I know that it's possible do that in the Web App on ArcGIS online or Portal, but I want that filter to also have effect on the map service. Or if, I can figure out a way to filter the layer when loaded in IFS. Anyway, the Collector App works and it proves that GeoEvent server might not always be needed, at least not for simple location tracking. Later on, I will also have a look at Workforce for ArcGIS //Johan

Ok, so it also requires the customer to also install the ArcGIS GeoEvent server and then configure it to feed positions to the map service. There is no other solution. GeoEvent server must be used. I was hoping for a somewhat easier setup, like installing an App on the smartphone and configure it to start feeding GPS positions, to a web service on ArcGIS online or portal. Anyway, thanks for the detailed answer and useful links.

If I install by using the default arcgis user, it will not work on Windows Server 2012 but works fine on Windows Server 2012 R2? Or do I misunderstand? Is this described in ArcGIS server documentation? So, before installation of arcgis server 10.4.1 and 10.6.1 on Windows Server 2012, we should create a domain user and install by using that user. We should not let the ArcGIS installation to create a new local user during the installation when we install ArcGIS server on Windows Server 2012. On Windows Server 2012 R2 it works fine to let the ArcGIS installation to create a new local user.

We have an advanced web application in an ERP system called IFS Applications, where we can load map and feature services from ArcGIS. This enables the user to see work orders, assets and a lot more. Once linked to business objects, this is really powerful. However, our customers often asks about live monitoring by using GPS in a mobile device (Android smart phone and Iphone). For example, in the same way as my family can monitor each others position by using Google Maps. Example: An asset (pump, valve etc.) is broken and back office want to see the location of companies engineers by using those persons smart phones and Iphones. So, we need a map service with a layer showing live position of each mobile device. Is there any easy out-of-the box solution for this?

Hi Kym, No, not really. I tested with both ArcGIS 10.4.1 and 10.6.1 and both gave me problems on a Windows Server 2012. Then, I installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 and it worked fine. Not sure if the problem might have been caused by any settings in the virus program (Symantec). Both servers was installed with Symantec and on Windows Server 2012 R2 it worked fine, but not on Windows Server 2012. So, I'm not sure what the problem was. I also describe it here: https://community.esri.com/message/796933-re-connector-for-6443-not-added-in-tomcat-after-installation-of-arcgis-server?…

Yes, we have Symantec on these machines and that might have been the problem and why the ArcGIS server installations failed. We tested with both ArcGIS Server 10.4.1 and 10.6.1. Uninstalled in the same way as you describe. All installations failed on this machine. However, we managed to successfully install ArcGIS Server on Windows Server 2012 R2, so we were thinking that the problem was caused by windows. I forgot to check antivirus. That was probably the root cause and why it failed. To be sure we have to install again, but no such plans at the moment. If I run into the same problem in the future, then I will definitely check antivirus software. Thanks! //Johan

I'm installing ArcGIS server on a Windows Server 2012: Download ArcGIS Server 10.4.1 from www.MyEsri. Start the installation and enter the MS Window's admin user as the user to run the ArcGIS service. (I select the Windows admin user to make sure that there is no missing file read & write permission issues. I have also tested the installation with entering arcgis as user, but it also fails as described below.) Authorize as ArcGIS as a Server Standard Workgroup 10.4.1. Next, is to create the site, but before doing that... ....open a command window in Windows and enter netstat -a Notice that the port 6080 is open. Notice that the port 6443 is not open. Open the file C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\framework\runtime\tomcat\conf\server.xml in a text editor. Scroll down and notice that there is no connector for the port 6443. Try to create a site and notice that it fails (shows an error) indicating that the port 6443 is not open. I also tested the same with a Windows Server 2012 R2, and it worked fine: Port 6443 is open after installation of ArcGIS server. Connector is added in file C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Server\framework\runtime\tomcat\conf\server.xml It's possible to create a site without any error. Any idea why ArcGIS installation 10.4.1 fails to open port 6443 on a Windows 2012 server, as described above?

Did you manage to solve this? I get the same error when trying to create an ArcGIS site with 10.6.1 on a Windows Server 2012. I change the firewall to accept the following programs: <ArcGIS Server installation location>\bin\ArcSOC.exe <ArcGIS Server installation location>\framework\etc\service\bin\ArcGISServer.exe <ArcGIS Server installation location>\framework\runtime\jre\bin\javaw.exe <ArcGIS Server installation location>\framework\runtime\jre\bin\rmid.exe Also added ports in the firewall: 1098, 4000-4004, 6006, 6080, 6099, and 6443. Added arcgis user to the Administrator group. I previously installed ArcGIS server 10.6 on a Windows Server 2012 and could create a site without any problem. About above suggestions, to test connection to the REST service. Why testing that when the site isn't created yet? This problem is not about connection to the REST service. It's about creating an initial ArcGIS site and where it fails for us.

I know how to duplicate a layer in ArcMap and then republish to a feature service and it will create two layers with different layer IDs. But can I do the same on ArcGIS online without using ArcMap?

Hi Miguel, I didn't raise this as a bug. I don't think the possibility to show labels is implemented on feature services. It's only implemented on map services. My guess is that it's a known limitation and not really considered a bug. So, our customers will simply have to use map services to show labels in our GIS Map application. But I hope that it will be enabled on fetaure services too ....in any future release of ArcGIS. I think I tested it on both ArcGIS 10.3 and 10.1. //Johan

The problem is solved now and the above scenario works fine! For some strange reason the database registration for my ArcGIS server wasn't working anymore. It was nicely shown in ArcGIS Server Properties dialog and clicking on the validation button, showed that it was working ok. But that was wrong, I noticed a warning during the publishing process, saying the data will be copied and that isn't what I want. So, I removed my Registred Database in ArcGIS Server Properties dialog and added the exact same back again ...and after that it works fine. I upgraded from ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 to 10.3 a week ago and maybe that is what's causing my 'database regitration issue'. Anyway, it works fine! Regards, Johan
