This is my current distributed collaboration setup: AGOL - Host, uses standard logins Enterprise Portal 10.6.1 - Guest, uses IWA Did not set up web-tier authentication created groups during the collaboration process The guest Portal is set up to only receive data from the AGOL host. The workspace is set up to copy data. So I have a survey created in Survey123 that feeds a hosted feature layer in AGOL. I ensured that sync was enabled on that hosted feature layer. I shared said hosted feature layer with the workspace group. The first sync takes place and the hosted feature layer is copied over to the guest Portal like a dream. I can fully access and interact with the layer. The layer is still set to allow sync. Everything is wonderful, then I run a test. On the guest Portal side, I add the copied layer to a web map and enable the refresh interval. I then go back to my host AGOL environment and fill out another survey to add a record. The hosted feature layer on the AGOL side is immediately updated without issue. I then go back into the guest Portal side, and schedule the sync for the workspaces to occur within the next two mins or so. I am simply testing to see if the feature layer updates properly at sync... It does not. I get the following screen message: Clicking it reveals... And to top it all off I get a notification on my AGOL site that "The hosted feature layer could not be sent as a copy, so it was sent as a reference instead." Now, my nice original hosted feature layer copy seems to have lost some of its functionality and has not updated. It is my understanding from everything I could find and read that when performing a collaboration between AGOL and Enterprise 10.6.1 that hosted feature layers can be copied. Can anybody tell me why this could be occurring?

So we ended up using tables. To have the data up to date, we run a process every morning that truncates the table and then repopulates the data. We have found that the speed is greatly increased. Thanks for all of your responses.

Thanks Tanu, will do. It may take us a while to run that (due to permissions within our Organization and its Friday), but I will update the result of that here when it gets done. That being said, is this process the best practice for a live updating web layer? Is there a better way to be doing this? Thanks.

Tanu, Thanks for responding! The draw times for the map image layer and the resulting feature service layer are identical. Furthermore, the map image layer is not truly supported in Operations Dashboard. The draw time in ArcGIS Pro is fairly comparable to the draw times in Portal. And finally, the time it takes to execute the view in MS SQL Server; the longest view (177k records) takes 26 seconds. While the others normally are between instant and 3 seconds or so. My dashboards almost exclusively use the web layers generated from the 0-3 second views.

Good day! So here is the deal. I have several map services and feature services on my organizations Portal for ArcGIS that update live, roughly every couple of seconds or so. However, they respond fairly slowly and I want to ensure that I am following best practices. The breakdown: The data comes from MS SQL Server 2012. I bring the data into ArcGIS Pro in the form of views. Sometimes these views can reference several tables from different databases. These databases are being continuously updated. The databases are registered with the server. Each view is geo-enabled. As a result, each record shows up as a point on the map much like a feature class. I bring the view into ArcGIS Pro, format and symbolize it how I wish, and then publish it as a map service onto my server and Enterprise Portal. I then reference the REST endpoint of the map service, https://servername.stpete.org/arcgis/rest/services/mapservice_name/MapServer/0 to bring it into my enterprise portal as a feature service. The result is a web layer derived from a SQL View that live updates. Is this the best way to create a live updating layer from MS SQL Server? It functions and can be brought into Operations Dashboard and other Web Apps and has full functionality, however, it responds very slowly. It can sometimes take 30-45 seconds to load a web layer that only has 30-ish records. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

So I have an Operations Dashboard with a web map that is using the World Street Map (Night) as the basemap. The service layer credits on the bottom right update dynamically depending on the extent of the map. That being said, when I look at the default extent of my map, which is in St. Petersburg, FL. The first line of the credit states "City of Tampa": This has riled some within my organization. How can I either: 1: Ensure that "County of Pinellas" comes first, or 2: Remove this altogether. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Good day! I am working on a workbook in Insights for ArcGIS and have been running into an issue with a map that I created with a filter applied suddenly breaking. The workflow and issue is as follows: I add a hosted feature layer (polygon, 40 features) from my organization. I also added an .xlsx file from my local machine. I create a relationship between the two items. (All join) Using two fields from the newly created table, I create a map that shows sum of personnel assignment by zone. In layer options, I change the symbol type from Counts and Amounts (Size) to Counts and Amounts (Color). I leave the default Natural Breaks and 5 classes. I also change the color scheme. I then apply a filter using a field from the new joined table. The field is "SHIFT" with four options: "Select all", "Days", "Evenings", and "Midnights" I choose one. (Issue occurs for all) The map now successfully displays personnel assignment per zone on a given shift. I start to work on something else in the workbook OR I save it and exit. I return and suddenly there are no features on the map, just a small caution mark in the bottom left corner stating that "We couldn't display all features" Rage. If I click the layer options button on the top right, the entire card breaks and gives me the "Something went Wrong." screen. If I reapply the filter, the card continues to work until it suddenly decides to not. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks! Kevin

Kory Kramer, yes that is exactly right. Also yes, I just threw ArcMap in there to cover the whole spectrum. I mostly use Pro myself.

Fantastic, so its a matter of just needing to know what to search for. That being said, your solution so far only covers the "Transportation" category, what should I search for to get the other styles: If all these just came standard with ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap, it would make things much smoother. In the meantime, if you know what .stylx file cover the "Safety Health" category, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

So I figured that if there was some consistency between the symbology you find across all the Esri platforms, it would would help streamline some processes and shouldn't be too difficult to pull off. For example, one of the Crime Analysts where I work was trying to perform some analysis in ArcGIS Pro instead of Portal due to some issues in Portal. However, when it came time to create and share her map, the symbology she used for a certain feature; only exists on Portal for ArcGIS or AGOL (minus a convoluted workaround). I searched for the AGOL symbology to import into Pro to no avail. Let make a style file (stylx) of these!

Hey everyone who may or already have viewed this. Referencing some material I found from Esri, I wrote a working script that loops through a directory that contains the project folders for the projects containing the layers you want to overwrite. Mouthful right? Here are the considerations to make this script work: I made a separate folder where I placed my projects. For this script, it's the entire folder (within which is the .aprx file) Each .aprx file must have only a single layer. This is the layer that will be overwritten. The name of the map in the .aprx is designed to be the name of the hosted feature layer as you want it published. The script will tease out any spaces or special characters. Try not to leave it as "Map" unless you want your feature layer to be named as such. I haven't tested this script with publishing brand new feature layers. It is currently designed to only find the associated hosted feature layer on your portal and overwrite it. Attached is the script. If you have any questions let me know and I will do my best to answer quickly! Cheers.

Disregard, I realized that due to the nature that my project file and .aprx had the same name that I was omitting the project folder...Thanks though!

Dan, might you know why one would get this same exact error, but I am actually referencing the *aprx file?

I have a hosted feature layer that is based off of a SQL view that has been published to my Enterprise Portal (10.6.1). The SQL view is constantly updating. I am looking to write a script that can automate taking this SQL Query Layer from ArcGIS Pro (2.2.1) and overwrite the published feature layer every x minutes, essentially updating it. I am new to trying to write scripts using the ArcGIS API for Python so I am hitting some snags. Thanks!

I have a query feature layer that I applied some custom symbology to in ArcGIS Pro (2.2.1) and when I publish it to my Portal for ArcGIS (10.6.1) the layer retains its symbology, but it takes on this hazed, sort of blurry appearance. Its minor, but its a pain when I have followed this same workflow for several months now with no issues. Clear, on ArcGIS Pro: Fuzzy after publishing: Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Kevin
