Katrina, can you confirm if you edited the story outside the cascade builder? If there is a bug that allows invalid characters to be added, we want to make sure we fix that in an update. All stories save their content in a JSON formatted text file on ArcGIS Online. The AGO assistant allows you the edit the underlying text file before it is parsed so we can hopefully fix the issue. Steps to fix your story: 1. Log in to ArcGIS Online Assistant with your ArcGIS Online account. 2. Click the option to "View an Item's JSON" 3. Select the Casade Story from the side panel: 4. Scroll down to the "Data" section, click the copy button and paste it into notepad or another text editor to create a backup of your original story. 5. Finally, click the "Edit" button and replace your configuration with the corrected one below. If you're using Chrome, you can right-click and choose "Paste and Match Style" to clear the formatting. Otherwise, paste this code into a text editor first and then copy it from the text editor and paste it in AGO Assistant to replace the current configuration (clears the extra html formatting). Click the save button then open your cascade story to see if it is fixed. {

No, in the beta version, the Crowdsource story map does not read the refresh interval at this time. It has a custom implantation of the feature service layer so we can symbolize it with clusters. Currently, it will only update when you pan/zoom the map, add a new point, or review (approve/reject) a point in builder. We'll add this to our list of requested enhancements for a future update.

It looks the feature service settings have been changed and adding new points is now longer allowed. Administrators are always allowed to edit a feature service even if these permissions have been turn off. The easiest way to fix this is to open the feature service item page on ArcGIS Online and click on the Settings tab. Then make sure " Only add new features" is selected under What kind of editing is allowed? As a reference, this is what the default feature service settings are set to when created through the Story Map Crowdsource builder:

There is no barrier to adding the code to make the links work on the in the main stage rather than a separate side panel. Instead of adding a custom map, I would recommend just adding the map as you normally would through the builder. Then download the code and use the included event to access the underlying map object and load events: GitHub - Esri/storymap-journal: The Story Map Journal is ideal when you want to combine narrative text with maps and oth…. I would also recommend providing additional context to the user before navigating to a different section. So instead of immediately navigating to a new section when you click on a point, first show the popup with the title name and maybe a short description. Then append a button which says something like "Click to learn more" that then navigates to that section. We incorporated a similar overview map with clickable points that immediately navigated points in the first main stage of a prototype map journal and many users were confused by the behavior.

All of our story maps incorporate responsive design so they are viewable on a smartphones, tablets, and tablets. To view a story on your smartphone, just open the story's url in your smartphone's web browser. Because our apps our responsive, you can just use the same URL for every device and the story will adjust automatically to show the best view for that specific device.

The map journal template will allow you to link to different sections from the text in the side panel but does not have the capability to do so from popups in the map. Here's a blog post with instructions: Adding links to sections in Story Map Journal | ArcGIS Blog. If you do have a developer, our apps are open source so you can download and extend the map journal template to add this feature. We done something similar in the past and wrote a blog post about it. In our case, we've added a second map that is always available to viewers so they can quickly navigate to different sections based on map feature.

I do not know if ArcGIS Online supports large feature attachments; I've asked that team to verify. It may only be possible through the REST api or specialized apps. The Story Map crowdsource app should have all the standard limits in place. There are a variety of technical reasons you cannot upload large attachments in a single request as you are attempting. Large requests have a high probability of being interrupted and failing. It also takes significantly longer to upload large attachments as a single request rather than multiple parallel requests. For this reason, you should look at the documentation links I provided above concerning multipart uploads. Because I'm not as familiar with multipart uploads on feature service, I would recommend asking followup questions to the feature service team. At this point you are working directly with the REST API and possibly third party file upload libraries which are outside of the scope of this story map.

We have not added this ability in the beta version of the Crowdsource app so unfortunately you will not be able to do this with the hosted version of the code. If you have a JavaScript developer who is familiar with React and a server to host a customized version of the app, you can download the code and make the necessary changes. First, you will need to modify how the contribute form checks if it is valid: storymap-crowdsource/CrowdsourceForm.babel.js at master · Esri/storymap-crowdsource · GitHub . Also, you will need to determine what to do if no photo is provided. If the square in the gallery remains blanks, viewers may think your app is broken. You should consider uses a fallback image or handle it in a different way.

I contacted our Feature Service team and if you want to add attachments that are larger than 10mb, you need to use the upload API and use multipart uploads: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgis-rest-api/#/Uploads/02r3000000zn000000/, then add the attachment via the upload ID: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgis-rest-api/#/Add_Attachment/02r3000000wt000000/.
