Is there a way to script or .bat something that will kill locks on a database prior to geoprocessing? I couldn't get sdemon to work from another computer using both the instance sysadmin user or the dbo, and I don't anticipate installing sde tools on our 10.2 infrastructure to begin with. We are running 2-tiered architecture using only direct connects, dbo schema on arcgis 10.2.1, sql server 2008 R2. thanks, sp

I'm looking to utilize an AGO template to discover whether and address is in our out of a particular zone. I ❤️ information lookup, however it doesn't work for me if there are stacked polygons at that address. Recall that in the typical AGO identify, or click method on the map, the popup tells you the results are for (1 of 3) for instance where multiple features are stacked. The resulting popup for information lookup does not see the 3 polygons. I have tried other templates where you input an address, you zoom you to that location, but then the user has to click on the guesstimated point of their address to see the attributes of the zone(s) they're in. But I prefer the instant popup responsiveness of the information lookup template. 1) Is information lookup customizable to adjust the popup to report stacked polygons (1 of 3) as a hosted app? 2) is there an easy adjustment to make to the template if I were to download and host locally? 3) is there another template that would accomplish both? In nearly all templates or web apps zoom you into your search criteria, but this is the only one that instantly responds with a popup of results. thanks! sp

That was very useful, Adam! enjoyed seeing how the application templates are being applied across the country to disseminate local gov't data and the various ways we are all trying to communicate the same thing. And great example of a map journal!

Thank you; that's very helpful points of clarification and also for the github link! Is it correct to say that if I edit the map tour while in builder mode, that will not update the layer in the web map? Or will it? I am trying to determine best practice for a building a story map where the XY locations are marking a polygon and these points may be adjusted within that area based on admin preference. I am using the hosted template.

So creating a story map from a CSV file also creates a web map. I then go to the web map and add another data layer, change the basemap, etc. I make changes to the story map in builder mode to adjust a point location. Then go back to the web map to adjust the transparency of a polygon layer and save the web map. Given that there is a map tour layer of my points from the original CSV file in my web map in their original XY locations, when I save the web map will it overwrite the point adjustments that I made while editing the story map directly? Help me understand the relationship between the map tour layer in the web map and the geometry within the story map builder mode. thanks! -sp

Received this error when trying to load data from one FC in a source database to the Local govt information model: Underlying DBMS error [[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]The INSERT statement conflicted with the CHECK constraint "g65_ck". The conflict occurred in database "lenexaGIS", table "dbo.LOCALDISTRICT", column 'SHAPE'. I received this error first trying to use the Data Interop tool to load the data, turned to the ArcCatalog Load option during troubleshooting. SOLUTION: I ran both an Analyze and Recalculated the spatial index and the load ended up working. I'm leaning more towards the spatial index solution since 1) the error called out the SHAPE field and the name of the spatil index is S65_idx (reference to the g65_ck in the error) which explains why googling "g65_ck" didn't work. -sp

Lindsay - Perhaps we're looking for a solution beyond "land use" notification. We are also trying to use the app to enable non-GIS users to notify citizens when their street is being paved. Being able to trace a street segment and buffer that line is functionality that I am looking for. Or perhaps notify a subdivision of a special hearing or communicate home owners association info from the Police, which would be something that I'd like to draw an irregular shape for. One final instance is to notify a specified area about a road closure for an upcoming 5k or festival, this being a function of buffering a linear feature or drawing a polygon to select those citizens. Can you edit the order of tags, or place a tag at the front of the list of existing tags? I just had to delete all these tags in order to place the appropriate tag on the app as the first tag in the list in order for it to appear in the maps and apps template gallery correctly! Also, go to Start, Programs, ArcGIS, ArcGIS 10.1 for Server, run Configure ArcGIS Server Account. Don't laugh, like the old Post Installs this little wizard can solve a lot of problems, because it re-writes permissions. This worked for me on my 10.2.1 upgrade. thanks much! -sp former-esri

I am trying to attach CAO data to point locations, basically attaching key us facts, tapestry, etc into the point table for analysis. Seems as though I can't do much with the points at all either in desktop using the plug in or in the online app. All roads lead to creating drive time or ring analysis. I want to interject community profile data onto that location. Is this a possibility, or am I looking at the wrong tool? thanks! -sp former esri

Thank you Jason. I did end up accomplishing this with a good deal of trial and error. I was very pleased with the results, so hopefully this functionality will be considered!

Is there a way to generate rings to go out around a series of points, though the size of the ring is based on the population within that ring, so the ring would stop at or about 100,000 people? -sp former-esri
