I didn't reproduce your problem. But I could not figure out my own problem yet : when my feature or graphics layers with Symbols (or renders) which are SimpleFillSymbol, SimplePolyllineSymbol, SimpleMakerSymbol, without controltemplate, storyboard, visual states are OK , otherwise, fails. Even a FillSymbol without controltemplate inside, it fails, but change the type to SimpleFillSymbol, works. I wonder if you have this issue or not .

I don't know if this could help you or not, in one of my application, there was a datagrid with paging, I bound graphicsLayer to the datagrid, and printed the datagrid, so I used a RowIndexConverter . I attach some sample code here, you can find a lot similar info from the internet.

Did you follow Art's suggestion, make a little change on host file: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts set : 127.0.0.1 localhost servername

I just set up ArcGIS server 10.1 and ArcSDE 10.1 on my test machine, my experiences : 1. Finally, I need to configure all my service and sites to match my current existing server which have ArcGIS server 10 and many applications, so I installed Web Adaptor, I had problem, but solved by changing the host file: ( C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts , set 127.0.0.1 servername) I also had problem with webadaptor, but after I completely uninstalled IIS, then reinstalled, it worked. 2. the test machine which had ArcGIS server 10 installed before, so I unstalled ArcGIS server 10 and removed all compononets, since SOC, SOM are not needed any more in 10.1, so I deleted SOM, SOC and ArcGISWebServices accounts. 3. I am trying to figure out too. 4. After installed ArcGIS desktop and ArcGIS server 10.1, without installing ArcSDE 10.1, I created a SDE database using the tool from ArcCatolog, it worked well, no SDE service created by this process. From, ArcCatolog, it seems you can only use direction connection. I think you can use ArcSDE command to created a ASDE service on, then you can use SDE Commands, your ArcOBject Applications can still use SDE or direct connections. Later I installed ArcSDE 10.1 on this machine, probably finally ArcSDE commands will go away. 5.But from my testing, you can not simplly publish the ,msd files which you published on 10, you need to use the new tool to publish or created a .sd file. The things I could not understand is that: when you publish your. sd file , but you still see the process created .msd and .mxd files, for example ( C:\arcgisserver\directories\arcgissystem\arcgisinput\TEST\test1.MapServer\extracted\v101\test.msd, or .mxd) I don't understand why not like 10, just publish from .msd and .mxd file, for me . Also, I don't like the webadaptor feature, for me, most machines which we set ArcGIS server on, there will be IIS on, I think it is easier for admin system like before. It is my experiences so far.

In ArcGIS server 10, if we login manager, go setting,then login with ArcGIS Server admin account, we could retrive bing map code to develop application and add bing layers . After I set up ArcGIS server 10.1, we could not find a way to retrieve the bing map code, from ArcGIS server 10.1 set up help, I found : http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//0155000004qm000000 In version 10, I could retrieve my Bing Maps key from Manager. How do I do this in 10.1? The ability to retrieve your Bing Maps key using Manager has been removed at 10.1. You should visit the Esri Customer Care website or contact your Esri customer service representative to find out your key. So I called ESRI customer support, I was connected to product specialist, customer service, after a few rounds, I was told: if you need use bing map, you just added from ArcMap. I was asked to send them email about above link, I did, then I got the email from ESRI support again: What authorization code are you using for the Server product? The Product Specialist is asking. They need this information to assist with your questions below. Actully I am using ArcGIS Server enterprise, I just wnat to know if I can get a bing map key to develop ArcGIS Server SL application which could add bing layers as background layer , like we did in ArcGIS Server 10. Anybody knows?

I really hope I coul know if other people have the problem with this build-in servicce or not, so I could figure out if it is my configuration problem or not. Actually today,I got the chance to test again, it partially worked for me: 1.If graphic was a point and the symbol was simple maker symbol, no controltemplate inside, no visualstates, not binding to any text, it worked, otherwise, it failed. 2.If the graphic was a polyline with simple polyline, it worked. 3. if the graphic was ploygon with FillSymbol, if failed. Thanks for any help.

Beacuse no Silverlight,no Flash for WinRT, I wonder if ArcGIS Server Javascript ( html 5)API will work on METRO mode or not. I am very curious at technology trend too.

This afternoon, I just got ArcGIS 10.1 set up on my test machine, I was really excited and could not wait one more minute to test PrintTool ( build-in geopreocessing service ). I was really bothered by asking to save map as images and pdfs, I tried to built my own tools to save the map as PNG image, but I had problem with bing layers. From the service description, I hoped it could finally solve my problem. The PrintingTools service is used by web application developers to export the contents of a webmap to pdf, jpeg, png or other formats. This service is generally used in the context of providing applications with printing functionality I built a test application: First, I added bing layers,it worked like a dream, step by step, I added ESRI online layers, feature layers, map services from different domains, it worked as expected. Then, I started to test graphicsLayers, ( user drawn graphics, query results), probably it doesn't work for graphicsLayer. I tried to deploy the test app under the same web server (from my previous experience with writeblebitmap), it still didn't solve the problem. 1. The first time click Export Map button, it works with the graphics on the map, but no matther what color of the graphic is, the image will show black color of the graphic. Please see the attachment Capture1 2, the second time click Export Map Button, the error will show up instead of image URL, ( object reference not set a value yet). Please see the attachment Capture2. Because I just set up ArcGIS server 10.1 today,I am not sure I am quite familar with the configuration yet, and I couldn't find any info about if this build-in service works with GraphicsLayer or not. I looked the ESRI prining sample, I tested the sample on my local with ESRI online sample Printing GpServer,it only worked for me if all layers were ESRI online layers, not layers from differnt domains. Any help, ideas, experiences are appreciated.

I am trying to set up ArcGIS 10.1, but I always failed at creating new site, the error shows: Failed to create the site. The machine does not have a valid license. Please authorize ArcGIS Server by clicking Start > Programs > ArcGIS > Software Authorization I authorized the ArcGIS server or used Software Authorization, authorizations never failed, everything was OK, but I just could not create the new site, and I always got the above error. I completely wiped out ESRI staff including registration, then reinstall it, I still got the error. I also have another question, could ArcGIS server 10.1 stands alone without ArcGIS desktop installed on the same computer? I really appreciate any help, idea , clue on this issue.

hi, Broux Thank you so much. we tested the sample yesterday, in the early morning, it worked, then we got the errors such as: NotFound or data sources string is not available etc( on different computers). After read your reply, we checke the sample again, it is working now. Hi, I am trying to run ESRI sample: network - Closet Facility ( http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/samples/start.htm#ClosestFacility ) Occationality it worked, most time, I got the error :The remote server returned an error : Not Found The problem for me with IE browser , it seems the sample NAServer URL has a whitespace ( %20). ( http://sampleserver3.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Network/USA/NAServer/Closest%20Facility ) I wonder why ESRI created this sample service name with a white space .

Actually I have these two files under wwwroot. what I did for the problem: 1. I changed the map service URL links by using IP address instead of server names, then the application could be access by IP addrss or server name. The strange thing is that: If I don't use IP address for Map service REST URLs, then I get error like: a crossdomain file is needed, a security problem ( actualyl I have a crossdomain file). But there is no problem for WCF service, I can use IP address or server name. However, I don't think this is a solution using IP address for REST urls for the problem, because I have an emergency recover system, I have secondary ArcGIS server machine which are standbying, if the primary down, I could not simply switch DNS , I need to manually change the IP addr for my applications( inside code). 2. Worked with network system group, make the DNS name , alias name available for all people (in different locations) . Thanks for your kind inputs.
