For what it's worth you can make a field read only when the dataset is loaded into ArcMap by going to the layer properties > field tab.  So if you supply your datasets to others as layerfiles they won't be able to edit those fields. Bit of a fudge... ... View more

Sounds, you've got it sorted. You would run the truncate table via the geo-processor object. In fact you can run any of the system tools. Have a look at this thread, it has nothing to do with your problem but does show how you would use arcobjects to call any of the standard geo-processing tools. ... View more

Peter, You show a line using the deleteSearchedRows method but you say "I want to remove all of the features...". So which is it? Are you wanting to remove ALL features regardless of any selection or remove only the SELECTED features? Unbelievable! I spent nearly an hour looking at this problem as I would have typically passed in the IFeaturelayer object as a parameter. So all you had to do is pass in the layer name instead... I wish ESRI would document these important but subtle differences. ... View more

Armin, I have been having a go in VBA at resolving your problem. I too can make it come up with an error message if 1 or more fields has been turned off. Unfortunately I have been unable to resolve it but I did come up with a partial fix that stopped it returning an error. So if you had a dataset with some fields turned off the following code allowed it to run but it ignored the turned off fields. The result is a table in Excel as if you had not turned off any fields... I think this is a bug (hopefully the ESRI developers will pick up on this thread?) or requires some esoteric fix that is not documented anywhere! It starts with the basics and then leads into using Python and ArcPy so very desktop focused. It looks like the Interface IMapDocument is broken as someone here was unable to use it, they also give a link to escalate the bug (but only if you are U.S. customer). For what's its worth I did find this python solution.  Now I have never done this so don't know what the pitfalls are but it appears you can call python from within VB .Net have a look at this. Are you aware thay ArcMap has a GPS toolbar, it allows you to connect to a GPS and pan to the current location. You could then simply click a point on the map. Have a look at the desktop help file and search for "gps toolbar". ... View more

I like this idea as sometimes I want to see the actual value stored. But if they do add this as a new option I think there should be some sort of visual flag indicating that the field has a domain but is not showing its description. ... View more
