Thanks for jumping in Dan! Here are my results... G:\Custom Tools\Get IR Count\Install Which was not exactly as expected. I have revised and still missing?

The script inside the toolbox works properly when running alone. However when I open the toolbar in arcmap always a [Missing] Error. The following is my entire add-in .py? I cannot for the life of me figure out what is missing here?...

relPath = os.path.dirname(__file__)
class ButtonClass1(object):
"""Implementation for Get IR Count_addin.button (Button)"""
def __init__(self):

I am looking to create datadriven text elements without the use of data driven pages. From feature selection I hope to use a combination of a couple of field values (sp. LOT_NUM, BLOCK_NUMB) and text so that:.. "Lot No: " <LOT_NUM> etc. Is this possible? How might that look? Thanks in advance...

Hey Wayne. Thanks for choosing my example for your experiment. This is a very ingenious solution and a thorough explanation! I will have to spend a little time working thru the details but I am very grateful for this excellent response. I like you am still familiarizing myself with Geonet. But I like what I have seen so far... Thanks a million, I will add to when I have a grasp on this approach. So appreciated. Thank you!! -Noah

Post the rest of the script? Hey Ian. Large script and would prefer not to post everything. Here is what I believe to be pertinent tho...

#Create temp layer for origin and destination
Ends = arcpy.MakeFeatureLayer_management(subs, "Ends", where_clause_envelope)
fields = ["SHAPE@X","SHAPE@Y"]
cursor = arcpy.da.SearchCursor(Ends, fields)
record1 = next(cursor)
record2 = next(cursor)
x1 = record1[0]
x2 = record2[0]
y1 = record1[1]
y2 = record2[1]

arcpy.Point(x2,y2)]

Thanks Andrew for chiming in. I have looked at this and seems to suggest there is a schema lock or similar on the input raster. I can't imagine why this would be true. Interesting enough I can run the same script hardcoded in the IDE without this error? However when I try running dynamically through a custm tool the error occurs. Any thoughts?

I recieve the following message well into the script. Several dtasets have already been saved to this workspace. This is the only place to script fails. dist_Raster_0 also exists in the workspace and is not empty. Any ideas? ExecuteError: ERROR 999999: Error executing function. The table was not found. [VAT_dist_Raster_0] ERROR 010060: Could not open and write to c:\windows\system32\poi011. Failed to execute (ExtractByPoints).

I am still a little unclear after reading the literature? How does one determine the accumulated cost of all cells along a least cost path over a distance raster? The attribute table of the path only shows the the source value of the the source cell from the distance raster. This means that if another path even though longer and includes more cells in which overlay the cost distance raster will always report the source value of the cost distance raster. How can I determine independent accumulative costs for both cost paths over the same surface?

Does this have to be accomplished through python as well? Not sure if this is possible, but you can do this using the COGO toolbar: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//01m700000008000000 Yes unfortunately I need to accomplish this dynamically and as part of a much larger python script?
