Andrew, You've got me more confused now. Whare are authorization codes? I help manage our 50 user ArcGIS Online for Organizations account and I'm unaware of any authorization codes for users. We add users to our organization but if they leave or quit using AGOL we delete them thereby freeing up that named user.

I've copied and pasted feature classes with domains for years, but haven't encountered this same error until today. I'm copying from one ArcSDE database to another. The target sde database does not contain any domains. When I go to paste I'm use to seeing the feature class named and all of the domains listed but not this time. The only thing that looks different is that the domains all have spaces in their names. Is this a problem? We are running ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 on both desktop and SDE. SQL Server 2012.

Beware of Bug NIM-090100 that was introduced in 10.1 SP1. It was identified 18 months ago as a medium severity bug but I talked to ESRI and they aren't fixing it anytime soon. Synopsis Extra fields called SHAPE_ST.AREA__ and SHAPE_STLENGTH__ are added to an output feature class when using the Feature Class to Feature Class and the Copy Features geoprocessing tools. Additional Status Information N/A Alternate Solution Remove the extra fields from the Field Map in the Feature Class to Feature Class geoprocessing tool.

We have a new map service based on a services of old paper maps that have been scanned. Since it's a raster there is no way to display a legend. Is there a way to embed a hyperlink in the map service's item description section? I tried using embedding the http address in html href tag but that didn't work when viewing the properties in ArcMap. <a href="http://wdfw.wa.gov/webmaps/gohunt/faq/StreamCatalogLegend.png">Legend</a> What other approachs are there for displaying a legend for map services of raster data for use in ArcMap?

Steve, We started seeing problems with strange extents only after upgrading to ArcSDE 10.1 SP1. I did the upgrade at the same time SQL Server was upgraded from 2008 to 2012 but it's probably the SDE upgrade that did it. I've encountered more serious bugs in ArcSDE 10.1 then previous versions.

After over 20 years of being cowboys my agency has finally decided they want one standard shared by both the traditional business side and the GIS side. Our business database developers have use and argue for all table names to be singular. When looking at the wild west, aka GIS folks, I see a combination between using singular and plural in feature class names. I understand the needs for standards but non-GIS databases are hidden behind user interfaces and application where as most of our users are looking straight at the data in ArcMap / ArcCatalog. Some feature class names just sound more natural using the plural like Cities vs City. What are others doing for feature class naming conventions?

How do you turn off the SDEVERBOSE? I followed your instructions for setting SDEVERBOSE to true. After testing I went back into the database connection but the ;SDEVERBOSE=TRUE section was gone SDE layers added to lyr files still show it as TRUE therefore I added ;SDEVERBOSE=FALSE to the connection and resourced the feature class in the lyr file, but now it reads ;SDEVERBOSE=FALSE;SDEVERBOSE=TRUE I;m running 10.1 SP1

The bug is fixed at 10.2.2. We have one test PC running 10.2.2 so I might use that. But like most ESRI bugs it's disappointing that you have to upgrade to in order to get the fix but then something else breaks.

Thanks but that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I need to identify which feature classes need upgrading which the UpgradeMetadata_conversion doesn't do. Here is my problem, some of the feature classes have gone through the metadata upgrade and the data stewards have updated the metadata through the new interface. If I run the upgrade again that will over write the metadata for that feature class. Therefore, I only want to run the upgrade on feature classes that have not been upgraded! Plus at 10.1, the upgrade command doesn't update the Citation Title when going from FGDC to the ArcGIS format. This bug was identified in 10.0 but still isn't fixed at 10.1 SP1.
