A coworker just bought a $14,000 8 core server with 256 GB of memory to do show heavy duty processing. He was running a process that was working on a polygon feature class with over 10 million polygons. Task manager showed that Arc Pro was using about 55 GB of memory. Impressive, yet scary!

If you go to the USGS ArcGIS REST Services page you'll see their map services page tricked out with Banner and Footer showing their logo and contact information. How are they doing that and is this something that is customizable on every ArcGIS Server?

471 views and no responses so here's a specific case. When needing to represent True / False or Yes / No which of the following examples is better from a geodatabase design point of view? Our database architect hates the option on the right but when looking at the data using a non-esri tool using letters makes it easy to understand without needing to do a database join. Store an integer or Store a string and use the first letter 0 - 'No' 'N' - 'No' 1 - 'Yes' 'Y' - 'Yes' 0 - 'False' 'F' - 'False' 1 - 'True' 'T' - 'True'

When publishing a map service there are 4 Item Descriptions that get auto-populated from the MXD's map properties. But there is a fifth Item Description called "Access and Use Constraints" that is blank. I've been filling this out using the ArcGIS Server Manager but I don't see that field displayed in the rest end point. So it looks like it is a waste of time populating it if it's only visible through ArcGIS Server Manager. FYI, we are running Server 10.2.2.

When a domain is created there is a description that can be filled out along with the domain properties. This is separate from the description of domain codes. Is there anyway to deport or copy out the domain's description? There are too many domains to highlight, copy and paste them out. Thanks

Isn't the Image Server Extension needed to serve out a mosaic dataset when some of your users do not have access to the file system location containing the mosaic and the imagery? Image Server Extension is pricey so we are still hosting imagery in SQL/SDE. Yes, we know it's not as fast and that we have to save a SQL backup of the data so it does takes basically double the disk space!

I wish there were more technical workshops preceding the UC! For me I'd like to see a full day of SQL Server / SDE on upgrading, what's new, and advanced topics. Getting to the UC is the hurdle so paying for a targeted workshop wouldn't be a problem. I think there was only one session during the whole week on SQL / SDE.

Mike, I just got done publishing a zipped file geodatabase using 10.1 SP1 and the domains aren't showing up in AGOL. Is the bug in ArcGIS Online or in Desktop? If the bug is in AGOL did it get fixed? I tried the other method through ArcMap but it failed with the wonderful ERROR 999999 when trying to publish.

Derek, If they have ArcGIS Server could they apply security to the map service(s) through a Windows domain group? So anyone in their agency could get to the portal web site but only those in the windows group would see the restricted data. Not perfect but no named users needed in this model.

Are you talking Layerfiles or GIS layers / feature classes. If you're talking layerfiles then those users will have to bring in your edited layerfile to see the changes you made to it. Once a layerfile is brought into a map document there is not connection back to that file.

At the ESRI conference the ESRI staff at the Enterprise island said that they planed to have all functionality of the command line tools recreated in the GUI. I heard this twice. I guess I'm surprised. Also, I thing the ideas site has become a joke. It's just a feel good mechanism. I've spent over a month coding workarounds for the bugs they introducted in 10.1 and those bugs still aren't fixed in 10.3. The most serious bug involving SQL native Geometry is 21 months old, has been assigned a severity of "medium" yet they can't say when it will be fixed. We only moved to the SQL Server Geometry type because of another but introduced in 10.1. I miss the workstation days when a new versions contained new functionality and very few bugs!

marty, You're posting to the wrong area on GeoNet. This is the GeoNet Help place (or space?). Goto theGeoNet Community Structure and you'll see all the other location at least one of which will be an appropriate forum. Also be sure to use TAGS.
