Are you really adding fields to shape files or are you adding fields to a geodatabase feature class? How are you adding the field? With a tool or in arcpy? Can you provide a screen shot of the actual error the gets returned?

...not excited about reverse geocoding or creating a locator at this time. Life is all about trade-offs, I guess. In your case I think you'll need to go the route suggested by @Anonymous User as I don't know how to capture a mouse click/reverse geocoded point to python.

Perhaps you could provide the script in its entirety. It seems that the script is calling an aprx, and my guess is that aprx has the "Recreation Asset Inventory" feature layer in it.

You could create a locator based on zipcode if you have access to zipcode data. All the trees in a given zipcode will be matched in the same location so you won't get any sort of precision out of it. If your data had some sort of coordinate pairs you could reverse geocode them to a locator.
