I am sitting here trying to figure out "Why I didn't think of that!!!" You are right, I should be able to create another table from the results of just the "UnMatched and the StreetCenterline Matches!" And use those to re-geocode. Thank You! Sometimes all it takes is another set of eyes or ears. Glad to help out. Good luck with it!

While I don't use version 10 as of yet, it does not surprise me that you are unable to review your addresses as you describe. Perhaps one of the ESRI folks can weigh on this. That said, is there a way to tease out just those records that you haven't yet reviewed and or fixed. If so you could just re- geocode those that need to be, rather than starting from scratch. Deadlines not withstanding, I'd hate to see you start over as you would as well. ( I hope this posts correctly; I'm rattling down a commuter rail as I peck this on an iPhone)

I found this Geocoding Blog entry that talks about ramping up the performance of address locators. http://blogs.esri.com/dev/blogs/geocoding/archive/2011/02/09/tuning-a-locator-for-improved-performance.aspx I'm working towards this. I'll touch base again with the results. Keith- that's a great blog post; thanks for sharing it!

Perhaps Bruce H from ESRI will chime in; he's the go to guy for v10 geocoding!

What version of Arc GIS are you guys using? I'm still at 9.3, and I'm not sure I see what the problem is...

I think it depends on how you score a match. In the limited experience Ive had with composites, I set the score at 100%. That way it's either a hit or not. It makes sense to me that if you are okay with a match scoring less than 100% that both might return partial hits.

Well, I just added a published locator service to a 9.3 ArcMap session using the geocoding tool bar and everything works. Don't know why it doesn't work for you.

I keep hearing all these great things about ArcGis 10.x and geocoding. Gotta give it a try some time... All serious aside, unless things have radically changed in 10.x from 9.3.x and earlier, you should be able to access the locator from ArcCatalog or ArcMap. Take a look at this link for ArcCatalog connections. It's pretty straight forward. In the good old days of ArcMap 9.3 (which is where I live, work and play) one simply goes to the Tools menu, and selects Geocoding/Address Locator Manager. Then use the add button to navigate to the connection you've already set up in ArcCatalog. See attached image. Hope this helps.

I need roads that were built last month. Well... I'll settle for roads with homes receiving mail. Yeah, everybody wants them and wants them for free. Good luck with that. For Utah you can check the state's Automated Geographic Reference Center.

I'm not suggesting to look at each record, just the field names of the address table. However, you may also want to look for <null> values within the actual records. I don't like using spreadsheets for address tables; I'd rather upload them into some flavour of geodatabase. The select tool is good for listing all the values in any field including <null>; you let the machine do the work, right?!

My comments in bold.... I created a geocoding engine from census edge shapefiles. How can I update with new streets? Your locator points to a feature class of streets; if you edit that feature class, and you want the changes to be recognized by your locator, right click on the appropriate locator icon in arc catalog and select rebuild. Where can I find updated data? How far is up? What region are you looking for? Have you tried local governments like city, county or state gis providers? Isn't there some streets data that ships with ArcGIS software? How current are your census edges? have you tried to get more current data from them? Hope this helps-

Take a look at the field names in the spreadsheet. If there are any special characters or spaces in the field names it'll choke.

I get the same (lack of) performance as you do Dan. It doesn't seem to want to hang on to the field mapping. As soon as I close that field, and then reopen it, they are gone...

Dan- saw your reply on the general forum. I guess I'm lucky that I only deal with one locator at a time, but interesting to know you can batch process locators. I may give a go just to see how/if it works for me. Hopefully someone here can answer your question; there are a couple of ESRI folks lurking out there in the cloud that could probably take care of you.

Personally, I wouldn't user the tool, I'd just go through the tutorial listed here. Basically what you need is a feature class to match against, typically street centerlines that have address ranges and street names. Depepnding on how that data is set up is how you'll go about creating a locator. The easiest locator to use (assuming you are in the U.S. and you have street centerline data) is the U.S Streets type. Your table of addresses will have to follow the same standardization as the data you are matching against. For example, there will need to be a field called ADDRESS and it should contain the address info that will work against your data. It should look like 1234 Main ST, or 1234 S Money Grubbing LN. Notice that one address has a prefix directional and the other does not. They both have street Sufix types and those are standarized. How is your data set up? Do you use pre-directionals? If you do, are spelled out or simply N E W S? Or are is it No sometimes and N other times and NORTH still other times? If you have a type, is it Street or ST or STR or?? That's what I mean about standarization. Give the tutorial a spin and if you are still lost, post something back up here. You can email me at my first intitial, lastname at companyname.com shown below. Hope this helps-
