I've always used the Data Interoperability Quick Import to convert IFC into fGDB feature classeses without problems. I used to follow the settings described in a Esri post and visible at this link: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/QUICK-IMPORT.png?rmedium=bulk-arcgis-files&rsource=https://b… . After upgrading to 2.3 however the Quick Import stopped working as it did, throwing a generic error. In the logs (comerrors-log-20190325.log), I see something like: 20190325-095325: HRESULT fail in file FMEArcToolboxUtil.cpp at line 552 20190325-095325: HRESULT fail in file FMEArcToolboxUtil.cpp at line 588 I really need help to understand how to solve this issue as it is blocking my BIM-GIS workflow. I attach an IFC which used to work with the previous versions with the aforementioned settings (Rete.ifc). I tried to restore the Data Interoperability installation but that did not sove the problem. I noticed that in the IFC Parameters there's a new set of parameters that previously was missing (highlighted in yelow), maybe this could be of help...

Indeed, I see that there's a "AUTH_KEY" row in the SDE_server_config table with an "ECP" like code inside (probably auto generated?) and a "TEMP" row with the path to a client's %APPDATA% local folder. Here (e.g. C:\Users\<MY_USER>\AppData\Local\Temp\arcA838), I can see a file with the same value as the "AUTH_KEY" row. So, the answer to the question "Does a Database Server Desktop need to be authorized explicitly?" seems "No". Apparently, the authorization process goes under the hood when connecting from a client. Thanks for the feedback.

Following the instructions in Set up a database server—Database Server (Desktop) installation guide | ArcGIS Desktop, after installing the SQL Express it reads If you are setting up a database server to store desktop geodatabases, proceed to the Next steps , and then the only thing left is to connect from (e.g.) ArcMap. From what I guess, there's no explicit way to authorize the Database Server Desktop, it's the client connecting to it that should be a Standard or an Advanced Desktop license that will pass or not the authorization. Is that correct? Does this mean that whatever client with these license leve could connect, regardless its authorization code? I am actually using it without authorizing it, so I guess it's like that, but I would like to have a confirmation. I am aware of the three-cocnurrent-desktop-users limit, but I am just curious about this thing. With ArcGIS Server and Workgroup datasbases, I was used to find a "keycodes" file with the various authorization codes under "C:\Program Files\ESRI\License10.X\sysgen" path. Is it different for Desktop ones? Thanks for clarifying.

Can confirm this happens with Italian language pack as well! A colleague of mine had this installed while I did not. I coud see the updates while he was just seing "current version" when it was outdated. Uninstalling the language pack fixed the issue for him.

Yuriko Hashimoto thanks for the hint. I don't know if it's a problema related to the style I am using: in facts, I can see the same symbols showing up properly when lines are not vertical both in desktiop and server. I am guessing is another bug related to ArcGIS dealing with vertical geometries (as in my other thread). Of course, I will give the ESRI_Optimized style a try when I can and come back if I discover something new. Thanks!

Thank you Adrian Welsh. I am trying this with the Quick Import from ArcGIS Pro (v.2.2.4). Bruce Harold Thanks. I will ask because unfortunately the data is not mine, but I will surely open a ticket if I am told I can share the data, and if there's no previous knowledge on this problem. Thanks.

I was given some IFC made with "Sierrasoft Roads" software. Everytime I try to convert them to a featureclass using Data Interoperability's Quick Import, I always hit this error: ISO10303-21: Skipping instance #75: Instance is not syntactically valid. Opening the IFC in Notepad and inspecting the instance I read: #37=IFCCONNECTEDFACESET((#49,#56,#63,#70,#77,#84,#91,#98,#105,#112,#119,#126,#133,#140,#147,#154,#161,#168,#175,#182,#189,#196,#203,#210)); So, either the instance is indeed invalid, or the Data Interoperability cannot interpret it correctly. If this might be of interest, opening the IFC with Civil 3D I can see the model without problem. Some specs: Data Interoperability (and Pro) version is 2.2 IFC version is IFC2X3 The Quick Import settings: the same as explained in a 2016 Esri post (unfortunately I cannot find the link, but only the one to this picture)

George Thompson Sorry to bother again. While I am waiting for the support to handle my issue, I would like to ask you one more question if you know the answer: I did not specify I installed version 10.6.1 of Database Server (Desktop). Would this be the problem (meaning I am trying to create a geodatabase with a 10.4.1 ArcMap client on a 10.6.1 database server)? I could not find an answer in these links: ArcGIS client and workgroup or desktop geodatabase compatibility—Help | ArcGIS Desktop Compatibility between ArcGIS clients and geodatabases in SQL Server—Help | ArcGIS Desktop Many thanks in advance!

Really appreciate your effort in solving the issue I am facing. Did the installer you use come from Microsoft or Esri? I have downloaded it from myesri. What is the version of SQL client being used? ArcGIS 10.4.x needs the ODBC 11 drivers installed. I downloaded the ODBC 11 driver for version 10.4.1 from myesri and lanched the setup. Apparently, I had a previous version of the driver installed and the setup upgraded it. Nevertheless, I still have this issue unfortunately.

George Thompson Thanks for the feedback. Is SQL Express 64 or 32 bit version? It is 64bit. what is the memory being used by the SQL instance when creating the GDB? Don't know how to tell this... From the task manager I can see the "never-to-be-finished"-SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) process is taking about 70 MB, if this might be relevant.

Hello, I downloaded from myesri and installed SQL SERVER EXPRESS 2014 and enabled it spatially (all through the "Database Server Desktop" installer). I have added some windows logins to my instance and granted them sysadmin privileges (via ArcCatalog). From one of my sysadmin users I try to create a new Desktop gdb (via right click on the SQL EXPRESS instance in the catalog -> New Geodatabase). ArcMap is 10.4.1. I named it "test" and then created it leaving all other parameters as defaults. This is what I see: However, it can't go on... I am forced to shutdown ArcMap. I can then reopen ArcMap, see the gdb, but it is corrupted and I cannot use it. In the server machine where I installed SQL EXPRESS I can go in the logs (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\Log), and here are some rows I see in ERRORLOG. The full log is attached. 2018-12-20 10:42:56.01 spid51 Starting up database 'test'. 2018-12-20 10:42:56.76 spid51 Setting database option RECOVERY to SIMPLE for database 'test'. 2018-12-20 10:43:25.63 spid54 Setting database option READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT to ON for database 'test'. 2018-12-20 10:43:25.69 spid54 Starting up database 'test'. 2018-12-20 10:43:25.91 spid54 Setting database option ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION to ON for database 'test'. 2018-12-20 10:43:44.89 spid54 AppDomain 29 (master.sys[runtime].28) created. 2018-12-20 10:43:47.01 spid33s AppDomain 29 (master.sys[runtime].28) is marked for unload due to memory pressure. 2018-12-20 10:43:47.01 spid33s AppDomain 29 (master.sys[runtime].28) unloaded. 2018-12-20 10:44:15.20 spid54 AppDomain 30 (master.sys[runtime].29) created. Specs of the server machine are: Any idea how to make it work?
