I have had issues with scaling of copied features if the layouts are not at the same scale. So, zoom map layout 1 to max extent and copy the feature in question. then go to map layout 2, and zoom to the same map extent before pasting the feature. Best regards, Jim

No, there is not a way to update the annotation. Once you convert to annotation, the link to the data is broken, and alterations to the table used initially to create the labels, are not passed on to the annotation. Unfortunately, you will need to delete the annotation layer (or remove the association to the layer and turn it off) and recreate it with your updated table. If you anticipate modifying your table again, do not convert to annotation, as you will have this issue once again. Regards, Jim

If you double click the layout, you will see that the line defining the data frame becomes hatched. Now when you enter text graphics, it is in the data frame space instead of floating on the layout, and unattached. Text placed in this manner will be rooted where you place it, and will stay in place as you pan or zoom in or out. Best Regards, Jim

Some information for you: Building a query expression—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop Geodatabase uses a * as the wildcard. Also, when searching a string, you need to be careful that your wildcard does not get read as actually part of the string. Best Regards, Jim

First, eliminate the map document as a potential source of offset. Open a new map document and add your data files. I assume that both files have a defined projection. If they still do not overlay correctly, 1 of them has an incorrect projection defined. Add the world imagery, and see if the sid imagery aligns correctly. If yes, your other dataset is creating the problem, and you will have to investigate it's source. Best Regards, Jim

If you are seeking a single value, why are you interpolating a surface? Could you simply get statistics on the selected point data, and then choose which statistic you wish to use (ie: mean value)? Regards, Jim

If you wish to change the units of the dataframe, get Properties for the dataframe, go to the General Tab and alter the map units. If you wish to change the scale bar, get properties for the scale bar in the layout window and change the division units. Best Regards, Jim

I believe that you are looking at the code sample, which is simply showing the appropriate syntax for the tool, and is not a tutorial with actual sample data. You will need to input your own data, following the syntax example provided. Regards, Jim

Be aware that data types in a map can cause issues. Specifically, excel data when added will create a lock file, preventing you from having more than 1 person accessing it at a time. This will cause errors when you have a map open with a pointer to that file, and a second person attempts to open that map document. Solution: use a different file format, such as shapefile or feature class. Regards, Jim

A couple of things: 1) ListFeatureClasses requires some arguments ListFeatureClasses(wild_card, feature_type, feature_dataset), and you are not passing anything, so your shapefile list is empty. 2) As Joshua indicated, you are passing an empty string as the name. You need to alter to: for shape in shapelist: ... lyr.replaceDataSource(r"\\path\Set1Test", "SHAPEFILE_WORKSPACE", shape) Best Regards, Jim

This is an extremely vague question. There are 100's of books devoted to the subject of different map projections and their strengths and weaknesses. Start with this if you need the basics: What are map projections?—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop there are links for more specific information in the help document, as well. Regards, Jim
