Yes, that is the limitation I mentioned. You will have to relate required data and save them in the Map Document (MXD). Other than this, I don't see an option for you.

He just meant that the Personal Geodatabases (*.mdb) are not supported with ArcGIS Pro. While the document doesn't specifically mention 10.2.1 and 10.2.2, there is a mention of it in that link suggesting that it should work: While ArcGIS 10 clients can open, query, edit, and save data in 10.1, 10.2.x, and 10.3.x geodatabases, they cannot open datasets with 10.1, 10.2.x, or 10.3.x functionality and will encounter the following error message when trying to open one of these datasets: The version of the Geodatabase client is incompatible with the dataset and cannot open it.

Check if "Relates" suits your needs: Essentials of relating tables—Help | ArcGIS Desktop Relating the attributes in one table to another—Help | ArcGIS Desktop Relates defined in ArcMap are essentially the same as simple relationship classes defined in a geodatabase, except that they are saved with the map instead of in a geodatabase.

Just to test your workflow, I downloaded the 'ArcGIS Addressing Assistant', copied all the data to a new SQL Server Enterprise geodatabase> Delete the File gdb> Resource the layer in the MXD> Change the Definition Query as needed> Everything seems to be working fine and no error is thrown. So my question would be, what is the SQL present in the Definition Query for that layer? or maybe I am missing some other necessary step? I used ArcGIS 10.4.1, SQL Server 2014.

DB2 data types supported in ArcGIS—Help | ArcGIS Desktop ArcGIS works with specific data types. When you access a database table through a Database Connection or a query layer, ArcGIS filters out any unsupported data types. ArcGIS will not display unsupported data types and you cannot edit them through ArcGIS. So make sure that the Data Type is supported.

Just fyi...copying a feature class carries over the edits in the version of the geodatabase you are connected to, while doing the copy. So, if you had connected to the editor's Version in ArcCatalog connection, and then done the Copy\paste to another location\same gdb....it would have kept the edits in that version in the feature class copy. Just in case this helps in the future.

You can work with existing Geodatabase and data. Create the required domains > Make sure the Feature class is not being used anywhere (in other words, it is not locked) > Assign the Domains to the desired fields in the Feature Class properties..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > MSSQL$sqlexpress > ARCSDE_License The "MSSQL$sqlexpress " will vary depending on the name of your Instance. From the Database Server properties, it seems that it worked. You can confirm by creating a new sde Personal geodatabase. If that works, then all good. I have converted the Discussion as a Question.

No you do not need to uninstall SQL Server. Check this location in Windows Registry to confirm: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > MSSQL$sqlexpress > ARCSDE_License Once you have successfully executed the setup, the license will automatically populate and show up in the above location. Also, after connecting in ArcCatalog, if you check the Properties of that connection, it should show something like this:
