Allow the near me widget to utilize network resources, such as a ArcGIS for Server Network Analyst service, to search by driving time or driving distance, instead of a buffer.

Thanks for catching that. Apparently I needed another cup of coffee that day. Once I added the iteration,everything worked. Thank you, Joshua.

Hello, A customer of mine has set up a SQL Server table with address, latitude, and longitude fields. They've asked me to geocode the addresses and populate the latitude and longitude fields with the results. This is a non-spatial table. They plan to use the lat/long values in other, non-ESRI, applications. I've already got a process that will read the addresses from the SQL Server table, geocode them, and save the results into a feature class within a file geodatabase. I'm trying to build a python script that will update the SQL Server table with the results from the feature class. import pyodbc
import arcpy
fc = r'C:\FGDB.gdb\featureclass'
cnxn = pyodbc.connect('Driver={ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server};'
'Server=SQLServer;'
'Database=Database;'
'Trusted_connection=yes')
with arcpy.da.SearchCursor(fc,['FCID','GCAcc']) as curFC:
curSQL=cnxn.cursor()
curSQL.execute('UPDATE tabAddress SET Addr1_GCAcc = ? WHERE TableID = ?', curFC[1], curFC[0])
curSQL.commit()
curSQL.close() FYI, I changed the feature class and SQL server names in the above code. However, I was able to successfully read the SQL server table using the pyodbc connection. After I run the script, I get the following error message: Traceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\Users\myprofile\Desktop\testODBC\asdf.py", line 14, in <module>
curSQL.execute('UPDATE tabAddress SET Addr1_GCAcc = ? WHERE TableID = ?', curFC[1], curFC[0])
SystemError: error return without exception set FYI, FCID is a long integer field and GCAcc is a string field. Could the FCID field in the execute statement not be formatting correctly? I checked with the SQL Server admin and I'm supposed to have update capabilities. Thank you, Lucas Murray

Not sure when this started or why but when I build a filter widget in the ArcGIS Online Web AppBuilder and set the expression to accept unique values, in the list of available values is one called "-empty-." When I select this value in the filter, it apparently has the same effect as turning off the filter in that all features are shown on the map. Is there a way to remove the -empty- option from the value list? I want to force users to select a specific value in the filter and not have the ability to see all features on the map.

Provide a way to track not only a web apps usage but also what features people commonly click on. Or, modify the usage tab in a hosted feature layer to show which features are commonly clicked on, providing there's an ability to filter the log by web app. This information would be very useful in determining how people are using the website and may help identify issues.

In the ArcGIS online Web AppBuilder tool, create a way (maybe through a new widget) that would allow app designers to string together multiple widgets. For example, create a way so users are forced to apply a filter using the Filter widget before they can search for the nearest feature using the Near Me widget. In addition, allow the use conditional logic (i.e. if/then/else) and include the ability for users to answer non-geographic questions. For example, in an app to help voters, they'll first be asked if they have a completed ballot they want to drop-off or if they need to complete a ballot. If they select they completed a ballot, they'll be presented with the Near Me widget to help find the nearest location to drop it off. If they select they need to fill out a ballot, they'll be presented with the District Locator tool to find the polling location they must go to. Thank you.

I finally figured out what was going on. The service I was using in the filter was being pulled in from an ArcGIS Server on my Production machine while the web app I was using was running on my Development machine. The service is secured so only certain people could access it. Even though I have permission to view the service and can view it in the web app, I think the filter tool is using the Development machine's credentials when it passes a request to the ArcGIS Server. Since the Development machine is not permitted to view the file, the Production server was denying access and the web app was getting hung up. When I copied the data to my Development ArcGIS Server and ran the filter using those files, everything worked as expected.

I'm testing the new filter widget available in Web AppBuilder that came with Portal for ArcGIS 10.5. When I create a filter with preset values entered, everything works fine. However, when I check the box to "Ask for values," the filter won't load. In the filter tab, I can see the filter name with a load icon next to it. However, it won't finish loading and I can't open/use the filter. I've looked through the help documents about the filter but can't figure out what the issue is. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Lucas

Rather than just finding the closest point, allow the Near tool to calculate the distance between a point and it's matching pair in a separate layer based on a matching unique ID. Or, if the relationship between the tables is not one-to-one, modify the Generate Near Table tool so it can calculate distances for tables that have a one-to-many relationship. Right now, the only way I can find to calculate the Euclidean distance between an origin table and a matching destination table is to use the XY To Line tool, which requires me to create a table with the origin and destination coordinates. It's a hassle to do the up-front work when it seems there should be a more direct way to calculate distances between point feature classes.

I usually have several layers in ArcMap that I need to set the page definition query for. With the page definition query being a wizard with a drop-down menu, I have to open each layer's page definition query, click the drop-down menu, and choose the correct field. When I have 20 or more layers, this can be a time consuming process. It would be a lot easier if the page definition query was a textbox, much like the Definition Query window. This way, as long as I keep the field names consistent, I can copy and paste a line of code into each layer.

I once tested adding secured and unsecured services to a map I designed using the ArcGIS API for JavaScript and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to learn JavaScript on my own and I don't have the money to hire someone to do it. Such is life, I guess.

Cole - I submitted this problem to ESRI Support. They were able to replicate the problem I was having and they couldn't find a solution. I let them know about Ahmed and Derek's posts below but neither I nor ESRI support were able to get the solutions to work. ESRI submitted this as a bug BUG-000087825, which can be seen at http://support.esri.com/en/bugs/nimbus/QlVHLTAwMDA4NzgyNQ . Unfortunately, the only solution they show so far is to create a separate Portal map for each set of users who will be accessing the map, which is what I've been doing.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a setting off somewhere. I've been having a lot of trouble getting Portal installed correctly. I looked over the link you sent but all of those settings are correct. At least I now know this set up should work. I'll submit a ticket to ESRI Support and see if they can help figure out what the issue is.

Hi Derek, What I meant by unfederated is Portal and AGS are set up so service authentication is handled by AGS and, therefore, each user accessing a web application does not need a named user account. In a federated model, Portal uses named user accounts to authenticate whether a user can access a web application and it's services. I may be using the term "unfederated" incorrectly but that's how I've seen it referred to in other posts. You're right that Portal still uses a named user account but only for the person building the web applications. The web app loads, including the basemap, but none of the services load. For example, if I have an app that references 2 services and I'm permitted to see one but not the other, Portal won't load either one. FYI, I've only tested this where both services are coming from the same AGS and, as stated above, AGS is handling the service authorization using web tier authorization and IIS.
