I've seen several older threads on this general topic, but none of the solutions I've seen in them have worked for me. I'm currently testing out the Attachment Viewer configurable app in ArcGIS Online as a replacement for the "classic" Shortlist storymap template. It looks like the app should be perfect for our purposes - an image-focused layout with a map to provide geographic context. However, I can't seem to get the app to work with the test data that I've cobbled together so far. When previewing, I get the "No attachments found" message, and when I open the builder, a small warning box says, "This application requires a layer that supports attachments and has 'supportsQueryAttachments' set to true." I'm not sure how to directly check the 'supportsQueryAttachments' flag, but the Query Attachments operation seems to be working just fine on the REST service. The only thing I'm aware of that I'm doing differently from the tutorials and walkthroughs I've found is that the attachments aren't being created using any of Esri's field collection apps. I used the Enable Attachments and Add Attachments tools in ArcGIS Pro to add the image attachments to the layer in an offline file geodatabase before uploading that layer to AGO. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong, or how I could try to fix it? For reference, here is the layer service I'm using: https://services1.arcgis.com/xUx8EjNc6egUPYWh/ArcGIS/rest/services/TAP_Test/FeatureServer/0 The AGO item page for the layer: https://semcog.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=dccf0576266a4ac2b19c53dbabcbd5bc The test app: https://semcog.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/attachmentviewer/index.html?appid=9b5d26ab4f80430782584f78cf01c541 And the test map: https://semcog.maps.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=39cb00ff9b654d92b29a6b4cf6d36c21

We tried putting them in the Open Data Portal as-is, but they both hung on download. We settled for adding the zipped file geodatabases that were used to upload them into the Open Data Portal, because those downloads worked (at least until recently, I've posted about the issues with them in a separate thread, and I plan to submit a support ticket about an apparent bug related to them soon)

That was the first thing I checked, it's been the solution to similar problems in the past. I'll submit a support ticket when I have the time, hopefully later this afternoon.

One of our open data users brought to my attention today the fact that some of our Open Data Portal downloads aren't working. Specifically, our file downloads aren't working, while our layer downloads appear to be working fine. Investigating more closely, I determined that the downloads actually work, but the portal is generating improperly-formatted URLs. For one of our items (a zipped file geodatabase containing a dataset so large that downloading it as a layer always hangs), the URL associated with the "Download" button is this: https://https//www.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/items/5b6f776bfec746ddbac968e3db9f8abb/data (You can click that to see the error message our user was getting) Look closely, and you'll see that there's an extraneous "https//" (sic) inserted into the URL near the beginning. If you manually remove it and paste the resulting link into your browser's URL bar, it takes you to the expected download. This wasn't happening a month or so ago when we set up these downloads. It is happening as of this morning. We haven't changed any of our Hub configuration in the meantime. Is there a way to fix this, or is this just a bug on the ArcGIS Online back-end?

I've had similar issues with our Open Data Portal. Some of our larger datasets quite simply hang forever when users attempt to download them. I'm pretty confident that it's not an issue with the way the data is formatted or the inclusion of m and z values, because the same data will often work if we break it into smaller pieces. For example, our seven-county building footprints file wouldn't download (observed for up to an hour with no sign of an actual download beginning), so we split it out into seven separate county files, and those worked fine. I had assumed that there was some designed or de facto limit on the size of dataset that the Open Data Portal can functionally work with, but if there's a way to get large datasets to download properly, it would save us a considerable amount of data maintenance work on our end.

That is not how I'm attempting to access the metadata editor. I'm clicking the Metadata button in the Item Description page. When I talk about metadata, I'm not referring to the very basic Summary/Description/Terms of UseTags/Credits that can be viewed directly on an item's Overview page. Our standard includes contact information, attribute descriptions, and other metadata fields found in the FGDC CSGDM format. When logged into our ArcGIS Online organization, I can access an editor that lets me fill these fields out by clicking the "Metadata" button on the right-hand side of the Overview page, several buttons down from the "Open in Map Viewer" button. When logged into the Hub account as the owner of a particular dataset, clicking that button instead opens a static view of the metadata. I tried to attach screenshots to illustrate what I'm talking about, but the uploader doesn't seem to be working for me.

I'm familiar with the metadata editor in ArcGIS Online, and I use it regularly in doing other parts of my job. Is there a way to access that metadata editor for a layer stored in a Hub initiative? When I try to access it the way I would for an item in the organization's ArcGIS Online account, it instead opens a static view of the existing metadata.

My organization has fairly strict standards for metadata, particularly for any data that will be available to the public. We have some GIS layers stored in one of our initiatives (we have Hub premium, not just the open data portal) that we would like to associate with metadata that meets our organization's standards, which are based on the FGDC CSDGM. However, whenever we upload these layers to the Hub storage, the metadata is automatically converted to ISO 13139 format and drops a number of fields from the metadata. Of greatest concern to us is that attribute definitions aren't included, which we consider essential for anything that may be used by people outside our organization. As a test, I tried uploading metadata in ISO 13139 format, and I got similar results. The resulting metadata was cleaner than what had been converted from FGDC format (the converted-from-FGDC metadata had some fields, such as tags, included multiple times in the XML), but it still clipped off the attribute definitions. Whether we upload in FGDC or ISO format, the metadata cannot be edited once in the Hub storage. Clicking the Metadata button on the Item Description page opens a static page showing the metadata in a browser window instead of opening the metadata editor as expected. Is there a way to have full control over the metadata associated with items in Hub initiatives, as there is with normal AGO items? If so, how do I do it?

I'm attempting to upload a few small, pretty straightforward layers to ArcGIS Online, with the intent of creating a Feature Layer View of each one. These views will have some of their attributes hidden, then be added to my organization's Open Data Portal. The problem is, the Create View Layer process keeps failing with the extremely unhelpful message, "Error: Unable to add feature service definition", as seen in the attachment. This is a workflow I've used many times before without issue, and indeed, it's only happening for two of the three layers in the current batch. The third one worked exactly as expected, and is currently in the Open Data Portal. Further complicating things, my attempts to do an end-run around the issue are also meeting with failure. I made a copy of the data with the attributes we want to hide removed, uploaded the layers, and the copied layers just simply don't appear in the Open Data Portal regardless of sharing settings. These aren't complicated datasets - they have several hundred features at most, with 6-12 attributes, mainly short text fields. Has anyone run into problems like these before? Did you find any solutions?

For context, my organization has Hub Premium, and we also have an Open Data Portal dating back to before Premium existed. Whenever someone who is currently logged into ArcGIS Online through a public account tries to view either our Open Data Portal or our Premium initiative, they get either a 404 error or a plain white screen. The console shows errors reading "Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'indexOf' of undefined". I haven't been able to test whether the same issue happens for people logged in with accounts from another organization. If they log out of ArcGIS Online, they can access our Hub sites without issue. Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue? Have you found a workaround? We're trying to promote our Open Data Portal, and it's not an insignificant problem if people who already use ArcGIS Online get blocked out of accessing the open data. For reference, here is our Open Data Portal: SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments) Open Data

Thank you! The code snippets you provided didn't quite work for my case, but it got me to the right places in the code to implement my own solution. It works quite well as an About Pane/Popup Pane hybrid, though as a first time widget developer, my code probably violates any number of the principles of the framework. If I have the time and drive, I might try to implement something nicer later. If you're interested, I'll post a link to the finished map once it's public.

Sorry if this has been brought up already, I didn't read all ~500 comments. Would it be possible to add some sort of default text to show when there is no currently-selected feature? One of my coworkers has seen this Esri-Leaflet map: Census 2020 Hard to Count Map and wants me to achieve similar on-click infobox functionality in a WAB map we're working on. Thankfully, he doesn't care about the mouse-hover effects. It would basically let us turn the left-hand into an About widget when nothing is selected, and a Popup Panel whenever something is selected, letting us save some screen real estate. Even if that's not possible, this widget is excellent, and thank you for developing it!

Hi Moataz, Unfortunately, we never found a workaround. We ultimately decided to drop the heatmap layer from the project. It's been nearly a year and a half, I'd hoped they would have improved the tiling algorithm to get around this by now.

I'm glad to hear that you're using our script! I talked to the guys who developed it, and it turns out our restore process for maps and apps is pretty manual. Our top priority was preserving data in the event of an editing mistake or other accident, as you can't undo or discard edits in AGO. For maps and apps, you can follow the steps my colleague wrote out below. If any of the layers or maps referenced by your map or app also needed to be restored, you may need to spend some time fixing broken itemId entries in the JSON, as well. Since I brought this to their attention, they're looking into whether a script could be written that would automate this process. Unfortunately, it's not a high priority for the organization, so I can't say when we might see results. How to restore a webmap or app: 1. Create a new webmap or app in ago 2. Copy the contents of the json file (the file with no extension) 3. On https://ago-assistant.esri.com/ choose the "I want to view an item's json" and click the new web map or app 4. Scroll down in the right-hand pane until you see the Data section, and click the pencil to edit it 5 Paste the contents of the file that is downloaded from the script and click the save button 6. View the map or app to make sure it looks as expected
