hi, realizing it's been a while... (we have most of our discussions on GitHub, but with GeoNet now open we'll monitor the questions here as well). have you been able to resolve this issue? have you checked the port of the smtp server and verified if a username/password are needed to send an email?

it is definitely 'by design'. see com.esri.gpt.control.georss getValidMinX-like methods. perhaps something to change. there is not such a thing as a 'null geometry' from what I can see on GeoRSS, so better would be to omit the entire georss:polygon element when there is no geometry in a record. if this happens with ArcGIS items, check the ags-toDC.xslt as there is a default extent assigned there upon publishing.

after you have your python script generating the metadata, you can use the desktop publication add-in to publish the metadata to a geoportal server using the Geoportal Publish Client downloadable from GitHub

Yes! You can extend the harvester as explained in this example: Extending the Web Harvester · Esri/geoportal-server Wiki · GitHub Using for example apache tika you could get the document information from various file types. you would generate metadata for these docs yourself in your preferred profile (question 2). I've been using Dublin Core as there typically is only limited information available when indexing docs. I have some code that indexes docs that I could post on GitHub (question 3). Perhaps something to work on together?

hi, if you use ArcGIS Server with Portal for ArcGIS you can host all of the ArcGIS platform on your own servers. You might also be interested in using the ability of the JS API to create a map using a JSON object. the syntax of the JSON = the webmap syntax. You can retrieve the webmap JSON from an ArcGIS Online/Portal for ArcGIS webmap using the proper REST API call. cheers, Marten

hi Patrick, in order for an add-to-map to show up, the geoportal needs to recognize the result as a web service (ArcGIS REST or WMS or such). as a test, add the California Geoportal to your site. Then search for geology. the result 'CSMP_Geology' should have the add to map button. this would be a further customization of the federated search. you could insert some javascript that adds another option to the search function in the map viewer that then itself exposes the geoportal federated search.

in the geoportal server, the CSW profiles are focused on the various application profiles of CSW, such as ISO, Dublin Core, and ebRIM. we then have some variation based on versions (some namespaces changed) and brand (esri geoportal server, geonetwork, gi-cat, pycsw, etc). I had not heard of a 'geoserver csw'. can you share the URL? typically if there is a new profile, version, brand combination it requires some tweaking of one of the similar profiles to create the new flavor. in your case it appears the geoserver csw expects lowercase 'results' while the profile you selected submits uppercase 'RESULTS'.

Our summer intern Raghu is working on some algorithms that could help improve search results in Geoportal Server. One is term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) and the other is clustering of results. Attached is his presentation he gave at the sdi SIG at esriuc2014. Don't be surprised to see this show up in Geoportal Server sometime this fall. We'll let you know as we'll want your feedback.

I'm creating a group to use as the homepage gallery in my subscription where the items in that group are groups themselves. is it possible to have the items open in the same window as the ArcGIS Online homepage instead of a new browser tab? all the group links are in the same ArcGIS Online subscription.
