Hi, This forum is for ArcGIS Explorer rather than ArcExplorer. ArcGIS Explorer can use custom locator services published with ArcGIS Server - for more info see http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisexplorer/1500/en/firewall.htm#helplocation. Regards Mike

Brandon, Just as another option - you could consider using a Geometry Service for the intersect. If you have ArcGIS Server in house you could publish your own Geometry service, otherwise you could use one of the hosted services e.g. http://sampleserver3.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Geometry/GeometryServer. There's an Intersect operation on the Geometry Server which would give you the functionality you need (see http://sampleserver3.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/SDK/REST/index.html?intersect.html for more information). Plus there's a convenient SOAPConverter object in the Explorer API for convert Explorer geometries to SOAP geometries and vice versa. Regards Mike

Mark, Thanks for the clarification. I'm not aware of a planned addition to the list of countries for geocoding text files - however I will submit it as an enhancement request. Regards Mike

Mark, It could be down to the projection you're in when measuring - what projection are you using? There's a blog post about choosing the right coordinate system for measurements: http://blogs.esri.com/Dev/blogs/arcgisserver/archive/2010/03/05/Measuring-distances-and-areas-when-your-map-uses-the-Mercator-projection.aspx. One thing to be aware of is that in Explorer we always use a geodesic measurement to ensure we get the same result between 2D and 3D. I'm not aware of any fixes directly to the measure tools in Explorer 1500 - but it may be worth trying the newer version if you are able to upgrade. Regards Mike

Graeme, If your ArcGIS Desktop license is under maintenance I suggest contacting your local distributor (presumably ESRI Australia) for support with this issue. Regards Mike

Annemarie, You choose the coordinate system of the map via the ArcGIs Explorer button (top left) > Map Properties > 2D Coordinate System. Here you can also specify one or more transformations to use to reproject the layers in the map (i.e. one or more depending on how many layers you have with different coordinate systems). It is possible that ArcGIS Explorer will always request the WMS in the default WGS 1984 project then reproject locally as required, as opopsed to asking the service for a different projection. Regards Mike

Don, It's not possible to override the default viewpoint for new content - but once you have added some content to the map (Note, Layer, etc) you can update the viewpoint. 1. Add the content 2. Navigate to the desired viewpoint 3. Right click the content in ther Contents window > Properties > click Set Default Viewpoint Regards Mike

Hi Mark, You can use the Find tool to search for addresses anywhere in the world e.g. 101 Currie Street, Adelaide SA 5000. Or in some cases you don't even need a fully qualified address - for example typing just ESRI will take you to the ESRI offices in Redlands, California, USA. Regards Mike

Annemarie, You need to use ArcGIS Desktop (ArcView/ArcEditor/ArcInfo) to create a Layer File for the Raster Catalog. Then you can add that Layer File to ArcGIS Explorer. You will need to ensure all your rasters have a spatial reference defined. Regards Mike

Nicholas, Are you running version 1500? I just successfully tested the steps below - the path names of the data when Explorer had opened my custom configuration were "\\Kinesis\Data..." as expected. 1. Open Explorer 2. Add data via UNC (e.g. \\kinesis\Data\mountains.shp) 3. Save map 4. Create new configuration with App. Config. Manager 5. Specify custom map (\\Kinesis\Data\UNC_Map.nmf) 6. Save Configuration 7. Open Explorer 8. Set Configuration (\\Kinesis\Data\UNC_Configuration.ncfg) ...Ah... I just noticed you posted the answer whilst I was testing/replying. Cheers Mike

Ben, I'm glad you found the sample useful and are enjoying 1500. The new release does include the capability to perform identifies on map services but you might still prefer to stick with your Add-in with which you'll obviously have more contorl over the behaviour and user experience. And thanks for bug fix to my sample... admittedly I hadn't done much testing of with different services. Cheers Mike
