The SpaceNavigator is supported. You need to click the ArcGIS Explorer pearl/button > ArcGIS Options > Navigation then check the box to "enable 3D navigation devices". Please see http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisexplorer/1200//en/options_navigation.htm for more information. You may need to adjust the settings for your navigation device to achieve the desired experience. Regards Mike

Patrick, ArcGIS Explorer 1200 is built to work with ArcGIS 9.3.1 and is not guaranteed to be forwards compatible with ArcGIS 10.0. There will be a new release of ArcGIS Explorer around the same time as ArcGIS 10.0 is released which will support ArcGIS 10.0. Regards Mike

Mary, Within the current API there is no way to create a new FeatureLayer. However - there may be other alternatives here: 1. Is the OOTB GP support (via the Analysis Gallery) sufficient for your GP service / requirements? 2. Create Notes (or Folders of Notes) to represent the features being returned from your GP Service. 3. In ArcGIS 10 there's a new GP tool called "Package Layer" which you could add at the end of your GP Model to export a Layer Package of the results then programmatically down that and add to Explorer via the API. 4. Again in ArcGIS 10 - ArcGIS Server this time - there's a new option to request GP Service output results as a Layer Package. So 2 is probably the best way forwards for you in the current Explorer 1200 API with ArcGIS 9.X. Regards Mike

Hi, Due to the graphics intensive nature of ArcGIS Explorer it will not run in a remote desktop session and you are unlikely to get a good user experience running it over other remote display technologies such as Citrix or WTS. If installing the application directly on end user's machine is not an option but they are always online you could consider looking out for the forthcoming ArcGIS Explorer Online mentioned in this blog post: http://blogs.esri.com/Info/blogs/arcgisexplorerblog/archive/2010/02/18/new-releases-of-arcgis-explorer-and-arcgis-explorer-online-at-feduc.aspx and as seen at the recent Dev Summit. Martin, I would suggest taking a look at the system requirements for ArcGIS Explorer on http://wikis.esri.com/wiki/display/agxpsr/ArcGIS+Explorer+System+Requirements. From this page there is also a link to an automated system requirements checker (current version: http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/1186/10895). If the machine in question meets the minimum/recommended spec then I would suggest updating the graphics card drivers - a very large majority of running issues with ArcGIS Explorer have been resolved with updated drivers. Regards Mike

Further to my previous post please see this FAQ: http://arcgisonline.esri.com/help/help_Right.htm#CSHID=terms%2Fscreenshots.htm%23|StartTopic=content%2Fterms%2Fscreenshots.htm%23|SkinName=agos For screenshots of ArcGIS Online content, use the following guidelines: 1.Always include the credits in the screenshot. The attribution should be on or near the map or image. NOTE: If the credits note that the content is from ESRI and/or Bing Maps (formerly Microsoft Virtual Earth), see the guidelines regarding ESRI/content and/or Bing Maps content below. 2.Check the Access and Use constraints field of the item properties to see if you can reproduce the content as an image and what attribution is required. ESRI content and/or Bing Maps content Screenshot use of ESRI content and/or Bing Maps (formerly Microsoft® Virtual Earth) content is by ESRI written permission only. Please fill out the Copyright Information or Permissions form for permission. The exception is that you may include screenshots from ArcGIS in printed or digital reports and Powerpoint presentations for colleagues, subsidiaries, and customers, where the ArcGIS output comprises less than ten percent (10%) of the total printed or digital report or less than ten percent of a Powerpoint presentation. Your customers may only use the screenshots from ArcGIS received from you for internal purposes. You may not alter the screenshot in any way except to resize the screenshot. Your use of the screenshot(s) may not be obscene or pornographic, and you may not be disparaging, defamatory, or libelous to ESRI or Microsoft®, or any ESRI or Microsoft products, or any other person or entity. You may not directly or indirectly imply ESRI or Microsoft sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement of your product or service. You must also follow all of the other requirements related to screenshots set forth herein. Full, complete, stand-alone maps created from ESRI content and/or Bing Maps content cannot be resold, sublicensed, or otherwise transferred without prior, written permission of ESRI. You must faithfully reproduce any notes on the map in addition to the map. This means you must include any copyright attribution notices, logos, or other notes included on the map. To be in compliance, the screenshot should include the entire map within an application, but you do not need to include any of the application frames, toolbars, or table of contents. When using ArcGIS Explorer, you must include both the ESRI copyright notice and the "Featuring" box. When using Bing Maps, you must include both the Bing Maps Logo and the copyright notice(s). NOTE: In ArcGIS Explorer, use the Copy to Clipboard command to copy (then paste) an image that includes all the credits. For more information, see Copy to Clipboard in ArcGIS Explorer Help. As both .NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 have just been officially released we will be considering moving up the .NET minimum requirement from .NET 2 and looking into adding a VS 2010 SDK for the next release of Explorer. Unfortunately, as with any future release dates, I cannot give any timescale for this at the moment. Your interest has been noted though, thanks. Regards Mike

Margo, The field name/type requirements will the same as for shapefiles/DBFs when working with these formats in ArcGIS. Generally this means: - No spaces in the field name - Alphanumeric characters only It looks like in you example below one of the join fields might have a space? Try removing that space and retry the join. Regards Mike

Hi, Unfortunately Event Layers are not supported directly in ArcGIS Explorer. The alternative is to create a Layer Package of your Event Layer within ArcMap then use that within ArcGIS Explorer. However this will make a physical spatial dataset (e.g. a File GDB Feature Class) within the Layer Package which is then read by ArcGIS Explorer - it will not be reading the original table. If you feel direct support for XY Event layers should be available in ArcGIS Explorer you can suggest the idea at ArcGIS Ideas: https://c.na1.visual.force.com/apex/ideaList?category=ArcGIS+Explorer Regards Mike P.S. If you??re replying to posts on the new ArcGIS forums and by default want to be alerted to activity via email you can set this in the settings section: http://forums.arcgis.com/profile.php?do=editoptions (you??ll need to sign in) scroll down to ??Messaging and Notification?. Otherwise you'll need to choose it from the options below the text editor each time you're posting some content.

Unfortunately I suspect there won't be a clear answer here one way or the other. It is likely to depend on what Basemap / ArcGIS Online / other services data you have in your map and the various terms of use for each of those individual layers/services. The terms of use for ArcGIS content can be found here: http://www.esri.com/legal/licensing/termsofuse.html. If you're happy your Add-Ins complies with those terms of use (regarding Bing Basemaps, ArcGIS Online, etc) then you could post the Add-In with a warning to users that they should check the terms of use of any map content prior to exporting to KML. Ultimately it's just a georeferenced image but some data companies are surprisingly concerned about screen-scraping and vectorisation and it could easily break their terms and conditions. I hope that gives you some guidance. Regards Mike

A few things to look at? - Check the coordinate system of your raster in ArcCatalog: does it have one defined? If so, and it's not one of the core coord systems you might need to download the Projection Engine Expansion Pack for ArcGIS Explorer: http://resources.esri.com/arcgisexplorer/1200/index.cfm?fa=download - If the above doesn't work you may need to create a Layer File of your raster in ArcMap and add that to Explorer. - If that doesnt work try creating a Layer Package of your raster in ArcMap and adding that to Explorer. If none of the above helps and if you are able to attach a sample of the raster you are using I will take a look here. Regards Mike

Gabe, A Google search suggest this issue is causing many people problems from a vareity of web applications. One possible route you could explore is using JavaScript within the HTML in the Note popup in ArcGIS Explorer. There's an article here: http://www.whirlywiryweb.com/q/officedocs.asp. I did give it a try and ran into further issues but with some persistance you may be able to find a way through this. Regards Mike

Amy, Thanks for the alert - I'll pass this on to the ArcGIS Online team. As you'll know the labels are all autogenerated based on the underlying vector data, which may be sourced from one or more companies, so if we are able to request corrections it might take a little time to filter through the system back into our service. Can you tell me exactly which basemap / ArcGIS Online service you are using? (the Basemap is listed in the Contents window). Regards Mike

Fabio, RE: Problem with 3D: Sorry to here you are having problems in 3D. Is there an error report generated? (if so it will be in C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\ErrorReports). RE: Proxy Server: If your organisation has proxy server then you can enter that information in ArcGIS Explorer (see http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisexplorer/1500//en/proxy_server_settings.htm for more information). If you organisation has a firewall that is preventing access to the basemaps/ArcGIS Online then unfortunately there is no way round that and you will need to create all your content on your internal ArcGIS Server. Regards Mike
