Yes like @KristianEkenes mentioned, if you can provide us a repro, we can take a look. I'm not aware of why it would be making more requests, all of the layers are AGOL hosted?

Also I don't believe spatial reference and what not gets encoded into VT payloads to begin with. That's in contrast to Feature Tiles where the transformation does actually get encoded into the FetaureSet pbf payload. arcgis-pbf/FeatureCollection.proto at main · Esri/arcgis-pbf (github.com)

Sorry @JINANYI, that's probably as far as I can dive into this ... I think georeferencing in this context is probably something specific to GDAL -- e.g., maybe you can add an image and map vector tiles onto it.

Whoops didn't see your response @JINANYI. These forums get a little borked when reply chains get long. I posted above what I think the reason is.

Bit of a rabbit hole - never used R before. But it looks like the sf library uses GDAL, and the MVT driver for GDAL appears to flip the y on decoding: gdal/ogrmvtdataset.cpp at master · OSGeo/gdal (github.com) Are you seeing any difference between how mbox and esri vtls are handled, and that's causing this question?

Ok I think I see what you are asking. Basically you are wondering why you don't need to flip the y coordinate of the geometries parsed by the st_read method of the R library you are using?

@JINANYI not sure that I understand your repro. The coordinates after you convert them back to map space have positive y up? That would be expected. Positive y being downward is only in tile coordinate space (0-4096 for VectorTiles).

Hi @RyanSutcliffe. Hmm, a MapServer taking 30+ seconds to respond to a count query definitely would cause an issue with the snapshot logic. Would like to take a look at the service and see what's going on. I take it that if you have millions of records, you are probably using a definitionExpression? If a count query without a definitionExpression is massively faster for large MapServer datasets, we potentially may need to add a special path for MapServer to avoid querying the count with it. You can currently disable the snapshot logic with the featurelayer-snapshot-enabled flag. See Disable snapshot (codepen.io). I would highly recommend adding some kind of cache in front of the service though when you have millions of records.

Hi @JINANYI, we release the FeatureTile Pbf spec here: https://github.com/Esri/arcgis-pbf. The VTL encoding we use is the same as mapbox/vector-tile-spec: Mapbox Vector Tile specification (github.com) Basically what you will want to do is pull in some pbf parsing library which will then parse the format verbatim. After that, take a look at vector-tile-spec/README.md at master · mapbox/vector-tile-spec (github.com) to see what the properties of the tile mean. I.e., the geometry encoding for mapbox uses command integers that you need to decode what operation is happening.

No problem! As for deconflictionStrategy, we're trying to sync up with the rest of the platform on this, so depending on that investigation it may or may not behave as it does in 4.19 or 4.21. I completely see the usefulness of the 4.19 behavior though and will try and see if we can get back to this in some way (worst case hopefully via some slightly different API).

Hi Tony, the behavior for deconflictionStrategy in 4.19 affecting the collision of other layers wasn't the intended behavior... the intended behavior is that it was supposed to be "removed" from the collision detection all-together and always show labels, but you bring up a good point, and I can see the use case. Are you able to avoid using deconflictionStrategy=none for featureReduction? Are you using it because you have a bunch of clusters that are close to each other? E.g., can you do this: https://codepen.io/matt9222/pen/Rwgvwjw?editors=1000 PS: In 4.20/4.21 we discovered an issue with the ordering of collisions with respect to multiple layers and are working on a fix for that now.

Hi Josh, unfortunately our line placement options for labels are a bit lacking at the moment -- it's something we've been wanting to address for a while, and I'm hoping we can get to it next release (4.22) or 4.23 at the latest. Near-term at a bare minimum we'd like to add support for controlling the spacing between line labels, improving line label collision detection, and add above/below & options for curved/uncurved.

@AmarG1I responded on that issue. I think that one's probably limited to applyEdits (and therefore slightly different), but I'll double check.
