Unable to run Web App builder dev edition as a Windows service error. Get a node package "winser" error: "No rights to manage services" I am an admin on my machine. What other rights do I need? I have latest version of node already installed on my machine. Is that a problem because WAB download has a older version of nodejs in it? Not sure how that is resolved.

How does one install multiple versions of web appbuilder developer edition on same windows machine? Only altering the node.js port startup number in startup.bat is not enough. Thanks Subu

Robert and Glen, Please refer to this geonet thread - Re: How do you get a date query to work? I was able to fix it by searching and removing the occurence of timestamp as shown below + (this.isHosted ? "" : "timestamp ") from the filterUtils.js file in the jims.js folder of your app. And I told Moxie about the date query bug at the UC. I was hoping it would get fixed soon in both in the online and the developer edition. Thanks Subu

Rebecca, Interesting that I do not even see Time Zone listed in ArcGIS Server 10.3.1. After version info, the next things is Supported Operations. Thanks Subu

Yes. I believe Portal is included with ArcGIS Server. But it does take over that ArcGIS Server instance completely if you want to use it as intended for maximum benefit. Somebody like Derek Law can explain that better - I get lost on the variations of federated vs not federated. Will cross that bridge if and when needed. I meant cost of ownership in terms of your investment in time and effort, IT manpower, hardware resources to run, patch, administer and maintain portal and not in terms of licensing. AGOL/the cloud does have an advantage on that front when doing more with less.

Michael, Portal is an option that we have considered. The advantages appear to be limited compared to the cost of ownership there. So we hesitate to go down that rabbit hole, Flex and Silverlight viewers and the associated API's were successful because they made the ArcGIS Server investment more valuable and increased return on investment. I see great potential for Web App Builder developer edition and App Studio in that same vein of thought. Let me be very clear - I am not talking about the base JS API or the AGOL pushbutton options. I am talking about the viewer like Apps that can be customized by users easily such as web app builder developer edition, Configurable apps/template, all the various JS API samples esri creates as well as new products like AppStudio which are moving towards AGOL and being required to use it. I just expect more from esri compared to other large software technology companies. Maybe that is naive. Thanks Subu

Michael, As you mention, there are technical workarounds around AGOL. However this question to me is a more big picture roadmap of where the whole esri platform/ecosystem is going. If all or most development paths are going to lead only through AGOL, that is going to be painful to many users. I want AGOL to be an option but not be forced to use it. That includes app registration, web maps, named user model and all the rest of it. I would rather AGOL be an flexible option than a rigid constraint. Anecdotally, I felt a number of esri uc attendees agreed with me. I also know a lot of esri users cannot afford to go the UC and cannot chime in person to esri personnel. So this question is a call to that silent majority to see if they agree or not. Thanks Subu

Ryan, My organization and many others I met at the esri UC this year feel strongly that Web App builder developer edition, Configurable app templates should be able to function free of AGOL. NOTE: I am saying AGOL/using webmaps in products should definitely be possible and is an important option. However, Developers should also be able to use ArcGIS Server REST services directly. That should be a first class option. Bottom line: Use of ArcGIS Server REST services directly in all ESRI apps, samples and APIs should be a priority. REST services usage should be fully documented with samples, examples and supported as much as webmaps/AGOL. ESRI Customers who pay for ArcGIS Server are feeling shortchanged. They have paid for that product and should get full support for using it as they see fit. Please also note we are also using AGOL heavily and really appreciate the effort that esri has put into it and see it as a very important option rather than the only way of doing things. If others support this thought process, please chime in. Thanks Subu

Michael, Not very clear documentation from esri on this. For what I was trying to do, I commented out this line from Robert's response -"template.preserveScale = false;" . So went with the default there and then my code worked as I wanted. If you print the outScale (template.outScale) to your browser console, you will see that the value printed is a map scale - 100,000 from 1:100,000 etc. But Setting the outScale parameter did not work from me - I was trying to set it to actual map scale and not layout or map units.

I second Paige Lester's opinion. Many bugs are basic ones and should have been caught before such updates got rolled out. Such buggy updates with so called new features are very disruptive in a production data collection environment during the peak summer season for field data collection. Also announcing a July update very late in June is not good enough. A specific date and time has to be announced. AGOL definitely slows down and becomes unusable during such updates. After AGOL and WAB update, production apps have to be tested to see if existing functionality works as expected and if old bugs have been fixed. Even such a release date gets moved for some reason, that is OK. Most AGOL admins will appreciate the scheduling.

Robert, I am still seeing the same error in esearch 1.1.8 + WAB 1.1. The word timestamp as explained in this thread (Re: How do you get a date query to work? ) appears to be source of the problem. I am using ArcGIS Server 10.2.2 so maybe that has something to do with this? Thanks Subu
