Joe, What version of ArcMap including service packs (if any) do you have installed on the machines that exhibit the empty basemap gallery? ArcGIS Explorer desktop 2500 should work in conjunction with with any version of ArcGIS Desktop installed or not installed on the machine.  That said, we may have missed a conflict. (ArcGIS Explorer desktop 2500 should not be used on a machine that has previous version of ArcGIS Explorer desktop installed, the cache files will clash, ("invalid layer in basemap" message is a sign of this, delete cache and use only one version of explorer to resolve... if you see this message.  Or if for some reason the connection to http://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services  is broken you will also see this message.) When you start ArcGIS Explorer you should see an ArcGISConnectionBin.exe start up.  You should see this listed in the task manager processes.  You will also see this in the system tray, and the status should say "Connected to ArcGIS online" or if you are using a portal or signed into an ArcGIS online subscription it will connect to those on start. [ATTACH=CONFIG]21817[/ATTACH] I assume that all of these computer are on the same network, since some of the computers work, we can likely rule out a network setting that would be blocking connection. What is the status of your ArcGIS connection on the computers that do not work?  Is the ArcGISConnectionBin.exe even running? For the "no default map" issue: On the machine that does not show a default map on start, if you click "New" on the file menu, do you get a default map? Sveinung, I sounds like you are encountering two issues. 1.  The locator you are using crashes when added. 2. Searching for a Place using ArcGIS online finds the place, but does not correctly zoom to it. Harry,  I checked with the data team and the ArcGIS Explorer 1750 bing key will not expire until September. Tom,  you are not alone.  We want it released and many others have sent me e-mails with similar sentiments. Nick,  The ArcGIS Eplorer user community is large and demanding and we are trying to meet the needs and expecations of as many users as possible.
