Tom, Something you could try... this is not something I have reproduced and know for sure. I think if you use the layer file that you saved from ArcGlobe, back in ArcScene and then just add more turbines to it and save the layer file from ArcScene, it will still retain the globe property (properties?) that ArcGIS Explorer needs to display it as desired. This would allow you to skip the step of opening it in ArcGlobe. Again, I am not positive this will work, but it may be worth a try. Mark

I probably did not write a clear enough post. Set your region to France in your ArcGIS.com profile as a work around to this problem and sign in with the same free arcgis online account in ArcGIS Explorer. If you have an organizational subscription ArcGIS Explorer will work correctly in regards to basemaps and default map. When your region is set to United States or you are not signed in to ArcGIS online, the ArcGIS Explorer basemaps will not display in the gallery and the defaultmap (if you do not have your own saved) will not display. I am working with the ArcGIS online team to address this issue, but it is taking longer than expected to resolve. Thanks for your patience, Mark

Susanna, Sorry about the confusion. You are correct. With my personal account it works, because I had been testing regions in my ArcGIS.com (ArcGIS online) profile, and I had set my region to France. I need to confirm with the online team but I suspect when language is set to English and region is set to France (likely other regions) the ArcGIS online platform does not return a "basemap group" when ArcGIS Explorer "asks" for it... Or so far there is only a basemap group defined for region "United States" in the ArcGIS online platform. With your personal account profile, If you set region to France, and then sign in through ArcGIS Explorer, see if that works. This is just a workaround idea for now, the ArcGIS Explorer team and Online team need to get coordinated in regards to the basemap group provided by the ArcGIS platform when using a personal account or not signed in. In regards to adding from ArcGIS online we added "Search ArcGIS online" button on the home tab which replaces the add from ArcGIS online functionality in version 2500. -Mark

As of March 21st the update to ArcGIS online did make a change that ArcGIS Explorer was not programmed to cope with. When you are signed into ArcGIS online or an ArcGIS online organization ArcGIS Explorer Desktop will correctly use the defaultmap, basemaps and layer gallery items specified by the organization or from the "ArcGIS Explorer Desktop basemap and layers group". When you are not signed in to ArcGIS online (which is the default), the online system (api) directs ArcGIS Explorer to a group, that does not contain ArcGIS Explorer content. This is a change from the previous version of ArcGIS online where the basemap group was only provided by ArcGIS online if you were signed in. I am currently working with the team to remedy this issue as soon as possible. So another immediate work-around for this issue, is to get an ArcGIS online account,(https://www.arcgis.com/home/signin.html?) and from the ArcGIS Explorer file menu, sign in. Mark

Greg, What kind of computer is it? Make OS Graphics card What type of install... All users or just for current user? <-- its a question during the install. Am I correct in assuming that no other version of ArcGIS Explorer had ever been installed on this computer? On win8 we have seen where the first ever start is a bit wonky, but subsequent starts work out OK. Mark

~All I see is a black window for the basemap display...~ Thank you, Celia If it is a black display in 2D, the graphics card driver should be checked, and updated if possible. The first thing to do is find out what graphics card you have. the system check http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri_if/1186/10895 will report the graphics card. The next thing to try is finding a driver for the graphics card that may resolve the problem. Often this just means getting the newest driver for the card. From the change appearance of your display dialog click "Advanced Settings" and take a look at the properties for you graphics card. Once you have determined what graphics card you have and driver, look at the computer makers website (HP, Dell, Toshiba, etc..) to see if there is a new driver for the computer / card available from them. You can also try getting a driver directly from the graphics card makers web site (NVidia, ATI, Intel etc..). If you install a driver that makes things worse, don't panic, you can always start your computer in safe mode, go to the same dialog pictured above and roll back the driver. New drivers do not always solve the issue, but they often do. If you do find a driver that works, please share the information. Thanks, Mark

The next release of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop will be 10.2 and the timing of future releases will fall in-line with the ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) releases. The focus of the next release is maintaining compatibility with ArcGIS and fixing reported issues with functionality. mark

....In build 2500 it does not find coordinates at all - it only says "No results found. The place you typed can not be found." My last problem: When use the "Manage locators" under ArcGIS explorer options, ArcGIS explorer crashes immidiately if i try to choose one of the exixting locators. We have repro cases for this in house and will address for the next release. We have reproduced the find issue by changing language locale to one that use comma in place of decimal. The Find functionality is not handling this correctly. The crash with managing locators is reproducible on Windows 8 computers. The locators can be added and used (activate from the find doc window). To remove a locator, using windows explorer navigate to your %AppData%\Local\ESRI\ArcGIS Explorer\Locators folder and remove the file. -Mark

Joe, So far the only way I have been able to reproduce your situation is to disconnect my computer from the internet. On the computer that fails to load basemaps, are you able to get the information back in a webbrowser using this URL: http://www.arcgis.com/arcgisuris.xml The information in this .xml file is what ArcGISConnection uses to determine if there is a connection, an then points ArcGIS Explorer to the appropriate sources for information. -mark
