Not exactly sure why the ID and Date fields do not show. But you can still type them into the "Select features where..." text box. For example to select a date you can use. datefield = date '1903-08-23' <name of your date field> = date 'yyyy-mm-dd' -mark

The connection URL for ArcCatalog would be: http://services2.arcgis.com/<idnumber>/arcgis ArcGIS Explorer Desktop can not connect directly to the hosted server and does not support feature services. There is support for adding webmaps from an organization, by using Search, but keep in mind that feature services in web maps will not display in ArcGIS Explorer. Mark

It sounds like the ArcGISConnectionBin.exe is not running correctly. This is known to be a problem with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 10. Some have found that they can resolve the issue by un-checking 'Automatically detect setings' in Internet Explorer Options - Connections tab - Lan Settings. Others have had to work with their IT department to make adjustments to Proxy Server settings. So far we have not heard of anyone having this issue with Windows 8. graphic explanation of the above: updated with image -mark

There seems to be an issue with the ArcGIS online website in regards to accessing ArcGIS Explorer Desktop content at this time. You can still access and use ArcGIS online through the sharing and search functionality built into ArcGIS Explorer Destkop 2500. Mark

The setup.exe as part of the download does not recognize 8.1, but you can install by using the .msi in the download folder. The download folder is in your temp folder.. if you downloaded the setup. You can also copy the install folder of ArcGIS Explorer desktop and all files from a computer that you have installed on, to an 8.1 machine, set your own shortcut to the e3.exe, and run ArcGIS Explorer desktop on 8.1 as well. This would be the same as the process for running ArcGIS Explorer desktop from a USB drive. The next version of ArcGIS Explorer desktop setup.exe will install on Windows 8.1 Mark

For the data created by ArcGIS Explorer the attributes are there, but condensed into one string in the popup field, so not ideal if you are after the attributes by field.
