We will actually be working this fall to incorporate this new search functionality in all of the Javascript apps. The new search functionality will include: autocomplete, rooftop geocoding, UI changes, content changes (ex. remove commas from address and better sample addresses) and we're also looking in to the ability to add your own locators. Our goal is to ship these updates in the January release. If you have other suggestions for the search functionality, we'd be glad to consider it.

We are providing detailed release notes with each release of the local government information model and I would use these to guide your strategy. I would not think about the quarterly releases as a ??compliance issue?. Rather, I would review the maps and apps provided in the solution and decide which maps and apps you'd like to deploy and use that as a way to determine when/if you upgrade the information model. We are not providing an upgrade wizard per se. But, we are teaching users how to use subsequent releases of each schema and an Add-in called Xray for ArcCatalog to determine what changes exist (ex. compare your current schema to the new Local Government Information Model) and create a new schema that reflects the changes you??d like to make. Then you can create a new schema and work it through your dev, staging, QA and production deployment approach.

We recently got a question and thought it might be valuable to post it on the forum: "We are moving our CAD based mapping to the ESRI Local Government Information model. This process is well underway and I'm trying to get a handle on how we are going to manage change going forward. What is the general approach to releasing ESRI Local Government Information Model changes going forward. Can I expect to see upgrade wizards sort of like we see when a new release of a geodatabase comes out with a new release of ArcGIS? I need to get a handle on how we are going to keep our 300+ LGIM compliant municipal clients, which will likely have data model customizations. current as updates are made to the LGIM by ESRI."

Just want to add a bit of clarity. Other parts of the ArcGIS for Local Government solution do not require ArcGIS Online, but in this case, the Maps and Apps Gallery does require ArcGIS Online. The Gallery leverages an ArcGIS Online Group to catalog the items and store comments submitted by users. Please refer to the help document for more information.

James - The cleanest way to upgrade is as follows: 1. Uninstall the add-ins (Add-in Manager) and construction tools (Control Panel>Programs) before you upgrade to ArcGIS 10.1. 2. Upgrade to ArcGIS 10.1 3. Install the AddressManagement and Attribute Assistant Add-ins for ArcGIS 10.1. The construction tools are provided in the Add-in at the 10.1 release and there isn't a separate install for the construction tools now. Hope this helps. Scott

David - Thanks Jeff for hitting most of the key points. Let me just add a few more things. First, interacting with stacked polygons is much easier with the out of the box clients and APIs. A simple mouse click or query will return all the records you're interested in and you don't have to write code to query related records, handle condos uniquely, etc. In addition, you'll probably also want to also merge property attributes from your CAMA and Tax systems when you publish your parcel geometry. Then you can quickly leverage those in information popups and other apps we have in the ArcGIS for Local Government solution (Tax Parcel Viewer, Public Notification, Value Dashboard, etc.). So, typically most local governments extract data from these systems on a regular basis and merge it with their parcel publishing (geometry) process and end up with a set of features much like we have in the Parcel Publishing feature dataset. Hope this helps. Scott

Tom - You could enter in the street name multiple times in the Master Street Name table and populate the unique jurisdiction for each record. Then change the Validate_Attribute_Lookup Attribute Assistant rule in the Dynamic Value table to check for the name of jurisdiction when looking for a proper street name. The street name is not a primary key in the Address Editing Map. Its just used to populate the proper road name on the Road Centerline and Site Address features. Scott

Leitha - At 10.1, we consolidated the XML workspace document, data dictionary and release notes in to a single download. Here is a link to the download. Download the 10.1 model and take a look at the Release Notes. You'll notice there were a few changes we made after the last 10.0 release. In particular, we renamed the land records domains and also added several domains to support parcel editing workflows and the fabric data model at the 10.1 release. Let me try to address your questions on the address parts of the model: 1. FULLADDR should be used to store a fully concatenated address. You'll have to configure this for your community but it could potentially include the following fields: PREADDRNUM, ADDRNUM, ADDRNUMSUF, FULLNAME, UNITTYPE, UNITID, ALTUNITTYPE, and ALTUNITID. Take a look at each of these fields and determine which ones are valid in your community. For example, you may not have Address Number Prefixes and Suffixes. We'll update the definition in future releases of the model so this is clearer. 2. Yes, the address unit number would go there. For example 100 N Main Suite <UNITTYPE> 100 <UNITID>. You don't have to populate the UNITID if one isn't called for. So if you select LOWER as a UNITTYPE, you may just leave the UNITID blank. Hope this provides a bit more clarity and thanks for the feedback. Scott

We have shared a series of best practices for condos in the Local Government Information Model. In your editing model, we would suggest you track the condo units in a related table and as you publish your parcel data you'll stack the condo polygons and associate the tax and assessment attributes with a unique polygon in your TaxParcelPublishing feature class. You can find more information about this topic in the Tax Parcel Editing Map and Data Dictionary for the Local Government Information Model.

Beau - I would start with the maps and apps that add value to your organization and then use those prioritized maps and apps to guide your implementation of the Local Government Information Model. Here is a session we did at the Dev Summit this year - its a good overview on an implementation approach. There is a video of the session that goes along with http://proceedings.esri.com/library/userconf/devsummit12/papers/configuring_and_customizing_arcgis_for_local_government.pdf Scott

ericjonathansmith - Are you attempting to open the map document with an ArcEditor or ArcInfo licensed version of ArcMap? The Tax Parcel Editing Map contains the parcel fabric data type which is only supported at Editor and Info license levels. You will get an error when attempting to open the MPK and even map document without the appropriate license level.

Nick - We've deployed a template on the Local Government Resource Center that will help you organize easements (and other parcel types like subs, lots, PLSS, etc.) in the fabric. Here is a link to the template: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=9d5d357e7bf54c27878f3737ade128da. The key part of this design is a domain called parcel type and a series of layers in the ArcMap editing document derived from it. The parcel type domain allows you to interact with specific parcels (subs, lots, tax parcels and/or easements) and their related attributes in the map. You may want to track additional information about easements in your model and you can do that with extended attributes on the fabric. Hope this helps. Scott arcgisteamlocalgov@esri.com
