Hi All, As mentioned in my last post in July of 2016, the plan was (and still is) to have a beta of the new Utility Network on top of ArcGIS 10.5 and ArcGIS Pro 1.4. We are in the process of wrapping up that beta now and expect to have it available through the early adopter site (https://earlyadopter.esri.com/home.html) within a few weeks. To be eligible for the beta you will need to go through the apply process on the early adopter site once the beta is available. For more information on the Utility Network and the Network Management Project as a whole, you can download a white paper on the subject from this location: Esri Utility Network Pro. From this location you can also sign up to receive notification when the beta of the Utility Network is available. We are planning on the initial release of the Utility Network with ArcGIS 10.6 and ArcGIS Pro 2.1 at the end of 2017. At this point, there are no plans to support editing of the geometric network with ArcGIS Pro. The management of utility and telecom networks with ArcGIS Pro will be through the new Utility Network once released. Larry Young Esri Product Management

I would assume at this point there will not be a direct way to transfer rules over. Understandably, it would be a nice thing to have, but until we get further into the development of Attribute Rules and really understand the required syntax of the expressions, it is hard to say how easy it would be to create something.

Hi Jeffrey, Generation of sequence numbers/expressions is something in the plans for Attribute Rules. How you configure and work with Attribute Rules will be different than what you are used to with Attribute Assistant due to many different reasons including the need to be cross platform. With Attribute Rules everything will be based on expressions that the user defines as part of the setup/configuration process. Long story short, GenerateID tables will be replaced with expressions defined by the user. larry

Hi Kirstyn, Functionality similar to the Attribute Assistant is being worked on for ArcGIS Pro, but it is not yet been released. The functionality is called Attribute Rules and it will make use of the new Arcade scripting language to allow users to define rules/scripts to be executed while features are being edited. The current plan is to release the first implementation of Attribute Rules with the 2.0 release of ArcGIS Pro. Larry

Hi Andrew, What the water toolset in ArcMap has is a custom tool to create the configuration of features that you describe. The tool works well with the geometric network and the data model being used for the water solution. In ArcGIS Pro, Group Templates are a configurable way for users to add many features with a single sketch. We've discussed adding capabilities to allow authors of templates to define that lines snapped to should be split, etc., but we've not yet come up with a good implementation for that within a generic editor. When working with features from a Network Dataset (transportation networks), you can define that roads automatically split when you snap another road to it, however. For water networks, the bulk of the functionality you are after will come with the Utility Network and a release of ArcGIS Pro later this year. Larry

Hi Mike, Wow, that post of mine from March, 2015 is a little depressing. Reminds me of how far behind we are with this project. As presented at the UC in San Diego last week (and at various other conferences), we are working on new technology called the utility network. The utility network is part of a larger project referred to as the network management project. The vision for this project has two main components. The first is to make the capabilities of the network available across the entire platform. This means you would be able to view, query, edit, and trace regardless of whether you are on the desktop, a mobile device, or the web. The second component is to provide the ability for a better real world representation of what is on the ground within the GIS. The main purpose of that is to allow better analysis directly within the GIS and to make it easier to move data into other mission critical systems such as OMS, DMS, modeling packages, etc. The utility network and other components of the network management project are currently scheduled to go into beta later this year on top of ArcGIS 10.5 and ArcGIS Pro 1.4. The first release would follow next year on top of the next releases of ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro. The initial client for the utility network will be ArcGIS Pro, but all of the capabilities will be delivered through services, so mobile and web support will follow. To be clear, support for editing and tracing of the geometric network will continue within ArcMap. Support for the utility network (editing, tracing, etc.) on desktop will be through ArcGIS Pro. Hopefully that answers your question. thanks, larry

Hosted services within ArcGIS Online do not support geometric networks. Only simple features are currently supported with ArcGIS Online. In your example, moving the manholes would not result in movement of the gravity mains. We recognize this as a limitation, and are currently working on improving the capabilities of network data to allow for appropriate behavior (such as moving connected features) across the platform. larry

Hi Travis, Thanks for your feedback and for editing with ArcGIS Pro. We started with the basic editing functionality in ArcGIS Pro for both 2D and 3D, adding additional capabilities around templates and some other areas. Advanced editing functionality is something we've not had the chance to get to yet. We will be adding shared edge editing and align to shape with the 1.2 release, but i'm afraid smoothing capabilities are still at least one more release away. I assure it is coming, it is just a matter of fitting it into the schedule. Thanks, larry

Kevin & Jakub, Sorry you are both having issues with snapping. As Sean mentioned, we have fixed some things for the 1.1 version that should be release soon. We are confident the update will fix your issues related to snapping. Kevin, you mentioned many missing tools and functions in ArcGIS Pro. We are always looking to users for guidance in how to prioritize our work for the next release. What are the top items you feel are missing from the editing environment in ArcGIS Pro? Thanks, larry

Hi Robert, You can view and query geometric networks within ArcGIS Pro as you probably know, but you cannot edit or trace against them. We are working on these capabilities for a future release of ArcGIS Pro. Our target at this is the fall release of ArcGIS Pro or 1.2. As ArcGIS Pro is a new application with many new concepts for working with your data, we are also exploring new ways for managing networks. More information on our plans for working with networks in ArcGIS Pro will be made available in the coming months. Thanks, Larry Young Esri Product Management

As Sean indicated, topology is something that we do have in the plans for a future release of ArcGIS Pro. There are currently two additional releases of ArcGIS Pro planned for 2015. We will not be adding any additional support for shared edge editing or working with geodatabase topologies in the next release. Specific plans for the release after that are still being worked out. What aspect of topologies are you must interested in seeing supported in ArcGIS Pro? Shared edge editing or error checking with geodatabase topologies? thanks, larry

Hi Robert, No, there is not support for editing or tracing against a geometric network with the first release of ArcGIS Pro. You can see and query the network layers, but that is it. We are working on expanding the capabilities for modeling utility and telecom networks and plan on making that available in a future release of ArcGIS Pro. Thanks, larry

Tiffany, When was the last time you downloaded the Parcel Add-Ins from the resource center? There was a problem with the code a few months back, but it has been fixed and a new version loaded. Download the Tax Parcel Editing Template and pull out the new version of the Parcel Add-In from the Application directory. The problem with the Load Traverse from file code is fixed in the latest download larry "Load Traverse from file" crashes ArcMap every time! This is an add-in called Parcel Fabric Utilities and can be found with the Tax Parcel Editing Template for 10. Although I found a report of this issue in the blog: http://blogs.esri.com/dev/blogs/localgovernment/archive/2010/07/28/parcel-editor-add_2d00_in-enhances-parcel-management-in-arcgis-10.aspx I have not been able to find a solution. I have logged the incident with tech support. So far I have recreated the normal.mxt, Esri folder in my user profile, and the registry key. I will post update when I have one.
