Hi Mike, Sorry you are running into issues. The timeout problem mentioned at the beginning of this thread is one we have encountered before with solutions/workarounds including the one that Amir outlines for increasing the time out. Pro should never crash, though, so for that alone we would ask that you enter an issue with support. They will presumably need to get a copy of your database and some information on which version(s) you have tried to reconcile/post without success. We are always working on improving the performance of all aspects of the software including rec/post. It should be possible to reconcile and post a version with a 1000+ edits, so would be important for us to see what is going on in your case. Thanks, larry

While Pro 2.6 can work with utility networks created with previous versions of Enterprise, you do need Enterprise 10.8.1 in order to create a new network with ArcGIS Pro 2.6. These two help topics explain the relationship between ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise and the version of the utility network that is created: Utility network upgrade history—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation Utility network dataset administration—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation The error message you received is incorrect and we are working on addressing that, but you will need ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 in order to create a utility network with ArcGIS Pro 2.6. The alternative is to use ArcGIS Pro 2.5 to create an earlier version of the utility network (a version 3 utility network) in your Enterprise 10.7.1 environment, and then you can work with it in Pro 2.6.

Following up more on this ... Please see the help here: Utility network dataset administration—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation We try hard not to increment the version of the utility network, but the gist of this documentation is that ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 is required to create new networks with Pro 2.6 due to an upgrade of the utility network. At this stage of the development of the utility network it is sometimes necessary to increment the version of the network. With this release we had a significant change with the addition of nonspatial object tables (edge and junction objects) to the model. ArcGIS Enterprise versions prior to 10.8.1 have no knowledge of these changes and therefore cannot support the current version (version 4) of the network. You can still use Pro 2.6 to work with existing networks in earlier versions of ArcGIS Enterprise, but you will need to move forward to 10.8.1 in order to create a new network with Pro 2.6. You can still create new networks with earlier versions of ArcGIS Enterprise by using earlier versions of Pro as you did. Once created, Pro 2.6 can be used to maintain the network. The logic here is to maintain consistency with file geodatabase versions of the utility network. If you use Pro 2.6 to create a new utility network in a file geodatabase it will be a version 4 network supporting nonspatial objects. In order to support the same with multi-user geodatabases, ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 is required. What we do need to do is update the error/warning message because you should not have been told there was a licensing issue.

Thanks for pointing out the issue. We've reproduced it in house and will get a fix out as soon as we can. As you noted, the work around for now is to use an earlier version of Pro to create the network and then you can move forward. Thanks, larry

Hi Ryan, Exporting and importing an asset package is the current way to move utility networks from one geodatabase to another. We are working on copy/paste capabilities, but do not expect them to be available for another release or two. Sorry for the inconvenience. Larry

Hi Andrew, Have you looked at creating a Table template for the Conductor Info record(s) and then using the Relationship tab for the Transmission Line template to define the number of related records to add when you sketch a new Transmission Line feature? I believe the help topic here: Feature templates—ArcGIS Pro | Documentation (scroll down to the Table template section) addresses what you want to do. larry

Hi Rhett, That is actually one of the issues we do have on the list to put out as a 10.6.1 UTUP patch. We are in the middle of finishing up a bounce back patch for 10.2.1 as well as the ArcGIS Pro 2.5 and Enterprise 10.8 releases, though, so a little backup at the moment. Hoping to get the 10.6.1 patch out by the end of the year. Sorry to keep you waiting on this. Have you talked to your account rep about putting in a hot fix request for you? thanks, larry

Hi Rhett, Yes, ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 is the next Utility Release. We are in the process of gathering potential utility specific issues for a patch to 10.6.1, but the list of issues is currently relatively small. There are also general patches to 10.6.1 that have come out. Are you looking for a fix for a specific issue? thanks, larry

Hi Joe, We are in the process of working on the performance of validate topology and anticipate having updates available with the ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8 release as well as through a patch to Enterprise 10.7 and possibly 10.7.1. The fixes we are working on are related to running validate topology when there are existing errors within the extent being validated. Have you created an incident with tech support? If not, then you should do this as it might be necessary to get your data to ensure your issue is similar to ones we are already testing and working against. Thanks, larry

Hi Brian, We are working on adding the ability to show flow direction based on source (or sink) information for a future release. The hope is to get it into Pro 2.4, but it could possibly slip to 2.5. Thanks, larry

Hi Robb, Thanks for your post. We are actually in the process of deciding how best to address the needs of smaller utilities as well as other non-utility users of the geometric network. Options such as providing AGOL support of the utility network are still a possibility, but a more timely solution for customers such as yourself will likely be single user network support through ArcGIS Pro. Apologies for not having a clear road map for all geometric network users sooner. The ArcMap solution for geometric networks is still a very viable approach, but we realize many users are anxious to move forward with ArcGIS Pro. Our focus has been on providing support for larger utilities that needed a more scalable solution with additional detailed modeling capabilities. We will continue this work, but will also add some focus to supporting smaller utilities and the non-utility user. More to come. Thanks, Larry Young Utility Network Program Manager

Thanks to all for the comments. No disagreement on the general sentiment. Making sure any changes you make (changing the name of an Asset Group/subtype, for instance) are rippled through all subnetwork definitions, rules, etc. is key. We continue to look at tools we may be able to add to help with this process. Hopefully more to come on that subject. As far as updating a model after it has been loaded from an asset package, this can definitely be accomplished through the core tools. The help topic on configuring a utility network is a good place to start in locating and understanding the different geoprocessing tools that are available to update a model: Configure a utility network—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop

Hi All, We've been getting a lot of feedback and comments on the Esri data models for the utility network. There's even a discussion here in GeoNet asking questions about missing fields within the UPDM 2018 model. I can't stress enough that the data models being released by Esri with the utility network (so far Electric, Gas, and Water models have been released) are meant to be starting points and not end all models. We fully expect and encourage business partners and end users to take our models and make changes based on the individual needs of the organization. We've gotten too many reports of users, distributors, and partners thinking they had to follow our data models to the letter and could not change them. This is not the case. The data models Esri puts out are meant to be modified and extended as needed. Feel free to add additional fields, subtypes, rules, etc. based on the needs of your organization. Going forward you will see data models released by our partners that take the original Esri produced models and extend them to meet the more advanced workflows the partner solution addresses. Another area where you will see partner involvement is with data models that Esri does not plan on providing a starting point for. The core software has the ability to create data models from scratch and partners (as well as some end users) will take this capability to create models for things such as district heating, stream networks, rail, etc. As you begin to look at, research, and perform proof of concept studies with the utility network, keep in mind that you can and should change the data models to meet your needs. Thanks, Larry Young Esri Product Managemen

Hi Chris, Thanks for the post and your inquiry. We have moved over the majority of editing capabilities from ArcMap into ArcGIS Pro and added many additional new capabilities. There are still a few things that we still need to add and Intersection and Midpoint happen to be two of them. These are on our list, but we've lately been concentrating on annotation, the utility network, and 3D editing. We will get to these tools, but probably not within the next release or two. thanks, larry

Hi Mike, The Utility Network is part of the greater Network Management project and is something new. The white paper referenced above can help to explain. Users will need to load their data into the Utility Network, you cannot just upgrade your existing geometric network. With the initial release we will provide some tools to help in the process of moving forward. The purpose of the Network Management project is to give utilities and telecoms technology to take them through the next 15+ years of asset management with ArcGIS. The Utility Network will give users the ability to view, query, edit, and analyze the network from any supported device, as well as support a better real world representation of what is on the ground within the GIS. The white paper outlines many of the other new capabilities you will have the Utility Network. ArcGIS Pro will be the first client for the utility network, with support through the runtime SDK, web APIs, mobile apps, etc., following in subsequent releases. Thanks, Larry
