Hi Rhett, Yes, ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 is the next Utility Release. We are in the process of gathering potential utility specific issues for a patch to 10.6.1, but the list of issues is currently relatively small. There are also general patches to 10.6.1 that have come out. Are you looking for a fix for a specific issue? thanks, larry

Hi Joe, We are in the process of working on the performance of validate topology and anticipate having updates available with the ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8 release as well as through a patch to Enterprise 10.7 and possibly 10.7.1. The fixes we are working on are related to running validate topology when there are existing errors within the extent being validated. Have you created an incident with tech support? If not, then you should do this as it might be necessary to get your data to ensure your issue is similar to ones we are already testing and working against. Thanks, larry

Hi Brian, We are working on adding the ability to show flow direction based on source (or sink) information for a future release. The hope is to get it into Pro 2.4, but it could possibly slip to 2.5. Thanks, larry

Hi Robb, Thanks for your post. We are actually in the process of deciding how best to address the needs of smaller utilities as well as other non-utility users of the geometric network. Options such as providing AGOL support of the utility network are still a possibility, but a more timely solution for customers such as yourself will likely be single user network support through ArcGIS Pro. Apologies for not having a clear road map for all geometric network users sooner. The ArcMap solution for geometric networks is still a very viable approach, but we realize many users are anxious to move forward with ArcGIS Pro. Our focus has been on providing support for larger utilities that needed a more scalable solution with additional detailed modeling capabilities. We will continue this work, but will also add some focus to supporting smaller utilities and the non-utility user. More to come. Thanks, Larry Young Utility Network Program Manager

Thanks to all for the comments. No disagreement on the general sentiment. Making sure any changes you make (changing the name of an Asset Group/subtype, for instance) are rippled through all subnetwork definitions, rules, etc. is key. We continue to look at tools we may be able to add to help with this process. Hopefully more to come on that subject. As far as updating a model after it has been loaded from an asset package, this can definitely be accomplished through the core tools. The help topic on configuring a utility network is a good place to start in locating and understanding the different geoprocessing tools that are available to update a model: Configure a utility network—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop

Hi All, We've been getting a lot of feedback and comments on the Esri data models for the utility network. There's even a discussion here in GeoNet asking questions about missing fields within the UPDM 2018 model. I can't stress enough that the data models being released by Esri with the utility network (so far Electric, Gas, and Water models have been released) are meant to be starting points and not end all models. We fully expect and encourage business partners and end users to take our models and make changes based on the individual needs of the organization. We've gotten too many reports of users, distributors, and partners thinking they had to follow our data models to the letter and could not change them. This is not the case. The data models Esri puts out are meant to be modified and extended as needed. Feel free to add additional fields, subtypes, rules, etc. based on the needs of your organization. Going forward you will see data models released by our partners that take the original Esri produced models and extend them to meet the more advanced workflows the partner solution addresses. Another area where you will see partner involvement is with data models that Esri does not plan on providing a starting point for. The core software has the ability to create data models from scratch and partners (as well as some end users) will take this capability to create models for things such as district heating, stream networks, rail, etc. As you begin to look at, research, and perform proof of concept studies with the utility network, keep in mind that you can and should change the data models to meet your needs. Thanks, Larry Young Esri Product Managemen

Hi Chris, Thanks for the post and your inquiry. We have moved over the majority of editing capabilities from ArcMap into ArcGIS Pro and added many additional new capabilities. There are still a few things that we still need to add and Intersection and Midpoint happen to be two of them. These are on our list, but we've lately been concentrating on annotation, the utility network, and 3D editing. We will get to these tools, but probably not within the next release or two. thanks, larry

Hi Mike, The Utility Network is part of the greater Network Management project and is something new. The white paper referenced above can help to explain. Users will need to load their data into the Utility Network, you cannot just upgrade your existing geometric network. With the initial release we will provide some tools to help in the process of moving forward. The purpose of the Network Management project is to give utilities and telecoms technology to take them through the next 15+ years of asset management with ArcGIS. The Utility Network will give users the ability to view, query, edit, and analyze the network from any supported device, as well as support a better real world representation of what is on the ground within the GIS. The white paper outlines many of the other new capabilities you will have the Utility Network. ArcGIS Pro will be the first client for the utility network, with support through the runtime SDK, web APIs, mobile apps, etc., following in subsequent releases. Thanks, Larry

Hi All, As mentioned in my last post in July of 2016, the plan was (and still is) to have a beta of the new Utility Network on top of ArcGIS 10.5 and ArcGIS Pro 1.4. We are in the process of wrapping up that beta now and expect to have it available through the early adopter site (https://earlyadopter.esri.com/home.html) within a few weeks. To be eligible for the beta you will need to go through the apply process on the early adopter site once the beta is available. For more information on the Utility Network and the Network Management Project as a whole, you can download a white paper on the subject from this location: Esri Utility Network Pro. From this location you can also sign up to receive notification when the beta of the Utility Network is available. We are planning on the initial release of the Utility Network with ArcGIS 10.6 and ArcGIS Pro 2.1 at the end of 2017. At this point, there are no plans to support editing of the geometric network with ArcGIS Pro. The management of utility and telecom networks with ArcGIS Pro will be through the new Utility Network once released. Larry Young Esri Product Management

I would assume at this point there will not be a direct way to transfer rules over. Understandably, it would be a nice thing to have, but until we get further into the development of Attribute Rules and really understand the required syntax of the expressions, it is hard to say how easy it would be to create something.

Hi Jeffrey, Generation of sequence numbers/expressions is something in the plans for Attribute Rules. How you configure and work with Attribute Rules will be different than what you are used to with Attribute Assistant due to many different reasons including the need to be cross platform. With Attribute Rules everything will be based on expressions that the user defines as part of the setup/configuration process. Long story short, GenerateID tables will be replaced with expressions defined by the user. larry

Hi Kirstyn, Functionality similar to the Attribute Assistant is being worked on for ArcGIS Pro, but it is not yet been released. The functionality is called Attribute Rules and it will make use of the new Arcade scripting language to allow users to define rules/scripts to be executed while features are being edited. The current plan is to release the first implementation of Attribute Rules with the 2.0 release of ArcGIS Pro. Larry

Hi Andrew, What the water toolset in ArcMap has is a custom tool to create the configuration of features that you describe. The tool works well with the geometric network and the data model being used for the water solution. In ArcGIS Pro, Group Templates are a configurable way for users to add many features with a single sketch. We've discussed adding capabilities to allow authors of templates to define that lines snapped to should be split, etc., but we've not yet come up with a good implementation for that within a generic editor. When working with features from a Network Dataset (transportation networks), you can define that roads automatically split when you snap another road to it, however. For water networks, the bulk of the functionality you are after will come with the Utility Network and a release of ArcGIS Pro later this year. Larry

Hi Mike, Wow, that post of mine from March, 2015 is a little depressing. Reminds me of how far behind we are with this project. As presented at the UC in San Diego last week (and at various other conferences), we are working on new technology called the utility network. The utility network is part of a larger project referred to as the network management project. The vision for this project has two main components. The first is to make the capabilities of the network available across the entire platform. This means you would be able to view, query, edit, and trace regardless of whether you are on the desktop, a mobile device, or the web. The second component is to provide the ability for a better real world representation of what is on the ground within the GIS. The main purpose of that is to allow better analysis directly within the GIS and to make it easier to move data into other mission critical systems such as OMS, DMS, modeling packages, etc. The utility network and other components of the network management project are currently scheduled to go into beta later this year on top of ArcGIS 10.5 and ArcGIS Pro 1.4. The first release would follow next year on top of the next releases of ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro. The initial client for the utility network will be ArcGIS Pro, but all of the capabilities will be delivered through services, so mobile and web support will follow. To be clear, support for editing and tracing of the geometric network will continue within ArcMap. Support for the utility network (editing, tracing, etc.) on desktop will be through ArcGIS Pro. Hopefully that answers your question. thanks, larry

Hosted services within ArcGIS Online do not support geometric networks. Only simple features are currently supported with ArcGIS Online. In your example, moving the manholes would not result in movement of the gravity mains. We recognize this as a limitation, and are currently working on improving the capabilities of network data to allow for appropriate behavior (such as moving connected features) across the platform. larry
