Ah I see "store in the map" is map annotation - and it's sadly not supported in ArcGIS Pro as you've seen.  Best to convert it to geodatabase annotation for AGP.  When you say slow, hard to apply edits - I have not seen this in my AGP projects or ArcMap *.mxd's.  Could be worth a call to Esri Support Services to troubleshoot the issue. ... Jill - so when you say labels in the ArcMap sense, are they really graphic text created using the Draw toolbar?  If so, then those graphic text items (in ArcMap) could be moved/adjusted/changed as you described.  Just to confirm, you were not using the Labeling Toolbar or the Layer Properties->Label with the Standard Label Engine or the Maplex Label Engine. Graphic elements from ArcMap are not supported in ArcGIS Pro so that may be why you're not seeing it when you import *.mxd's as Map Views in the *.aprx.  In ArcGIS Pro, you can label features and convert labels to geodatabase annotation.  If you want to have singular control over descriptive text in a Map View, then Map Notes may be the way to go. ... Grant - a few things to assist you in your project.  I think you're correct that the GP environment for Spatial Analyst tools works best on projected data rather than data in a geographic coordinate system.  So first thing I would recommend is using the Project Raster GP tool to create a DEM in projected space.  Second, you're right that there is no Draw Toolbar equivalent in ArcGIS Pro.  To add new points to a point feature class, you have to first create the new features class (shapefile or geodatabase feature class) and then in an edit "session" create the new points and save your edits.  From there, follow your workflow.  Is the process faster, slower, get stuck?  Please advise. ... I do not know if there's any plans to support ArcGIS Pro annotation models in ArcMap.  If I had to guess for backwards compatibility, I would venture no.  The reason I say this is in other ArcGIS Pro to ArcMap backwards compatibility, it's just not there.  For example, *.aprx -> *.mxd.  Keep in mind, this is just my opinion.  ArcGIS Pro employees are actively reading/reviewing these threads so perhaps Kory Kramer‌ might have more details? ... I understand Matthew - this transition phase from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro is not a one time pattern if you will.  I've been using Esri technology since 1992 (mostly as a customer and the last 12 years as an Esri Instructor) and "we've" gone through this before with ArcInfo Workstation->ArcView GIS->ArcMap->ArcGIS Pro.  ArcMap is a 20+ year product now and has developed into an amazing application albeit through years of growing pains.  ArcGIS Pro will get there in time - AGP is on a rapid release cycle in the sense we'll have 2.4.x releases between now and the end of the year to address bugs, add equivalency items and add new functionality.  ArcGIS Pro 2.5 more than likely is next year again with functional equivalency items, bug fixes and new functionality. RE:  annotations - correct in the sense that ArcMap authored annotation is read-only in AGP.  If you wish to make ArcMap annotation editable in AGP, then you'd use Upgrade Dataset to convert it to the new AGP annotation model.  This makes it unusable in ArcMap as you mentioned.  The short term workaround if you're using both ArcMap and AGP is to have one annotation feature class for ArcMap (read/write) and one annotation feature class for AGP (read/write). Matthew - curiosity question - what release of ArcGIS Pro are you using?  ArcGIS Pro 2.4 had a lot of enhancements to get closer to functional equivalency of ArcMap but it's not there yet.  There are items the developers do have to add certainly - such as this item - to meet the needs of our customers.  As an Esri Instructor, I have zero pull on the development direction of ArcGIS Pro but do assist customers as best as I can. ...
