I have dabbled a little with Experience Builder and Dashboard. There is a lot of overlap in functionality between the two. What are the main differences in the capabilities of each tool? Please give me some guidance on when I should choose to build a Dashboard or an Experience. Thanks, Bernie.

Joshua, because we publish our map services to the public we don't have any "typical channels" to reach all of our users. So we have to make extra effort to get the "retired" message in front of our users where they will see it - in their maps. We have not implemented this yet but this is part of our plan for retiring map services. Bernie.

Joshua - thanks for the input. We are also planning to use our firewall to keep requests for retired map services from hitting ArcGIS Server and landing in our log files. But first we have to give our users a grace period where we notify them that a map service has been retired by placing a message in the map data / map service itself. Our plan is to create a rectangle that covers our territory and label it with a message: MXD for retired map service. Bernie.

I manage an ArcGIS Enterprise system that provides about 80 map services for public consumption. We have thousands of anonymous users every month. Our PROD servers are currently running 10.2.2 but we are in the process of upgrading to 10.7.1. For a variety of reasons we have retired a few map services and this has created several minor issues for us: our users are still using web maps, MXDs, etc., that still reference the retired map services our ArcGIS Server log files contain numerous SEVERE errors for the retired map services Here are two samples from our ArcGIS Server log file: I would like to know how other ArcGIS Server administrators deal with retired map services and how do you notify your users of retired map services. Do you publish a list of retired map services to the web? Do you have other suggestions? I have considered asking our network admin to use our proxy servers to block incoming requests that reference the retired map services and, if possible, to also log the blocked requests so we can review and monitor activity on the retired map services. Any suggestions on this idea? I am also wondering if the web adaptors could be used to help filter retired map service requests before they reach ArcGIS Server. Thanks in advance for your replies and suggestions. Bernie.

Our IT services has deployed anti-ransomeware software (ARS). ARS is an important tool to help protect our data from ransomware attacks. The government of PEI was recently hit with a ransomware attack in February 2020. On April 7 th ARS was deployed on our network storage. Our data store, config store, file geodatabases and raster tile caches are stored on our network storage. Coincidentally, we have noticed stability issues with the our ArcGIS servers through most of April. On April 30 th the network storage team helped us identify a pattern that showed stability issues with the our ArcGIS Servers that coincided with the dates and times of events logged by the ARS software. Before I continue let me strongly state “There has NOT been a ransomware attack on our ArcGIS servers.” We believe that normal ArcGIS Server operations might mimic ransomware activity. This triggers the ARS software to log an event and then begin to take snapshots of our files on the network storage servers. We suspect the snapshotting may be interfering with the normal operation of ArcGIS Server. Some of our users have reported failed map service requests and we have witnessed missing raster map tiles in our tile cached basemaps. Since April 30 th the Isilon server team has disabled the ARS snapshotting activity for our storage space on the network servers. This appears to have improved the stability of our ArcGIS servers but we are continuing to closely monitor for problems. If ARS has been deployed on your storage servers and you are having stability issues with ArcGIS Server you should dig a little deeper. Have the ARS logs reviewed to see if they mention the ArcGIS Server admin account and see if the dates and times in the logs coincide with dates and time of ArcGIS Server problems. Good luck!

Wesley - that is an excellent, concise, distillation of the problem: "a widget that I can report a simple sheet of paper based on a a selected feature". Thanks, Bernie.

David, I completely agree that the Full Screen widget is more important and useful on mobile than on desktop screens. I too have noticed that Chrome on Android does not have a full screen mode (at time of writing, 2019-10-05). I did some testing and loaded several other mobile browsers on my Android phone today: Chrome – no full screen mode Google Go - no full screen mode Firefox - no full screen mode Opera - full screen mode available, a button appears in the lower right corner when in Landscape orientation Opera Mini - full screen mode available, a button appears in the lower right corner when in Landscape orientation Edge - full screen mode available, use finger to drag upward over the address bar when in Landscape orientation. I found it tricky to activate full screen mode. Duck-DuckGo - full screen mode available in both orientations, just drag upwards to hide address bar, but a downward motion when panning the map will also unhide the address bar and it can be annoying.

Is Portal really necessary in ArcGIS Enterprise for all situations? I can see the justification for Portal in many private corporations where having an internal / private version of ArcGIS Online (AGOL) is beneficial. But I work for a government agancy that manages a spatial data infrastructure (SDI). Our goal is to make all of our data and map services available to everyone. We really do not have a need for Portal. Is there already a supported deployment model that does not require Portal? We would prefer to just use ArcGIS Server to host our own map services and use AGOL to publish: items (pointers) to our map services, web maps, web apps. I fear that Esri is going to create workflows that will make Portal a requirement for all ArcGIS Enterprise users. Does anybody else agree that we need an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment model that does not require Portal?? Thanks, Bernie.

Kevin, Including REST layers would be a good idea but embedding long REST URLs into a share link makes it much more likely that the share link will exceed the 2048 character limit imposed by many web servers.

I agree Esri needs to include the basemap in the "Share" widget. However, I think including the layers from the "Add Data" is going too far. How will they handle data that was added from the user's local hard drive??

When I use the Share widget the resulting link does not appear to retain information about which basemap has been selected. It appears that the deafult basemap from the webmap is always displayed when the shared link is loaded. Why is the basemap setting not an option in the Share widget? See mockup below....
