Hi I'm very sorry for the confusion, as we currently have two template projects and not all features are supported in both of them it can get a bit confusing. I'll update the documentation to make it clearer. Let me know if you have more questions. Best, Benjamin

Hi, To see the metadata in Unreal Engine you actually have to select the Shape_Root Actor first and then the Shape_Root component as seen in this screenshot: So in your case that should be here: I will look into your other issues asap. Best, Benjamin

Hi The CityEngine Toolbox is currently only available in the CityEngine VR Experience Project (see https://community.esri.com/docs/DOC-11563-cityengine-vr-experience-for-unreal-studio for a setup guide). If you don't want to use VR you can just create a new empty Level and import your Datasmith file there. Let me know if that works out. Best, Benjamin

Hi, Datasmith has issues with really large meshes. What probably happens is because you only have white extrudes, all the buildings are merged together (because they all have the same material). Could you try exporting using the per initial shape merge option again and see if the import is still slow? Let me know how that goes. Best, Benjamin

Hi, I'll let you know how I get on with updating, however I am using the latest datasmith importer on blank project with varying degrees of success. I left a datsmith import of Glasgow City running overnight and I think it progress 2% up to 53% by the time I got back to it. I'm only using basic white-box OSM extrusions. What options did you use for the Datasmith export (merging and instancing)? Typically the "globally" merge strategy is really slow upon import. Thank you for the input on world composition! Best regards Benjamin

Hi James Are updates due to come soon? Currently trialing CityEngine and I'm having issues with the Datasmith import/export. The update is with Epic now. It will take them some time to review it and then it will be released in the marketplace. In the meantime you can try to upgrade the project manually to 4.22 like this: and set it to 4.22. The materials should work then (the metadata popup on the other hand not). Import is also painfully slow even for relatively simple scenes. Let me know if this is still the case with 4.22. It should actually be much faster. I'd also like to know if there are any plans to support world composition so we can have very large geo-accurate landscapes in UE4. This is a good idea. How would imagine it working? Large terrains being split up during the export and imported into multiple worlds (using world composition)? Cheers Benjamin

Hi I'm sorry to hear that your problem still exists. Would it possible to send the CityEngine scene which causes the problem, so I can try to debug it (for example using https://wetransfer.com/ or Dropbox/Goole Drive)? Best regards Benjamin

Hi Valen, We found the issue. The crashes occur when there are MeshActors without an assigned mesh in the level, which happened due to the way the old datasmith exports worked. The problem is resolved in the next version of the VR Template which will be released in around two weeks on the Unreal Marketplace. If this is urgent we can send you a prerelease of the VR Template? Hi, Looking to see if there is a way attach the log and sample datasmith on the forums but I don't see an option for it. I don't think that's possible. But you could use for example https://wetransfer.com/ or Google Drive/Dropbox if that's possible? Either the log, Datasmith File (including the Assets folder) or the whole Unreal Project would be useful for us. Best, Benjamin Esri R&D Zurich

Hi Bernhard If you see big numerical issues it might be because you forgot to "Center" your export in CE (by pressing the Center button next to the Global Offset in the Unreal Engine Exporter in CityEngine). This needs to be done because Unreal Engine does not support geo referencing and the scene needs to be "moved" into a local coordinate system. Let me know if that helps. Best, Benjamin

Hi Alan Right now there is a semi automated way of doing this described here: https://community.esri.com/docs/DOC-11559-cityengine-metadata-export-into-unreal-engine (there is already a simple HUD implemented as well). In our next version Metadata will be supported natively by the exporter which should make it even easier. Let me know if that works out. Cheers, Ben

Hi Gary, 1) This question concerns using controllers in VR mode using the template. When I am in the ESRI UE4 VR model and I zoom in with the controllers, my entire scene rises (from the table top until the objects are above my head). Did I not anchor something in CE or in UE4? This is a known issue. It happens most likely due to height differences in your scene. The scene is aligned so that the lowest point of your scene is slightly above the table. We are working on a fix for this issue. 2) I am also trying to zoom into my model, in the Viewport, to place teleport locations. I do not know how to zoom into my scene from the viewport. Any advice. Do you mean navigating around in your scene in the Unreal Editor? This should work the same way as in the Model Loader. Best, Benjamin

Hi Sha hu Unfortunately thats not possible as of now. But we will fix that in a future version so that the pivot point can be set to the Actors themselves. Best Benjamin Esri R&D Zurich
