I am finding that the mid-point snap tool is unreliable. It often snaps to a point that is not mid-point and these eroneous snaps are inconsistent - sometimes it snaps to a point that is quite close to the correct mid-point and other times it snaps it somthing that is very obviously not mid. I attach two images, one showing my geometry and one with an example of a bad mid-point. I also find that it snaps to features that a marked as unselectable in the TOC.

Just installed CE 2012 trial (upgrade from 2011). The new drawing tools are supercool but, unless I'm being dim, one tiny piece of functionality has gone missing: -the ability to inhibit snapping by pressing SHIFT... it's still listed in help... am I doing something wrong, those big orange dots get in the way? Oh, and 'rectangular shape creation'... am I right - the rectangle only aligns to the axes or an adjacent shape? It would be much more useful if we could draw rotated rectangles (yes I know we can do this with right-angle snap on the polygon draw tool but finding those snap angles takes longer).

Yes I know what rotation I want to perform - but I only want to rotate as part of the export process so my collada export gets rotated but the scene in CE remains unchanged. Can this be done with an export script?

The thing is - when I open the CE export (collada .dae) in my viewer the camera is looking up at the bottom of the models whereas all other models (non-CE content) open with the camera looking down on the roofs. Maybe you're right, maybe in the end I won't need to rotate the models. I'm waiting for a team in another country to test what I've exported from CE with our other systems so I thought I'd spend a bit of time to see what else I could do fix what I think is a potential problem.

Hey - Is there a way I can rotate all my models upon export but without also rotating them within the scene. I'm doing a simple rotate on ce.selection and I've tried putting the code before and after the 'Finalise Models' bit and before and after the 'Finalise Export' bit, but it always rotates within the scene as well.

Hi Matt - this is kind of my point about it being confusing......unless I'm missing something... So I turn on the axes - which shows Z-up. However if I draw a shape and translate it in the z-direction it does not move up, it moves in the north-south axis - I have to translate it in y-direction to move it up. But my big problem is with exports being oriented with y-up because this doesn't match my other data - so I was asking if there could be an option to have the whole environment (import, working and export) oriented with z-up. I wonder if there are any nice bits of python that could fix this for me - or should I ask this on the python forum?

Any plans to give us the option of using "proper" x-east, y-north, z-up axis orientation in future releases. After all, you're an ESRI product now it would seem logical - I find this this y-up, negative-z stuff is quite confusing.

I have found that when I re-open the project some of the roofs have changed their orientation since I saved the file - I'm not sure how many buildings have changed because the effect is mainly quite subtle but in the case of long-thin buildings with a shed roof the effect is very obvious because the roof becomes enormous. Could I be doing something wrong? I'm sorry, I forgot I was mucking about with the convexify command at the beginning of my cga file......it's all my fault. This thread can be deleted if you like.

Can you test this with an installation of the CityEngine 2012 TRIAL ? I'm afraid I'm not getting CE 2012 trial to work - it just hangs on the splash-screen. I think I meet minimum system requirements...I have: Windows XP Professional x64 Service Pack 2. NVIDIA Quadro 2000 I've rebooted since I installed it.....any suggestions? (The machine on which I have 2011.2 installed is not connected to the internet so I trying to install this on a different one).

Hi I have drawn 440 building footprints in CityEngine. I have taken care with the edge I have drawn first to help me control the orientation of gable and shed roofs. In case I have made a mistake with the first edge I have added a 'roofIndex' attribute so I can change the orientation of the roof where necessary. I have found that when I re-open the project some of the roofs have changed their orientation since I saved the file - I'm not sure how many buildings have changed because the effect is mainly quite subtle but in the case of long-thin buildings with a shed roof the effect is very obvious because the roof becomes enormous. Is this a known problem (2011.2)? Does CityEngine forget which edge was drawn first? Does it forget the change to my 'roofIndex' parameter? Would it remember the first edge better if I used imported shapefiles? Could I be doing something wrong? It's very difficult for me to spot a pattern to this because it's difficult to be sure where it is happening.

Hello Collada .dae files that contain a light point seem to cause CityEngine to exit without warning. This happens whether I'm using the insert command or just clicking on the file in the Navigator window. I'm using CE 2011.2 - is there a list of bug fixes somewhere?

It's funny how writing something on a forum can suddenly make you find the correct section in the help docs...... this is the syntax I was looking for: attr mapR = map_01(red, 0.0, 1.0) attr type = case mapR > 0.9: "Skeleton Subdivision" else: "No Subdivision"

Thanks Matt But I'm afraid I'm not very experienced at coding. I can apply a numerical value using a map,.... easy-peasy..... But how do I control a text attribute (such as subdivision type) using this method? I've tried a few things but it doesn't understand me - I've tried putting text values in for the max, min of the map channel - I've tried a case statement like the one below but I get a red mark under the word 'case': attr mapR = map_01(red, 0.0, 1.0) attr type = "" case mapR > 0.9: type = "Skeleton Subdivision" else: type = "No Subdivision"

Thanks Matt I got it to work but it's not ideal - I have to reproject it, then note down the xy coords and dimensions so I can position it in CE. There is a slight rotation applied in the reprojection so I get some zero values around the edges of the bounding rectangle - this makes me think I will not get a clean reprojection back into EPSG4326 after export if I have altered the terrain (but I haven't tested this yet). I'm suprised if EPSG4326 is rare - according to wiki it is the latest version of WGS84: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Geodetic_System edit: Maybe this is the problem, I guess 4326 is spherical - does CE only do flat earth approximations?
