We upgraded desktops from ArcMap 10.1 to 10.3.1 and now the time it takes to open an .mxd has increased from 30sec. to 2:30 minutes for user accounts who have access to a lot of feature classes (several 1000s) in our geodatabase. User accounts who have access to much fewer feature classes (~100) do not experience this performance decrease with ArcMap 10.3.1 . Geodatabase is version 10.3, Oracle 11g (issue exists on oracle 12c as well). It seems as if ArcMap 10.3.1 is reading the Oracle data dictionary at connect into something. Does anyone else observe this? Is there a way to prevent this from happening? (registry or environment setting, etc.)

Can you tell me how to create such a log file/turn on this logging functionality? I cannot find any documentation on it. Thank you!

Just an idea: Editing nonversioned geodatabase data in SQL Server using SQL—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop: "If the nonversioned table you want to edit using SQL is enabled for archiving, you must edit the table's archive view rather than the table itself."

Thomas, did you verify that geodatabase versioning isn't causing the behaviour you are seeing? In case this is versioned data, do you reconcile the data from the base table (where your SQL trigger updates Field3) with the version that Collector Sync's to&from before tapping 'Sync' in Collector?

When adding a feature I want to set an attribute field value programatically instead of filling it out manually. I cannot figure out where in the Edit widget's Widget.js file I could do this. Has anyone an example or suggestions of how to do this with the WAB (v1.3) Edit widget?

Iain, instead of making them non-editable you could see if making them non-selectable suits your needs. The section "Listing by selection" on this website describes how to do that. For making them truly non-editable you could move their datasources into a different workspace (since ArcMap can only edit one workspace at a time), or use permission settings if they are stored in an Enterprise Geodatabase.

Wondering if anyone has tried this before. My goal would be to get the bus locations from this API into a web map. Thanks.

I have an AppStudio app that generates+syncs a runtime geodatabase from a feature service and then displays some layers on a map. How can I give my users the ability to remove that .geodatabase file while the app is running? In my app I have a button that when clicked: 1) removes all FeatureLayers from the map 2) changes all GeodatabaseFeatureTables to not point to my .geodatabase file anymore Then it executes FileFolder.removeFile("gdb.geodatabase"), but it fails to delete the file! In my code I do declare a QML Geodatabase component that uses the "gdb.geodatabase" file, and when I comment that section out the file does indeed get deleted successfully. Can I modify my Geodatabase component to not prevent the deletion of my .geodatabase file while the app is running? I tried changing the Geodatabase "path" property but that doesn't seem to release the lock. Thanks for you advice.

Paul, I can replicate this same behavior. The window height/width proportions and the polygon height/width proportions seem to make a difference in what this function does.

Freddie Gibson, MXD Doctor seems to not work in my cases. In the oracle audit table I can still see that immediately after my map layers successfully connect to the database using the new datasource there is one connection attempt sent to the database using the old datasource. The .mxd's layer datasources were changed using "ArcCatalog --> Set Data Source(s)...". The resulting map document was run through the MXD Doctor . Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

K DeVogelaere, note that the method you are linking to describes how to change the datasources for existing map layers and tables. Like I state in the discussion title I am coming across many .mxd files that also store the datasource incl. the username and expired password "somewhere else". (I just don't have a better word for it, but wherever it is stored it seems impossible to remove it)

The geodatabase domain is owned by a user account that does not represent an individual (in my above example this is electrical). This "functional" account is granted BECOME USER privileges in oracle, so that certain user accounts (in my example this is Joe123) can assume the identity of electrical (in the above example Joe has a connection file where the username field states Joe123[electrical] ). ArcMap GP tools that modify geodatabase domains don't seem to understand this syntax. They don't understand that in my example it is Joe123 assuming the identity of electrical who is connecting to the database, and that this connection should be allowed to modify a geodatabase domain that is owned by user electrical . Hope this clarifies it a bit. Thanks.

Okay, thanks for the confirmation George Thompson and Asrujit SenGupta. In case you know of any workarounds, here is my use case: Most GP tools have no problem with oracle become user syntax, but the tools "Table to Domain" and "Sort Coded Value Domain" don't recognize it. For example, if Joe is a power user in the electrical utilities department he connects with username Joe123[electrical]. Works great, except when he needs to run one of these tools against a domain owned by electrical he gets the error "Domain may not be locked as the user is not the owner" unless he actually could connect as electrical . I say could because it isn't a viable option due to IT policy.

Modify as in updating existing domains by adding, inserting, removing, and sorting code-description pairs (Whether export to table-->modify exported copy-->delete existing domain-->create new domain with identical name-->import with the same domain name would arrive at the same result I don't know. But I can't use ArcGIS GP Tools to do this because they don't seem to honor the oracle "become user" syntax I need to use for connecting to the geodatabase.) Thanks for your help.
