We use Active Directory authentication (not using LDAP). There are two errors in sequence; see below. The only other post I've found related to this involves IWA. I have been assured by our IT provider that all Domain Controllers are Global Catalog Servers. We don't have any authentication issues as a result of this, but it is a curious and troubling warning.

In Portal, you can create prepackaged offline areas. Where does Enterprise store these areas? I can find the 'Map Area' in /portal/sharing/rest and can also find the item in the arcgisportal/content directory in the file system, but not the offline data itself. I'm curious to know what the file format it. TPK? MPK? I'm wondering if these areas can then be sideloaded into something like Collector. The ability to create offline areas in Portal is by far more convenient than Desktop/Pro methods.

@jcarlson We have been experiencing the exact same behavior as @danbecker So far using the vector basemaps is fine. [Except for the fact that the symbology changes when you use these services as a basemap effectively removing any contour/hillshade/topographic representation, so it's a huge step backwards].

Same issue and no logging for Android makes this extremely hard to diagnose. I do see offline replicas are getting created from the eGDB but since the download doesn't complete these are now bogus/orphaned replicas.

@JeffShaner Hi Jeff! This is great news. I've reached out to a couple coworkers who oversee much of our fieldwork for feedback and hopefully some additional details for you!

@AndrewE that's a very interesting piece of information! This is making me rethink what direction Esri may be headed in.

I just stumbled across this ArcGIS Idea and I think it's great!. However, as i'm reading through this it occurs to me that this will likely never be implemented. This level of functionality would undermine the need for ArcGIS Enterprise implementation and Esri's ability to continue to monetize that product. I think this can be also seen in there not being a 2-way synchronization model between hosted feature layers and an eGDB (at any license level such as a Desktop Database Server). It's hard to interpret their direction, but these little bits continue indicate to me that Esri isn't moving to any kind of RDBMS as a PaaS any time soon. [That all said, I've read of some intrepid folks who have crafted various sync models with creative coding].

I've been poking around with the REST API in the hopes of eventually transforming this process into something I can do with the Python API...For now, I'm simply using the REST endpoint to try to create a replica. For testing, this is just a hosted feature layer in AGO. The API Reference suggests that the geometry parameter is required. When I leave this blank, I can successfully extract a fGDB, but this is has no FCs present. I have tried using the example envelope coordinates but this always produces the 'geometry parameter is invalid'. I have tried providing the coordinates in lat-long: I have also tried supplying the coordinates using the SR of the service itself and attempting to input the WKT, but i'm sure i'm messing up the syntax there (get an invalid inSR error). Is anything obvious jumping out here?

Thanks, that gets me part way there. There's still no way to create eGDBs in a Desktop Database Server instance in Pro....I've been trying to find a work around for that. I'll still give a +1 for Hilary Campbell 's suggestion. There were/are a lot of great tools in ArcMap that haven't made the leap (and maybe wont) to Pro.

Are you then able to import the XML somehow to create a pre-configured GDB?

Thank-you. Performance issues aside, Desktop Database Servers (via SQL Express) are instrumental to distributed data workflows. It's important to remember that there are still places in the world where connectivity is sparse and bandwidth is meager such that direct DB connections (via WAN/VPN) or FS editing are simply not feasible. However, the replicated data model is time-proven and can also be enhanced with version management. Not being able to work with database server instances (using SQL Express) fundamentally cuts-out the 2-way replica option without having an ArcGIS Server license, and given what we are seeing here it's likely/possible that ArcGIS Workgroup is on the chopping block as well!

It seems to be discussed in this idea submission here. However, this is a very broad topic and a huge thread of comments...I have no idea of knowing what enhancements are on track towards implementation.

We are finding there are still several GDB administration tools/processes that are unavailable with Pro. Since we cannot create GDBs in (Desktop) Database Servers (SQL Express) with Pro, we were looking for a workaround and it occurred to us that there doesn't seem to be any equivalent of the Extract Data Wizard in Pro. Is there any other way to extract just the schema (via XML) from a GDB in Pro? Alternatively, I don't see any option to use 'Schema Only' for a checkout GDB in the Create Replica GP Tool in Pro. Not that it would do any good, because we still can't find any equivalent to importing a workspace like you have in ArcMap. Are we just overlooking something obvious here or are these findings correct? Thanks!
