Are you using source or sinks? You might want to try sinks and flag the end points as sinks. You can also manually set flow direction using digitized direction using the water/gas utility editing toolbar. You can get the toolbar as part of gas as built editing or water network editing and analysis solution. Actually, what about a Account Type on the commercial lateral? This would let you model things such as dialysis centers, schools, hospitals, etc.

As you suggested, I would just add another type. Be good to know if we should add this to the base data mode. Do others break out schools as their own type?

Mark, Probably best to break this into two questions: Q 1: What version should we stay on for the Geometric Network Q 2: Can we build tools/add ins for multiple versions. A 1: It is recommended that user stay on 10.2.1 only for their desktop editing if they use the Geometric Network. The other option is to stay current with every release. Any bug fixes/improvements are shared in a 10.2.1 utility patch and also applied to the next release of ArcGIS. So if your organization has the ability to upgrade ArcGIS with every release, you do not have to stay on 10.2.1 A2: Answered above, but best to compile on the lowest version you need to support. Hope this helps.

There are no plans to move the toolbar forward as Pro and the Utility Network bring a lot of these capabilities with it. What functions would you call a must have at release?

Mark, We always compile our tools on 10.1 so they are forward compatible. I keep a VM around for just this reason. I like to compile on the oldest support version to ensure that I am not using a method only available in newer versions. I have not tested compiling say on 10.5 with the add in referencing 10.2.1. It should work, just make sure the references are set to not require a version.

Joe, What level of detail do you need on your manual blows? Do you need to know they type of valve? Do you need to map the valve to your CMMS? Could you add a new type of Manual Blow off to the control valves and would this be enough? I do not feel we ever properly models blow offs as there are regional differences and variations of the devices. It would be good to understand all the different variations so we can include these in the utility network model we are working on.

You will need to not use the geometric network as far as I know to prevent a vertex being created.

A vertex does not split the main, it is still one continuous line. The vertices is required as this is a junction in the geometric network. You cannot remove it. Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE DROID
