hi, if you have a 3d model outside arcgis (autocad, google sketchup). you can import 3d files from the conversion toolbox. And then use the multipatch of 3d analyst. regards,

hi, this subject falls in the category of site suitability analysis. The usual procedure is through raster analysis tools. Previously it was a multistep procedure like this . But now arcgis has some inbuilt tools that do the above task , look here so first step is to discuss the selection criteria with domain experts, then collect the required data and follow the procedure above. Hope this helps, regards,

hi Arcgis is sometimes slow. But it does the job. May be wait a little longer, the number of stops you have is a big number. Else check your connectivity before you run the tool. regards,

Hi, This is possible in Network Analyst and is very easy to solve. But you will need a road network. If you have a road network and location of residents and restaurants, you can easily solve this problem. regards,

hi, Did you first export the routes layer to be a separate layer ? because routes layer is temporary and running calculate geometry may lead to misleading results. Also as i see, calculated length is always less than route length, so it suggests that calculate geometry may not be doing it for the whole route. just check again after exporting the routes to a permanent file. regards,

Hi, 1, please use 'check geometry' to see the problems and fix it by using repair geometry. if you are using for first time, please backup your data. 2, you cannot dissolve based on country. make sure you make new attribute 'continent' and fill asia for all asian countries. then dissolve it. dissolve tool works by merging all features that have 'same' value of attribute in the selected field.

Does that mean you also changed the next class as 4 to 6 ? i think the hierarchy values should not overlap.

Yes, I suggest that atleast that the routes be made. It will help your cause a lot. And routes with combination of elevation fields will take your project a long way and bring clarity to your model. Not sure if you already have it as such (one line feature for one rail route). regards,

Hi, This is a good question. But arcgis does only static modeling if I am not wrong. The case you suggest would need coding. a time window option might help, but it is still static. following a procedure of 1, -1, 0 , <>, or TF FT N, In coding, you could possibly make the line N indicating no access, and therefore, the second train cannot find a path, for the required time steps. or secondly this could mean that the train would have a 'moving' origin and destination for each step, 'along' the route till they reach the final destination from the initial origin. this will call shortest path routine in each step with the moving origin and destination. regards,

Hi, Thanks. I do deal with asset management but is not bread and butter 🙂 option1: Suggestions based on the example picture that you attached, do not make the intersection break at that point. So in edit mode, you select the two line segments that form a feasible rail route and select the merge option from the edit menu. Ofcourse, this will work if you have not a lot of such intersections. option2: Other than the image, i suggest that you first make a route layer, that is the entire path a train would take from its origin to destination and this should be done for each possible route. Then, split your each route at vertices. After you do this, use the Linear Directional Mean tool with ID as a case. This will give you angle(bearing) of each line segment. For rail, the difference in bearing of successive line segments should not be huge, as you already pointed out. The above helps you to identify points of wrong turns and you can manually correct them as in option 1 option3: after doing the above, if you find out that there are exception routes that do have a sharp turn while other trains at the same intersection do not and if it is not possible to generalize. Then add and extra line segment with different elevation field for that line. see picture. yes, it is manual work ! My english is not the best, so please ask again if not clear.
