hi .. My guess would be the issue is here : LotAligned2(yDim) --> alignScopeToAxes(y) extrude(world.y, 100) split(y) {yDim : BaseVolume | ~1 : NIL} if yDim gets very small... like 0, no BaseVolume Shape gets created, which is logic. Thus, you get no building. thus I'd write the code somfing like this :
LotAligned2(yDim) -->
case yDim > 0.01 :
alignScopeToAxes(y)
extrude(world.y, 100)
split(y) {yDim : BaseVolume | ~1 : NIL}
else:
Building make sense ?

'const' makes an attribute constant for the whole shape. thus, there's no direct differentiation between the facades of the different buildings. so what you have to do is pass one random 'chosen' texture down to each one of the building footprints for using as the facade texture. If you are on 2010.3, you have to pass the value from rule to rule, like :
Lot -->
Rule(rand(10,20))
Rule (value) -->
print (value) This can of course get confusing if you have many many rules, because you need to pass the values down like, even over rules which do not use this value. For this, in the 2011 version, GENERIC ATTRIBUTES were introduced, which let you set and change any attribute in the Rules. These are then passed down automatically. E.g. attr myValue= 1
Lot -->
set (myValue, 10)
Rule
Rule -->
print (myValue) Please note that these attribute values are handed down to the different 'subtrees' in the Model Hierarchy, thus each branch can have different values.

the current examples are not that detailed, but you could also create details as guard rails and such in cga. it's just a question of how much detail you want / need. as the name says the examples are examples, but do not represent the quality of what details can be ultimately be produced. The more time you invest in details and in CGA code, the more details you can produce. 🙂

hi Jack. first, you need to initialize the attr in the CGA rule file. see this code : attr enclosed = false
Lot -->
case enclosed == true :
color("#ff0000")
else:
color("#00ff00") once you have assigned the rule, change the Attribute Source to 'Object attribute'. In the 2011 version, this is done with the little black triangle on white rectangle next to the attr entry in the Inspector. Ok ?

hi ! maybe it's best that each topic has a well-descriptive title, .. better than 'help me' or 'problem'. 🙂 color("#ff0000") is the old hexadecimal color code for red. color(1,0,0) is rgb (0-1, not 0 - 255 !) color code for red. this can be used only in 2011 and after. so you need to write the hex version in 2010.3, ok ?

@ Qian : Can you also quickly give me a feedback on which viewport settings you are using ? what are the options you are using for: - Lighting (default : scene light) - Ambient Occlusion (default : off ) - 2 Sided Lighting (default : off) - Backface Culling (default : off ) What is the behavior with the defaults once you create a new scene with one very simple extruded model (Lot --> extrude(10) X. )? Does the issue persist then ? greetings !

hi ! Thanks for reporting the issue ! It seems this is a general issue. I was able to reproduce it here on my private MacBook. Has to do with context menu stuff we changed. The bug's been logged and will get fixed. You can escape this trap by quickly zooming out once. But indeed, with each new RMB click, the issue's back.

hi ! you should be able to port your lines with dxf, if Max can export lines ( curves ) to dxf. though, make sure they're straight segments, curves are not supported. you could also import polygons as static shapes into the CE and create buildings based on those shapes. Though I guess the easiest is to create everything in the CE, from lines to shapes to models. ok ?

It would be nice if those of us with subscription received our updates to 2011! Or some word about what is happening to our 'Procedural' user area / its transition to Esri etc Most companies sort this stuff out before announcing the new version. BB Those with Subscription will be upgraded. All existing customers should already have been welcomed with a nice welcome-package by either Esri Inc in the US or by the local Distributor for non-US customers. Indeed, the software has not directly been accessible. we're aware of this, but please be patient a little more time since not only we have been working on the new version, but we ( ex procedural ) have at the same time been migrated completely into the esri framework (admin, sales, support, websites, ..). thanks for your understanding ! 🙂

1. Is the full retail version of CE 2011 Advanced exactly the same file size as the downloadable CE 2011 trial version, 177 MB? 2. u guys said" Download the Windows version of the License Server from the Esri Customer Care Portal..." but now I want to try CE 2011 first, I just downloaded the trial version, can I just install it on my PC and then it will run smoothly, without installing any License Server ( I cannot access and download the Windows version of the License Server from the Esri Customer Care Portal)? I mean, can I just install and activate the trial version smoothly for testing within 30 days? 3. If I have purchased the CE Advanced license, is it OK to simply install Node Locked License file into the trial version, then this trial version will immediately become the CE Advanced version? and it will have all features enabled (including the export features)? To tell u the truth, customers don't want to download 2 seperate files - one for trial & one for retail - and install it one by one in different time......customers want to download just one version of file with all features enabled but limited time for trial, then just install some file or serial key to activate the unlimited time feature after purchase ...just like other softwares. ( Pls don't ask me to see this link, http://resources.arcgis.com/content/...e-StartInstall I have seen it many times.....still not understand completely...) Thx for your notice. 1] not, the TRIAL installer is smaller since the exporter is not included in the TRIAL version. The reason for this is to protect the software and thus also those who officially pay for it. 2] the TRIAL version runs directly, without any other installation. [ to license the CityEngine, there's two types of licensing : nodelocked licenses and floating licenses. Activation Codes which you get after a purchase, create a nodelocked license. to run a floating license after a purchase, you need the so-called License Server. so do not need this to run the TRIAL, which is independent. ] 3] no, you will need to install the full product first, see 1] ok ?
