Hi, I don't have all the expertise needed for a clear answer to this. I have forwarded this thread to some people and I hope you get an answer soon, ok ? Matt

Hi .. but you have control of the road width with the graph settings ... ? or what do you need precisely ? maybe post an image of the goal and what you already have in CE.. ok ? matt

Yes, some things can be done with the shape creation tools. Though, Streets have nicely layouted UV coordinates ready .. The shape creation tools don't create nice UVs along a road. Maybe post an image and I have a few ideas .. Matt

Hi, you mean sideways 45 degrees ? ( for fast cars ? ) this is sadly not possible in CGA at the moment. You would need to convert the shapes to static shapes and move the points up manually. matt

Hi. The error screen itself gives us not enough details. Is it possible that you can share the dataset with us, so we can track the issue down ? Please send me a PM. Matt

Hi, I'd recommend to upgrade to CityEngine 2014. If you have a 2012 license, you get access to 2014 for free (the licenses still works). How big (MegaBytes) are the biggest files you can still export ? Let me know .. Matt

hey ! you modeled all this in SketchUp ? (poor bastards .. hehe) 🙂 very cool animation, congrats !! well, there's no other software better suited to your needs than CE. did you carefully study the CGA tutorials ? I highly recommend you go through tutorials 1,2,3,6,7,8,9 IN DETAIL. when you understand these tutorials, you will be able to create stunning cities. yes, it takes time to learn CGA. It takes you about 3 weeks with 60% of your work time to get into the basics. But once you have those, you will be massively faster than with SketchUp and have a constant modeling quality over the whole city. let me know if there's more questions after you studied the tutorials carefully, have taken at least 5 hours to read through the crucial parts of the manual and deeply studied the CGA reference. let me know if you hit roadblocks [ railroad-blocks 🙂 ] matt

Hi ! Thanks for the data. I was able to reproduce the issue here on your data. Seems to be a bug. We'll have a look into this. As a workaround, please use these methods to edit the resulting elevation range that is defined in the Terrain??s layer attributes. getLayerAttributes() setLayerAttributes() Just make a list with all min/max values, then get/edit/set that value with python. I??m not sure how many tiles you have to process, but maybe try to get all in a text file, which you can parse with python in the process. matt

hi .. I recommend to use the fast way : - Same start as tutorial 3, part 2 http://resourcesdev.arcgis.com/en/null/noop88/index.html#/Tutorial_3_Map_control/032t0000000m000000/ (Import your own image of course) - Use transform / scale tools ( w/e keys) to place the image in the scene manually. Let me know if this works or you need preciser inputs. Matt

no, the comp() is in the right place .. does this code help ? : ( did not check the code, may contain errors.) Lot -->
setback(rand(4,10)) { street.front : Garden | street.back : Garden | remainder : Building }
Garden --> color(1,0,0)
attr BlgOffsetMin = -1
attr BlgOffsetMax = -2.5
Building-->
offset(rand(BlgOffsetMin, BlgOffsetMax))
comp(f) {inside: BuildingFootprint | all : Base }
attr BlgExtrMin = 3
attr BlgExtrMax = 9
BuildingFootprint -->
extrude(world.y, rand(BlgExtrMin, BlgExtrMax))
Base -->
extrude(0.1) If this does produce what you need, please provide an image of what you want to reach. 🙂 matt

yes, you can edit the rule. just open the rules and check for locations where you have something like i(tree). there, write 'NIL' instead of inserting the tree geometry. note that if you select 1 model which has a tree: - open the model hierarchy window ( Window > Model Hierarchy ) - enter 'edit model mode' button in the taskbar ( check docs if you can't find it ) - the model should turn transparent - click in model hierarchy - press 'f' to frame all nodes. - select a tree in the viewport > a node in the model hierarchy should get selected. - double click that node > the rule should open where exactly that tree is inserted. - remove all trees this way you find ( I assume there's only 1 or 2 places where trees are called. ok ? lemme know if it works. matt
