I have selected some polygons representing property parcels in my map. How can I export only the selected ones and not the entire data file? Would like to have them saved as a shape file.

I have a manhole base map, and my surveyor has gone out and found a new one. I have a Northing/Easting for this point. How can I edit my shape file and just input the N,E for this one point? Thanks

update on this....I tried to do a select by location. I thought it worked, but it only selected parcels that crossed the boundary line of the flood plain line. It skipped those smaller parcels that were enclosed by the flood plain line that did not touch the boundary line.

I have a polygon representing a flood plain, and also have property parcels shown. How can I show only those parcels that are touching/crossing the flood plain? I'd like to see only them, and then export out to a list. Can anybody help me with some steps? Thanks

Working in my sewer map, I have lines of pipe with attributes of diameter, and material. I know how to query size and type of pipe, but I am needing to get the length of say all 6" pipe. How would a guy do that? Thanks for any help you can give. MKH

heres the scenario....I am working with 2 shape files. 1 contains sewer lines. Just simple point 2 point lines. The other shape file is "decade". It is a polygons of different decades that the sewer lines were built. I would like to add a "decade" field to the sewer line shape file, based on which decade polygon is cover it. Does this make sense, and can anyone help me out on work flow? I'll attach an image. Thanks. Notice in the image the liness are covered by the 1970 polygon. I'd like to add "1970" to a field in the sewer line file. Thanks for any help you can give.

yes saving it. Let say I do a layout, print it, and then go back to data view. If I zoom around in data view, and go back to layout, the layout is not displaying as it did before

i've been working on a map, go to layout view and set it up the way i like it. Next time I enter the map, and i go to layout view, the page is different and the setting i used have not been saved. How do I save my map (layout) so each time I want to print it, it will already be set up. I am coming from a cad background, where your "paper space" layout would be saved until you changed it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. MKH

how about "subset". See attached image. Also, I'm a bit concerned that I may be using a different tool than you. Mine says "select layer by location" and your says "select by location"

I appreciate everyones help but I am still missing something. I set up to view only "North Hills" subdivision under that layers properties. I then did a select by attribute, selecting only 6" pipe. See image 1.jpg (only 6" pipe selected) then I did a select by location, using the selection set of sewer lines, intersecting with the subdivision layer. See image 2.jpg. See Image 3.jpg as the result. 8" pipe is then selected along w/ 6"

Cory….thanks for those great steps. I have one issue, and I’m sure its on me, not you! As I do the select by location (based on the selected features) that intersect, it is picking up all pipe sizes, not just the 6” that was in the previous selection. Any ideas? Thanks

really needing help with this. See the attached image. I have subdivisions represented by polygons, and within those polygons, I have more data representing sewer lines. I need to query certain size lines, within the subdivision polygon and am not sure which geoprocessing tool to use. For example.....looking at the image.....how would I query 6" sewer lines with the North Hills Subdivisons. Each set of data, (sewers and subdivisions) are in separate shape files. Any guidance you folks could give would be greatly appreciate.
