Hi Xander, The Polygons represent homes and the polylines are road bounderies. What Im trying to go is show a line from the road boundary to the home boundary but using the shortest line. I haven't attached a screen dump of what I want but I have attached my shapefiles. Hope this helps? Let me know i there is anything additional you may need. Regards Sukh

Hi Xander, apologies for the late reply. I converted the polygon to lines, which was straight forward and then created points along the line using a toolbox called Create Points On Line (http://ianbroad.com/arcgis-toolbox-create-points-polylines-arcpy/). Thinking about it now it clearly wasn't the right approach.

Hi Xander, What I did was convert a polygon to a points, what I was hoping to achieve is get the xy of of the closest point on a polygon to the closest point on a polyline (which I also converted to points, so I could get the xy). In the end my aim is to create a line between the 2 XY points, for this I would have used XY to Line tool. Thanks again,

Hi Guys, hope everyone is well? I'm hoping someone can help me here, is there a way to generate something like a 'near table' (http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//00080000001n000000) with a basic level user licence? Are there any work around's you can suggest? Thanks in advance for any help. I'm using ArcGIS 10.2

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can advise me here. I have address data in the form of points and I have home boundaries (Polygon & Polyline). The points sit in the centre of these polygons. Is there any way I can move the points from the centre of the polygons to the edge closest to another feature? I have 1000s of points to move so I was wondering if there was a way I can automate this? Thanks in advance for any help & guidance. I am using ArcGIS 10.2 Standard.

Hi Richard, Just wanted to update with this. It seems I may have over thought the original question I asked. In the end to count the possible number of utility poles I would need I simply did the following... 1. I created points on line intersects 2. I then placed points on a lines at given intervals depending on the line length. Obviously doing this meant that the poles were on street centre lines so their position wasn't accurate but it gave me an idea of the number of poles I I may need. However I wasn't able to get 12 properties per pole but in the end this didn't really matter. But to show the properties connected to poles I just created spider diagrams. Thanks again.

Hi Dan, At the moment I wasn't really looking at the rules of the spatial merge. I was thinking only about adjacent polygons. So a start polygon will look at it's adjacent polygons and if they can merge based on the sum being <32 then they merge otherwise it doesn't. Basically something like a continuous loop of each polygon doing this until it's not possible to make more merges. I figured some sort of coding would be needed. That's definitely something I need to learn. Thanks for your response.

Hi Guys, Hope you're all well? I'm hoping someone can advise me here. What I have are polygons with values in a sum field. What I'm trying to do is group these polygons to their adjacent/nearest polygons but I don't want the sum of the grouped/merged polygons to exceed 32. So if one polygon had a value of 16 & the second a value of 8, then it will be ok to merge, however if the polys had a value of 17 each then as this exceeds 32 then it shouldn't merge. Not all my polygons are touching each other. Is it possible to do this? If so any guidance on how this may be achieved? I'm using ArcGIS 10.1 Basic (Editer?) Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Hi dan, You're right . I can turn on arrow heads and then select multiple lines buy visually selecting. the only problem is that I have 1000s of lines and this is where I'm hoping to find a quicker solution.

Hi Duncan, Thanks for the links provided. The real issue I have is that at not all lines are flipped the right way? some lines already start at a point feature but some don't. Is there anything I can do to select the lines first that don't have their starting point at a feature and flip only those?
