Hi Vince, Thanks for your help. The ArcDesktop (ArcCatalog) I was doing the upgrade with was 10.1. The SDE file was at 10.0. We did uninstall ArcSDE 10.0 after stopping the SDE services. We did not install ArcSDE 10.1. We are connecting to everything just fine. Thanks so much for your help! Janie

Vince, So I shouldn't install ArcSDE 10.1. I just make direct connections to my gbd from now on. That would support Flexviewer edit widget doing its updates? It also supports multiple desktop users doing updates to the same file at the same time in ArcMap? Thanks, Janie

Hi Vince, Thanks for answering. So I stop my ArcSDE Services. I uninstall 10.0 ArcSDE. I upgrade the geodatabases using my ArcCatalog 10.1 user interface. Then I install ArcSDE 10.1. I will need to recreate the ArcSDE service for each gdb. Then just create my new SDE connections? Correct? If we want to use SDE connections. Thanks, Janie

Preparing to upgrade a geodatabase in SQL Server - ArcSDE 10.1 Hi, According to the above link I stop the SDE service for all the geodatabases I am updating. Then I uninstall ArcSDE release 10.0 deleting the services for all gdbs when it prompts me. Then I do the upgrade to each of the geodatabases. Next I install the ArcSDE 10.1, if we are using sde connections. See Below what I copied from the link: 10.If you are using an ArcSDE service, do the following: a. Stop the ArcSDE service using the Windows Services interface. b.If you are upgrading to a new, full release of the ArcSDE application server (such as from 9.3.1 or 10 to 10.1), uninstall the old release of ArcSDE, and delete the old service when prompted to do so. Note: c.Obtain the ArcSDE Application Server installation from the Esri Customer Care portal. The geodatabase is now ready to be upgraded. You can use the Upgrade Geodatabase tool in ArcGIS for Desktop or a Python script run on the ArcGIS client computer. If you use an ArcSDE service for connections, install the ArcSDE application server after you upgrade your geodatabase. My question is the ArcSDE install talks about creating OR enabling Enterprise Geodatabase. These are existing 10.0 SQL 2008 R2 SDE Enterprise Geodatabases with lots of data. Do I enable them? I don't want to wipe out any tables with the userid id and the roles. Is this information just for new installs and NOT upgrades? What do you think? Thanks, Janie

Hi Derek, This article is the best I have read on getting the overall picture of how all the ArcGIS platform components fit together. This is definitely a must read. Thanks for suggesting it to me! Janie

Maybe someone can comment on this.... Anyone figured out a way to "hide" your services from the world while at the same time exposing them and all of the functionality through the Flex viewer? It seems silly that we would have to keep that directory open to the world just to use the flex viewer. Thank you! Aaron Hi Aaron, Which version of ArcGIS Server are you on? In the 10.1 install of the web adaptor, you can leave the default blank on the option "Enable administrative access to your site through the web adaptor." I was under the impression this would hide the web services and they would be available to your flex viewer. I not sure of this however. You can check this out at the Web Adaptor install short video clip: http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2012/06/20/new-videos-walk-you-through-arcgis-10-1-for-server/ Check out the third video clip on installing the Web Adaptor. You might have to put :6080 after your server name in the URL you use in the flex viewer. I didn't use this option. So this was what I got the impression the video way saying. I have not tried this however! Good luck, Janie

Hi, I am in the process of upgrading my ArcSDE Enterprise Geodatabases in SQL Enterprise 2008R2 from 10.0 to 10.1. (I have already installed ArcGIS Server 10.1, Web Adaptor 10.1, and Desktop 10.1. They are working great.) It appears that I take backups first. Then upgrade each Geodatabase in Catalog 10.1. Will that be all I have to do? Or do I really have to uninstall ArcSDE 10.0 and install ArcSDE 10.1? Thanks, Janie

Hi Anne, You are welcome! Just a heads up, the Drive Directions widget (Route widget) was updated at the same time as the address locators. Here is the link to the new web service information in my 12-02-2013 post: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/26879-Google-Routing-Widget-for-the-Flexviewer?p=348205#post348205 I did learn I had to be on Flex Viewer 3.1 for the new widget to work. Hope this helps, Janie

Hi Anne, Here is another blog about the address locator services being combined into a new web service: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/98011-FlexViewer-3.0-or-older-Address-Locators-combined-into-new-web-service-on-12-31-2013 You might put a calendar event in your Outlook to remind you to check this list every few months. This lists gets updated regularly with what is being discontinued. Just put this link in your calendar reminder. http://downloads.esri.com/support/product%20life%20cycle/online_gis/ArcGISOnlineServ_PLC.pdf It looks like the Demographics layers are being discontinued next. There are replacement layers, if you look around here: http://www.arcgis.com/home/group.html?owner=esri&title=Demographics%20and%20Lifestyle Hope this helps! Janie

The new route widget in the above reply does not work in flex viewer 3.0 compiled version. I had to upgrade to flex viewer 3.1 compiled version. Now once the user enters the two addresses, it pops up a signon box. The user must sign in with a userid and password that is a member of an ArcGIS Online organizational subscription. Good Luck. Hi Jeff, I was not able to get the new atom feed to list correctly either using the FlexViewer 3.0 compiled version. I upgraded this FlexViewer to 3.1 and used the below source and now it works perfect! <source>http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/feed/atom/2.5/week</source> Hope this helps, Janie

I had troubles at first with the API key but after some tweaking it seems to work, maybe it was a delay or an issue with the internet cache. Anyways, has anyone had any issues going over the quotas? Mine is not set up for billing and I don't foresee ever even coming close to 25000 requests per day, but I'm not sure what is considered a request. Funny thing is I've tried to check the reports and so far it still says zero requests even though I am using the app. Anyone have any insight into this? Hi, I just got my Google API key setup. I put the api key in the StreetView widget config file. I tried moving the little man around within a location and only got 1 for the usage for the day. Each time I changed complete locations from the last area, I received one more usage count. When I missed the road and the man turned pale, it didn't increase the usage count. Here is what my count looks like after looking up 7 different locations successfully. This is working in FlexViewer 3.1 by just adding the API key. Maps API v3 # of requests Daily quota: 25k 28-day total: 7 Hope this helps! Janie

Be aware that the old routetasksolver web service is being retired on 12/31/2013. The North American and European route solvers will be gone after 12/31/2013 per: http://downloads.esri.com/support/product%20life%20cycle/online_gis/ArcGISOnlineServ_PLC.pdf Here is the new Route Solver: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=1feb41652c5c4bd2ba5c60df2b4ea2c4 Be aware: This service is available for users with an ArcGIS Online organizational subscription. To access this map service, you'll need to sign in with an account that is a member of an organizational subscription. Heads up! Janie

FlexViewer 3.0 or older Address Locators combined into new web service as of 12/31/2013. The old address locator web services go away on 12/31/2013 per this http://downloads.esri.com/support/product%20life%20cycle/online_gis/ArcGISOnlineServ_PLC.pdf So you will need to change the Flex Viewer Locate widget's config xml from: <locator>http://tasks.arcgis.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/WorldLocator/GeocodeServer</locator> To This: <locator>http://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World/GeocodeServer</locator> To read about the new service go here: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=305f2e55e67f4389bef269669fc2e284 Notice the major difference in the GeoSearch versus the Batch GeoCoding. I hope this helps someone not have a surprise on January 1, 2014. Regards, Janie
