Is anyone having trouble viewing the map gallery in IE 9? I've been playing with it on our internal network so I don't have a URL to share, unfortunately. I have been working with it in Firefox and Chrome without issue but decided to check in IE. The map will not load - the circle just spins and spins. Thanks. PS: Apparently, I can't see any of my maps at all on Arcgis.com with the viewer in IE 9 but I CAN see ESRI sample maps there. Strange. Thoughts? That's odd. Do you think you could email me the URL or the web map ID that is having a problem? Maybe I can help out. Esri_webmap@esri.com Thanks

I have two questions regarding the functionality of users viewing the template. Is there an option to make the full screen view available in the Carousel View or is this only possible in the simple map viewer through map.htm? Also, I am having trouble with layer descriptions appearing in the legend tab of map.htm. These layer descriptions display in the Carousel view, but not in the simple map viewer when a user clicks on a map from index.htm. (With the addition of descriptions appearing in the legend of map.htm will these changes be affected in the full screen view? Also, will users be able to toggle layers on/off in the full screen view? I followed code in response to cstevens5802's post.) Also, running into errors displaying web maps that use Bing Maps base layers. I registered for a Bing Maps key and inserted this into the config.js file. Is there more to editing the config.js file than simply copy/pasting Bing Maps key between the quotes? Designing the template to display/grade student's university lab assignments. I am encouraging the students to design purpose driven web maps with quality appeal to client-side viewing. Thanks for any help you are able to provide. URL is maps.UNOGIS I figured out how to get those legend items showing in the right column. Navigate to global.css and remove the following code. It might be easiest to search for it. #legendMenu .esriLegendServiceLabel {
display:none;
} Let me know if that works for you. I'll have it in the next update. Thanks

OK cool, thanks. Also, how do you configure Explorer Online to open in a new window when you click on the thumbnails so the original tab (index.html) stays open? If you look in "/scripts/home/local.js" on line 101 you should see where it builds the thumbnail. If you change the anchor tag to have target="_blank" like so, it should do that for you. html += '<li class="item ' + itemClass + '"><a target="_blank" title="' + data.results.snippet + '" href="' + itemURL + '"><img src="' + obj.arcgispath + obj.imagepath + data.results.id + obj.imagepath2 + data.results.thumbnail + '" width="200" height="133"><span>' + itemTitle + '</span></a></li>'; <a target="_blank"

The problem could be that there isn't an image icon on the group description page (USGS NY Water Science Center). Try editing the group and adding an image next to the title of the group. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/823/noimage.png/ Let me know if that works.

I'll look into why those layers aren't displaying for you. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll hopefully have a fix for that soon. Yes, pasting the Bing Maps key in the config is all you need to do to use Bing Maps. Is it not working for you?

I can't seem to figure out how to resize the footer elements. I need to bring our logo and that little border line more to the left and closer the the "About..." description. You should be able to change these by changing the grid_6 and grid_3 classes in the HTML file to adjust the size. You can get rid of the empty grid_3 and that gives you some more room to play with. Try making the grid_3 into a grid_4 and see if that helps. I'ts using the 960.gs grid system.

The initial map will not load in the carosel view. The wheel just keeps spinning.... Hi xander, These may not be displaying because they are external applications and not web maps or the map uses a bing basemap and the bing key has not been set in the config. Do you have a URL I can inspect? Thanks

Sweet, it works great thanks. I wasn't putting http:// in front, but it works now. Awesome. In 1.4 there will be a config option to choose simple viewer, arcgis.com viewer or arcgis explorer viewer.

This sends it to the arcgis.com viewer, can you send it directly to Explorer Online? Also how do you change the url for your logo so that it goes to our homepage? Sorry but I am not a developer either. Yep. You should be able to change it to use ArcGIS explorer. Instead of using the previous URL, use this one. Instead of map.html?webmap= Use http://explorer.arcgis.com/?open= If you open index.html or map.html and scroll to the bottom. you can change the code below to use your website link. The HREF attribute of the <a> anchor tag. <div class="logoDiv footBorder"><a title="Your Logo" href="http://yourwebsite.com" class="hostedBy"></a><a href="mailto:email@yourorg">email@yourorg</a></div> Hope that helps. Let me know if you get it working.

Hello, I would like to remove the footer and the yourLogo image. Does anyone know what file needs to be edited? Thanks, JP Hi jprado, Yes. If you open up index.html in a text editor you should be able to find the HTML at the bottom that if removed, will remove the footer and logo.

The public map gallery template is very nice - several departments at the City of Albuquerque are highly interested in using it to share maps with the public. However, there is a need to allow users to turn on and off layers. This can be done now - sort of. You have to click on About, then Map Contents, then Open, then Open in ArcGIS.com Viewer, then click an unlabeled button. Hard for the average citizen. It would be much more useful and simple to just enable turning on and off layers in the Legend section of the map in the gallery. Thanks, Mike Rock GIS Analyst City of Albuquerque Hi Mike, That's a great suggestion. I'll see if I can get that into the next version of the template. There will also be an option to use the ArcGIS viewer instead of the simple map viewer. Thanks for your feedback!

We would like to use arcgis explorer online instead of the simple viewer. Is this possible and if so how do I configure this? Yes, this is possible and will be a config option in the next release. Currently, you'll have to go into "/scripts/home/local.js" and search for "map.html" and change that to "http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html". Thanks

Thank you very much, this proved to be of great help to us. I have one question though, I customized the application to fit out need. Here is the link to it. http://cityview.baltimorecity.gov/maps/ Everything looks alright on all browsers but on IE. On IE the legend tab turns out blue. I checked out the css and looks alright esp. when I have no issues with other browsers. Can you please tell me what needs to be done to display it right on IE. Thanks a lot. Hi oppudel, I think the display issues are related to a lot of colors having double number signs for colors. I see a lot of "##000000" wich should be "#000000" and it's probably ignoring the colors in some browsers and not others. If you need to change the CSS gradient colors the following site is a great tool for doing so. http://www.colorzilla.com/gradient-editor/ Hope that helps.

Any chance we will get the ability to consume private maps, layers and groups through the Public Maps Gallery Template? Many organizations have infrastructure data that can't be shared with the general public and needs to be somewhat secure - utilities, public safety layers, etc. This is the one shortcomings I see with the new Public Maps Gallery Template capabilities - we need the ability to use this great tool, but restrict its view to specific users instead of enabling it for 'Everyone' and making the group 'public'. I want a specific group that I have set up to be able to use the gallery, but can't do this right now. Thanks! Thanks for your thoughts and ideas. The scope of the Public Maps Gallery Template is limited to publicly available maps. The functionality you suggest is appropriate for a future product under development that was announced as ArcGIS Online for Organizations at the 2011 User Conference. (This isn??t the final name.) ArcGIS for Organizations Beta invites will be sent to people participating in the ArcGIS 10.1 Beta in the next two months. That would be your opportunity to test the functionality and see if it meets your needs.
