Michael, On Windows 10, I get a fully enabled ArcMap session in about 20 seconds from launch. It may not be the issue for you, especially as you have checked a stand alone seat, but is there a firewall running on the license server? And, what port is the ArcGIS license pool responding at? I set mine up to still use TCP port 27004 for the odd 9.3.1 box still in service--but I always poke a hole in the license server firewall for 27000-27009. And on the clients I specify the server to be at 27004@FQDN (though by IP saves a DNS lookup). Without the open range to the FNP service default 27000-27009 range, there can be considerable latency while the FNP clients ping the server for service--but have to wait for time-out to expire when firewall blocks. If you can arrange with your sysadmin to kill the firewall on the license pool server you can get a feel for if firewall induced latency is the issue. Stuart

Also, please describe the Windows 10 installation. 32-bit or 64-bit, and if it was an "upgrade" migrating existing applications or a bare metal install and follow-on installation of applications?

Hi Russell, That particular CLSID is associated with MSXML4 SP2 install/uninstall--10.3.1 supposedly removed any requirement for its use in instantiating File GeoDataBase structures. However ArcGIS 10.2 was still dependent on it--and the conflict could remain there. A bit dated, but have a read of Esri's KB 28553 -- "Error 1935" Two suggestions. 1. Uninstall ArcGIS for Desktop and MSXML4 Since this was an upgrade attempt, now at this point you need to be aggressive about getting every thing Esri off of the system for another attempt. I'd suggest a uninstaller like CCleaner (run the tools mode and uninstall any Esri/ArcGIS items, followed by the registry mode), or the commercial Revo Uninstaller (you'll need the Pro if on 64-bit Windows, but a trial version should get you by) followed by a few runs of CCleaner's registry mode cleanup. You'll also need to use the same CCleaner or Revo Uninstaller (or even Windows native "appwiz.cpl" rum from Start button) to remove the rather unnecessary MSXML4 SP2 or SP3 variant from your system. At ArcGIS 10.3.1 you no longer need it. 2. Set Windows Registry to its maximum size Since you are on a Windows 7 system, have a read of Esri KB 37477, --you can run the SFC /checknow, or not --basically here we assume memory management is not correct in Windows 7, and expand the size the Window Registry proactively. Unfortunately for this you will need run a regedit.exe session and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control where you'll create a new DWORD (32-bit) value name RegistrySizeLimit (or edit it if it already exists). Either way you'll be setting the HEX value to "ffffffff" without the quotes (or enter it as Decimal "4294967295"). And sorry, but you'll need to poke around in the Windows registry--anything with strings "Esri" and "ArcGIS" should probably go--you can search the registry with the Edit -> Find menu and repeat with the F3 key. You can do a quick search through first without deleting anything to get comfortable with the registry and get a sense of how much if anything got left behind. Just be cautious! The thing about editing the registry is that it happens immediately--and there is no "undo". Right panel are individual values, left panel are hive keys, either can be deleted with a single delete key. Best to make a full backup export of the entire registry when starting--and then a separate backup from a key you are going to edit. When you exit the session the registry is written back--changes are immediate. Post back if you get stuck. Stuart

Folks, Open a regedit session from run bar or a cmd window and navigate down into the HKCU hive... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\Desktop10.4\ArcMap\DockingPaneLayouts If you poke around in panestate the search window is assigned to one of the panes (I've seen it now as Pane-3, Pane-4, or Pane-5 when rebuilt on different systems) where you can edit it to adjust placement (this is not documented so trial and error on some of the criteria). But, probably simplest to just delete the entire DockingPaneLayouts Key and allow it to rebuild with defaults. This is part of the user profile, and the HKCU is per user on a system, each user will pick-up ArcGIS for Desktop defaults on initial launch--or if the defaults have been removed. And this should get your Search pane back in service--alternative is to delete the whole user profile, i.e. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI it will rebuild with defaults on next launch. Stuart p.s. You close the regedit session to apply changes (as always be aware that any changes are immediate and irrevocable--so please be careful, maybe dump the registry as a backup before starting).

Next question, we have a geoprocessing tool running on one of the 10.2.2 desktops, while I understand I cannot publish a geoprocessing tool from 10.2.2 to 10.4, will the one CURRENTLY on that desktop, that is has already been published run correctly? I am probably not asking this correctly as I a new to all of this, but long story short, we are integrating Infor EAM with GIS and it has a EAM/GIS Extension published as a service, that is only known to work on 10.2.2 so far. But I am certain that is only the Desktop version. Yes on the first question, the 10.4 License Server will support the 10.2.2 seats. As to the second, the geoprocessing tool will continue to run on 10.2.2 desktops. It may or may not need to be updated to run on the 10.4 desktops as you deploy.

Paul Huffman wrote: Thanks. I changed the Vendor Port to 1234, now I have a local license, but not client. So I guess I need to make an exception in Windows Firewall for 1234. Is that inbound or outbound? I just used Action>New Rule>Port>Specified local ports>1234>Allow the Connection>Applied to all, and it works for a client machine. Is that too much permission? The exception would be on the Server's firewall, incoming either open the port (but set the allowed subnets) or for the arcgis.exe program (again setting the allowed subnets). Stuart

Hello Oliver, Is the server a system hosting the ArcGIS License Server Administrator, and issue is not just to deauthorize a Single Use seat from running ArcGIS Administrator -> Support Operations? Are the licenses to be deauthorized Single Seat licenses managed from the server, or are they concurrent seats? The Error 7466 issue can occur with either Single Use seats or Concurrent use seats as the license deauthorization uses the same mechanism on Esri's FlexNet Publisher based licensing servers. Unfortunately this is something that you can not resolve without Esri's assistance, you will need to contact an Esri Customer Service Representative, or your Esri distributor to assist with "deauthorizing and rearming" of your set of authorization numbers. The details of how Esri generates the Error 7466 are a little unclear, but please review Esri KB 38753 - 7466: Deauthorization of the license is denied because max number of returns is exceeded, and also Esri KB 40627 - Selectively deauthorize licenses in ArcGIS License Server Administrator And, if you reuse the same server (or reauthorize a Single Use seat) you would have to manually clear the FlexNet Publisher Trusted Storage cache -- that is explained in KB 40611 - Clear or delete trusted storage for concurrent-use and single-use licenses Stuart

The server should have a static IP, if set via DHCP as this seems to have been, you need to reserve its IP by MAC--but you're really hosed if the VM is spinning up virtual MAC. Then reset your DNS service, and flush the DNS cache. Should get back to reasonable IP/MAC relationship. Need to do that so you can deal with FlexNet Publisher Trusted Storage authorizations. Fun isn't it.

Justin Kraemer You can run this to ground yourself if you have the patience using MS Sysinternals Process Explorer. Steps are here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14552348/runtime-error-r6034-in-embedded-python-application/14680947#14680947 It will help you identify the culprit, and you don't necessarily need to perform the batch script bypass. But we'd like to know what you dig out. But the whole thread on SE is worth a read. Stuart

Rob, Completely understand the perception that Esri should support their product better. But reality is that Esri decided quite some time ago that native Unix/Linux and OS X were not their ArcGIS for Desktop market. They'll support Apple hardware with a Bootcamp driver pack and native Windows instance, but they have NO interest (nor obligation) in supporting Parallels or VMWare implemented guest OS. They've made that clear on many occasions. That leaves those of us who choose to run ArcGIS for Desktop in a guest OS VM, or have to support them, to our own means. I've got multiple faculty that torture me this way, and a slew of undergrad and grad students that find their way to my office. Fortunately with VMWare Academic program and Microsoft Dreamspark subscriptions I've gotten pretty good at keeping them functional on their Apple hardware. Personally, I probably would have done a backup or your VM to be able to roll back from the Windows 7 -> Windows 10 upgrade. Especially if the 10.3.1 -> 10.4 upgrade went cleanly and was functional before starting the OS migration. But that is just me. Point is you are so far beyond what Esri -- even Parallels-- would be willing to support, if tweaking the license authorizations does not work you're likely to have to rebuild the VM anyhow to get a stable ArcGIS for Desktop instance. Robert Stevens Running Arcgis and Business Analyst 10.4 on a MacBook Pro with parallels, Windows10 VM with 8G dedicated, having just upgraded windows from windows7 and at the same time 10.3.1 to 10.4 I first try to use Business Analyst tools for a new study. Strange, all the menu options are greyed out, and when I try to run a tool BA reports that I have no license available. Well, I had one in 10.3.1. ArcGIS Administrator reports that I have a single use permanent license for BA desktop. Hmm, you do realize that Esri does *NOT* support your installation configuration of ArcGIS installed to a Windows VM hosted on OS X via Parallels (or Fusion)--just saying. Also, you have a bunch of moving pieces in play... VM Windows 7 -> Windows 10 was that the Microsoft "Upgrade" install or did you do a clean installation? And of course in going from ArcGIS 10.3.1 -> 10.4--was that done as an upgrade on the upgraded VM? I hope you are not surprised to be having issues in what was already a fragile installation. Personally, at this point I'd try to resolve the licensing issues first. Probably easiest to deauthorize it all, but at a minimum the Business Analyst extension and its Data license. Then verify that you have full ArcGIS for Desktop licensing (test the other Extensions), if need be (actually test the toolboxes) deauthorize those as well. And then re-perform the authorization. Otherwise, your best bet would be to backup your data, deauthorize ArcGIS (and any other licensed applications), and trash the VM (your Windows license is now upgraded with Microsoft, so you should not have too many issues reinstalling the VM to the same Parallels host). Then you can start with a clean VM and do a clean installation. That should get you functional again, but will take a couple of days. Stuart

Ben, * We'll assume you have the ArcGIS Administrator -> Desktop panel radio buttons pointing to the correct flavor of concurrent ArcGIS as supported by your license pool, e.g. Basic (ArcView), Standard (ArcEditor), Advanced (ArcInfo). And that the License Manager field is populated with at least the FQDN for the license server, but better the port@FQDN On the client Is the FQDN resolving to IPv4 or IPv6 DNS? Any improvement if you disable the IPv6 service on the VM client? Done with regedit in the: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP6\Parameters key by setting a DisabledComponents DWORD (32-bit) value. And assigning a hex value "ff". This will force the client to work across IPv4 connections and should make the license exchanges with the server behave. Simple to revert to allowing full IPv6 by deleting the new key. Stuart
