Lindsey, Do you know whether your ArcGIS for Desktop license is a Single Use seat or is actually a Concurrent/Floating license pool seat? Only the later requires services of the ArcGIS License Manager. Your seat is presently set to be a concurrent use license seat--and the error -96, is simply showing that no license server has been identified or can be found. If you instead should authorize and use a Single Use license--the changes are made from the ArcGIS Administrator -> Desktop panel. Make a selection of the correct radio button for the type of license you have. The 90-day trials would be Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use. The License Manager is not needed and if installed can be uninstalled. Post back if that is not clear. Stuart

This is a Surface Pro running Windows 8.1? Not RT, which does not run Widnows desktop programs. If so, yes. But you will need to install .NET 3.5 sp1 before your installation. After that you should have no problems running ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2.x /10.3 with Windows 8.1 on a Surface Pro. Stuart

Christine Dartiguenave, *, Thanks! The rebuilt Installer runs with a clean log. Cursory review of ArcHydro Toolbar ArcMap 10.3, no issues. Compiled help is still tagged as 10.2 - (Sep 2014), any substantive changes we should be aware of? Stuart

Tom colson, *, First thing I looked for when reviewing with Orca but could not find it. If you spot the stanza to edit, post it and I'll give it a go. Otherwise we'll need to wait for the Water Resources group to post revised installer. Christine Dartiguenave and comment? Stuart

Finally got around to checking, and the 10.2.0.85 msi package installer fails its PreInstall checks with this error: Likely a simple adjustment in the installer, but it will need to be rebuilt for 10.3 Stuart

taner koka Esri uses Flexera's FlexNet Publisher to license the program and extensions. Each activated "fulfillment" allowing use of the program or one of the extensions is recorded into FlexNet Publisher's encrypted TrustedStorage. External to the ArcGIS development framework--you can review the Windows registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ESRI\License10.2 and determine a valid installation and what type--float (Concurrent) or Fixed (SingleUse). And then look in the system's C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\ folder for presence of an encrypted license repository for ArcGIS--titled ARCGIS_xxxxxxxx_tsf.data that holds licensing for either concurrent or single use seats. Beyond that, the specifics are only exposed to Esri utilities built with FlexNet Publisher libraries. To programmatically do this you need ArcObjects, through 10.1, it used to be ILicenseInformation in conjunction with AoInitialize or IAoInitialize with C++ or .NET but I am not sure where those functions have gotten to at 10.2 or now 10.3 release. Or if there is a Python link to the API. Moving this thread over to the ArcObject SDK place in development, someone there will be more up to date. Stuart

Bishwa, Your HEC RAS, or HEC HMS if installed, can remain. But the HEC GeoRAS preprocessor (and other Esri ApFramework based utilities, like ArcHydro Tools) will need to be uninstalled prior to the ArcGIS for Desktop install. It will then be replaced with a current build. Doing it this way (removal of everything ArcGIS related) prevents issues during installation and setup. Stuart

Bshihwa, I had no issues moving systems to Desktop 10.2.2 and current HEC GeoRAS builds, But, you would have fewer issues if you completely remove HEC GeoRAS, along with any other extensions to ArcGIS for Desktop, followed by a full uninstall of ArcGIS for Desktop, and finally clear your per-user profile and the Windows registry. E.g. get to a point where there is no Esri product on your system. And only then start with a clean ArcGIS for Desktop installation. Stuart

@Mikko, Not sure it is root of your issue, but it is still a better bet to use the Esri Water Resources Group MFT (sftp) community repository for the current installers rather than the HEC downloads which tend to be un-patched. The USACE HEC -- project site is currently posting an older HEC GeoRAS build, 10.2.0.2 with ApFramework 10.2.0.7, built 2013-12-20 The Esri MFT site currently posts HEC GeoRAS build 10.2.0.10 with ApFramework 10.2.0.16, built 2014-06-05 Review the readme.doc file posted to the MFT is usually will describe issues addressed with patches and dates released--although it looks a little out of date at the moment ( Christine Dartiguenave ?). Anyhow, you'll need to pay attention to the ApFramework if you have other Water Resource Group projects like ArcHydro installed. Stuart

Claudia, Hmmm, so you made a note of the EVA123456789 assigned to you when signing up for the trial. Or you should have received the code in an email to valid email account you associated with your Esri user account, but that has been hit or miss for folks. Then when you enter that exact EVA code, while running the authorization wizard--from ArcGIS Administrator --> Desktop with radio button selecting a Single Use, Advanced (ArcInfo) seat-- if you select the "authorize now via the internet", your system should exchnage TLS (https) packets with Esri Redlands servers. You'll need to be connected to the internet and not have any firewall blocking https packetsTCP port 443. Might need to disable your firewall or allow a firewall exception for--C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArcGIS\bin\SoftwareAuthorization.exe An anti-virus could be interfering, Avast and AVG have had problems here for folks. If all good, about 15 "exchanges" one for each component being authorized/activated. At the end of that exchange you should see an authorization completion notice. Stuart

Claudia Caceres Any reason you chose to use the off-line license via email rather than on-line authorization? It will work, but is one extra layer of complexity in getting the Single Use trial license authorized. Suggest you rerun and use the "authorize now via the internet" option of the Authorization Wizard (run from the Windows Start menu: ArcGIS Administrator --> Desktop --> Authorize Now... button). Instructions are in this link: Authorizing ArcGIS Desktop -- follow the single use section not the concurrent use section, the License Manager should not be installed for Single Use trial software. Post back if still stuck, or that is unclear. Stuart
