I have seen similar issues with PDFs exported from Pro and the World Hillshade layer set to transparent (about 80%). I actually use it in combination with the Multidirection Hillshade (also set to transparent). To be honest, I am not sure if this is actually an issue with the way ESRI writes these PDFs with the raster basemaps and transparency from Pro, or a bug in Adobe Reader that Adobe should fix... The issue seems to "shift" when I scroll and pan through the map in Adobe Reader. An area that does not look good at one point, may look good later on when I pan back. The quadcore Core i7 laptop I am viewing them on has the latest NVidia drivers and a dedicated graphics card with 4GB DDR5 RAM, so I don't think it is an issue with an under resourced laptop.

I think the closest to your "simple sheet" with "recommended network settings for working with file geodatabases in a network environment" is ESRI's System Design Strategies Wiki pages. Unfortunately, although still partially maintained and updated with e.g. recent 2019 benchmarks, ESRI still does not directly or clearly link to it: http://wiki.gis.com/wiki/index.php/System_Design_Strategies IMHO, they should put up a permanent "Recommended Content" link to the above System Design Strategies from e.g. the main Support page...: https://support.esri.com/en/ It is listed under "Other Resources" as "wiki.GIS.com" but that is totally unhelpful in realizing how valuable this content is...

This to me sounds a bug, not an Idea. I think you should report this to ESRI Support. The name of the option "Forced split" and also the Help here: Stack labels—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop "If Forced split is checked, a split always happens at the character, and stacking always occurs." are quite clear: forced split should always result in a split. If it doesn't, it is likely a bug in Maplex.

Really nice "detective work" and read up about the Spilhaus projection in that story map describing the search for the reconstruction of it. And beatiful maps by John Nelson.

Currently, it appears that spatial bookmarks in ArcMap and Pro as created with the "Bookmarks" options, do not store the Coordinate System and Transformation of the Data Frame in ArcMap, or Map in Pro. As a consequence, when switching the map to another coordinate system, and subsequently selecting a bookmark to return to a previously visited extent, the zooming or panning will not reflect the actual extent and Coordinate System of the originally bookmarked location. You need to manually reset the Coordinate System to be able to re-visit the exact same extent as stored with the bookmark. It would be really desirable to see the spatial bookmarks store the Coordinate System and Transformation as well, so that zoom or pan option truly return you to the exact extent of a region bookmarked by automatically resetting the Coordinate System and Transformation of the Data Frame or Map in Pro, instead of taking you to a rough approximate location of the stored bookmark. This is especially useful for accurate multiscale map documents, where the user may have different layers for different scale ranges in a single map, that may be best viewed in specific coordinate systems tailored to visibility scale range of the layers (e.g. Continental / Country level). Related to this Idea although not specifically mentioning Coordinate Systems: Smarter Bookmarks - SmartMarks Bookmarks enforce data frame rotation

I don't know your requirements, but you are aware that you can access PostgreSQL/PostGIS spatial databases without enabling them as an ESRI Enterprise Geodatabase? Unless you have specific needs for an ESRI Enterprise Geodatabase due to ArcGIS editing workflows, need for advanced geodatabase data types, relationship classes etc, you may be able to simply connect to the spatial database using ArcGIS Query Layers and not enable an Enterprise Geodatabase. You just need to run the Add Incrementing ID Field tool against any spatial table in the PostGreSQL/PostGIS database if there is no suitable unique ID field for each record in the table. You will then be able to add a Query Layer including spatial columns to ArcGIS. If your requirements are just "read-only" access of PostGIS data maintained by another software package, this setup may suffice. I have run such a setup against large PostGIS databases with great success.

Just a generic answer, but I always think linking to the ESRI maintained System Design Strategies wiki pages is useful for threads like these, due to the rich content of those pages.

This sounds like you me not be embedding fonts in the resulting PDFs, and the PC you are reviewing the PDFs on, may not have the required fonts for the particular annotation you attempt to export. This would be especially possible if you use multiple font faces. Are you sure the "Embed Fonts" option is checked?

In my experience, it can also horribly slow down drawing performance in ArcMap in some cases. I don't know if Pro or AGOL handle that aspect better, but for ArcMap, it can certainly create problems if "Scale symbols" is active for a layer.

Kory Kramer, any updates to this issue regarding a "versioned" Help for ArcGIS Pro? Clearly, based also on other users' responses here in the thread, there is a need for this, and ESRI always supported this for ArcMap.

Actually, adding the "Note" text mentioned on the Recalculate Feature Class Extent—Help | ArcGIS Desktop Help page thatJoe Borgione pointed out and that mentions the difference between domains and extents, to the Spatial Reference Help page, would already be a big win.

Melita Kennedy schreef: It's pulling the spatial reference xy domain which is square. The lower left / minimum values are good, but the max values may be blown out to either make the extent square or to make the xy resolution value a reasonable number. Melita Kennedy, Could these specific traits of the "domain" properties of a Spatial Reference be better documented on the Help page of the Spatial Reference? I was running into a similar issue, where calling: spatialRefDomain = spatialRef.domain arcpy.AddMessage("spatialRefDomain: " + spatialRefDomain) to inspect the extent's values, resulted in rather un-expected max values (spatialRefDomain: -20037700 -30241100 900699887774,099 900689684374,099), as I didn't realize these were related to the XY resolution of the dataset. The first impression of the "domains" is that they represent something like the "projection horizon" you mentioned, but your explanation makes clear they are something entirely different. I think the difference must be cleared up in the Help page of the Spatial Reference as well by adding extra documentation. The current page is rather minimal in explanations (although it is comprehensive in mentioning all properties). It probably could use some graphics as well to give some visual impression of these properties.

I now noticed that the ArcPy Classes Help pages, already provide hyperlinks for complex data types. All the more reason to add them to Geoprocessing tool's Syntax sections as well!
