With the "gdb" file missing ArcGIS will see the file geodatabase directory as a folder. Given the files you listed, the file geodatabase is non-recoverable. Where are processes run on the file geodatabase after you last accessed it successfully? Was a backup restored?

Is there an easy pre-built ODBC driver (or whatever?) that I can install on my machine so that Access or Excel can directly read tables frorm a FGDB? Forgive my ignorance if this is a silly question... There is no pre-built ODBC driver for the File Geodatabase. It would be possible to write one using the API.

Annotation is not supported by the File Geodatabase API. The API only supports feature classes (point, multipoint, line, polygon and multipatch) and tables.

I was able to get and set the documentation for both the basis2 and bodem5000 datasets using the current build of the API. This using table.GetDocumentation and table.SetDocumentation. We should be posting final soon.

Can you provide details of your work flow? Simply editing and compacting a file geodatabase does not do this. We would like to track down the problem and fix it. We would appreciate any details that you can provide. Is the data on a network drive? What version of windows? What type of edits you performed? No detail is too small.

While raster data will not be supported for this release of the API, you should be able to open the table and use SetDocumentation. I will investigate this and get back to you .

We are working on a Linux 64-bit release of the File Geodatabase API. It will not release with the 1.0 release of the API, but as a part of a follow on release later this year.
